Do you drink alcohol?

If not, why not?
Is it a bad thing to drink alcohol? Is it because you dislike the taste, or the effect? What would your opinion be on someone who gets drunk every night?

If so, why?
Because you like the taste, because you want to experience the effects? What's your opinion on people that refuse to drink alcohol at all? How often do you drink?

To those that do drink alcohol, do you only do so in the company of others as a social thing, or do you usually drink alone?

What's your opinion on the laws about alcohol? Do you think they're too strict, too lax?

General alcohol thread; you can answer my questions, or ignore them and you can make your own points. It's up to you.

Eh, I've had a drink every now and then (Read: I drink small quantities roughly twice a year), and it's... alright. I really can't see the point, except for maybe getting a huge headache after a few glasses of gin and tonic.

And vodka? That crap just buuuuuurns.

But... I can see nothing wrong with being a social drinker, in moderation.

No I don't drink alcohol. I'm underage, but even if I was the legal age I'd choose not to.

Don't get me wrong, a glass of wine every now and then is perfectly fine, and in some studies healthy, but I've always viewed alcohol as a dangerous drug. If you choose to drink you should know the repercussions, and in today's society most people do. But it's those select few that, like all other drugs, abuse alcohol.

I'm not up to date with any drinking laws except the age limit, but by the looks of it, it's a bit lax. I hear about and see high schoolers drinking all the time. And although 1 drink is probably not going to kill you, it can lead to abuse.

Do you drink alcohol?
Yes

If so, why?
Simply put because I can. I see it as any other beverage I want to see how it tastes so I try it.

What's your opinion on people that refuse to drink alcohol at all?

More power to them, alcohol is just another beverage out there and if they don't want to drink it then so be it. Some people just don't like it or their religion does not allow for consumption of alcohol.

How often do you drink?

Since I became 21(legal drinking age in the U.S.) in September I have only drank alcohol a handful of times. I have probably had less then 3 cups/glasses altogether in since then.

To those that do drink alcohol, do you only do so in the company of others as a social thing, or do you usually drink alone?

I usually drink with the company of others, since I have been 21 I had some shots of Bacardi Vanilla or whatever flavor at work with my fellow co-workers. Then when I was on vacation with my parents I had some samples of wine and sips of Guinness Beer on vacation. So far I have yet to drink alone.

What's your opinion on the laws about alcohol? Do you think they're too strict, too lax?
I don't really think it is strict, it is better then having the 18th Amendment, which prohibits consumption of alcohol from any age group. Yes there is a lot of under aged drinkers, but is lowering the age really going to be beneficial anyways? Don't quote me on this but from what I heard the average humans brain is not fully developed until the earlier to mid 20s, so drinking alcohol would be detrimental to brain development.

Do you drink alcohol?
of course not!

If not, why not?
I'm underage, It tastes bad, and it may eventually kill you. Or hurt you permanently.
Is it a bad thing to drink alcohol?
Is it because you dislike the taste, or the effect? What would your opinion be on someone who gets drunk every night?
for me, yes. For the above reasons. If someone would get drunk every night, I would think they where an idiot, a fool and a lot of things I'm not going to list because it would involve swears. I can't use swears.

Do you drink alcohol?

Hell to the no.

If not, why not?

Because it's disgusting, and is a vile habit-forming substance.

Is it a bad thing to drink alcohol?

Sure, why not... there's a reason alcoholics exist, y'know.

Is it because you dislike the taste, or the effect?

Both.

What would your opinion be on someone who gets drunk every night?

They deserve to die with a black liver. The world doesn't need any brain-dead idiots. If you're butt-hurt about life, then try something better than being dependent on a drug, yeah?

What's your opinion on the laws about alcohol? Do you think they're too strict, too lax?

I don't care about laws, I care about self-control and peer pressure. I'm tired of seeing all these sheep-like teenagers drinking at parties.

What about someone who drinks alone as an escape from all their problems, in a desperate attempt to feel some sort of elevation from their constantly present negative/depressed mood?

That is no justification. I feel like **** all the time, but do you see me drinking my sorrows away?
People need help, but if they cannot get better no matter what, then it's their problem for starting anyways.

Starting what... depression? It's not a choice.
For some people they're just desperate for anything to improve the way they feel.

I drink occasionally on special occasions, but nothing strong; usually just wine or something along those lines. I've tried a few alcoholic drinks, but I don't not drink them out of principle, just the taste.
I only really drink when my parents do and since my Dad is sober (due to being diabetic) and my Mum only drinks on special occasions, I just do it at Xmas or whatever.

Is drinking bad?
Yes, in large quantities. A pint of beer or glass of wine every now and then does no harm.

Your opinion is possibly the most sheltered thing I've seen in a long time when it comes to alcohol. I personally drink to take the edge off when my sorrows are effecting me negatively. I don't always turn to drink in this manner, but it helps on the occasion.

I don't condone people drinking their sorrows away, but you're clearly looking at this from one perspective and one only here; those who get addicted or who rely on alcohol. If someone becomes reliant on it and ends up feeling "like **** all the time", then it's their morality which has the issue, not alcohol.

Then they should seek counseling or help from others, instead of drowning themselves in alcohol. I honestly have little sympathy for those go out and kill someone while intoxicated. They may have problems, but if it causes harm to somebody else then that is were I have a problem with them getting drunk all the time. Do they not have Alcoholics Anonymous or or the Beddy Ford Clinic? I see little excuses to get drunk constantly.

Again, if something like this happens, alcohol is not the problem, it's the peron behind it. Alcohol is merely a mask. If it was something that constituted murder, then it would be illegal. The people who write the constitution are well aware of what I've just stated.

You can't say that alcohol is the cause of murder and then the end has been justified by the means. The human person, is the reason alcohol is abused.

I meant in it in the terms of drunk driving. Not actually going out and committing a murder, which most likely would be premeditated so alcohol or other drugs wouldn't be so much to blame in a situation like that.

But not everyone drinks and drives, and not everyone gets violent when drunk. Some people drink in pure solitude, doing no harm to others, and only doing so because they feel like they have no other option. They may have trust issues which stops them getting counselling.
I've had counselling myself before, and I can tell you that it didn't help me at all.

Which is why I have little sympathy for those who drink and drive. Not people that consume it on a daily basis and cause no harm to others outside them self. Does not drinking compound the problem? Will it help toward curing depression or sadness? If you don't trust counselors can you not turn to your family or friends for help?

Do you drink alcohol?

Umm, difficult question surprisingly. When I'm invited to parties mother usually lets me take a few cans of cider there, and recently as it is coming up to Christmas, I tend to drink more alcohol. I don't think it's a bad thing, it's just something to mellow you out. One of my friends a year older than me goes to a party almost every week, and at least drinks 4 can's of 5% alcohol per night. And he's fifteen D: I just don't see the point of going out and getting bladdered every weekend because it's "fun". I go to parties to socialise with friends and have fun, drinking is just included for me.

No, because I'm underage, and I don't trust myself enough to put myself under the influence of anything that can change my state of consciousness in any way. Unless, of course, it's passing me out. lol

Do you drink alcohol?
I have some occasional wine every once in a while, but I'm not a heavy drinker at all.

If so, why?
I just feel like it and there's not much more to answer with the question honestly.

To those that do drink alcohol, do you only do so in the company of others as a social thing, or do you usually drink alone?

Well it's usually just my self in all, I wouldn't want company by me when I am drinking.

How often do you drink?
I started to have some just this year, but I haven't had it more than five times if you want to know.

What's your opinion on the laws about alcohol? Do you think they're too strict, too lax?
Well, I don't think anyone really follows the drinking age if they are a teenager(if they consume it), and I don't see a problem with it as long as you don't abuse it in my opinion. I'm not saying everyone drinks, it's just stating some facts from my thoughts. The laws are not really strict though.

Do you drink alcohol?
No.

If not, why not?
Not legal, not interested.

Is it a bad thing to drink alcohol?
Not bad unless it consumes your life. I'm not going to get into the depression discussion.

Is it because you dislike the taste, or the effect?
The smell turns me off, I'm afraid of the effects, and like I said, I'm just not interested.

What would your opinion be on someone who gets drunk every night?
They probably need a new hobby if it's every night.

Do you drink alcohol?
No, I don't.

If not, why not?
Because of I being underage, and seriously, I don't want to be sick or anything of the sort.

Is it a bad thing to drink alcohol?
I wonder what you think... In my opinion, yes, it sort of is in its own way.

Is it because you dislike the taste, or the effect?
The effect... I don't want that happening to me.

What would your opinion be on someone who gets drunk every night?
Get a life, hobby, etc., that avoids drinking alcohol.

No, underage.

If not, why not?

Underaged, need to be 18. When I am 18 I will drink. I have had sips off my parents on very small occasions and it tastes nice most of the time :)

Is it a bad thing to drink alcohol?

No.

Is it because you dislike the taste, or the effect?

umm. I hate the smell. Never had the 'effect' obviously.

Yes.

Because you like the taste, because you want to experience the effects? How often do you drink?

It's mostly a taste thing, these days. Rarely do I drink enough to get drunk, and honestly I like to keep it that way. But sometimes it's nice to kick back and have a nice-tasting drink, you know? I'd say I drink maybe two, three times a month since I've turned 21, even less now that there's nothing in the house. It's not something I usually purchase, and not something I intend to, either.

What's your opinion on people that refuse to drink alcohol at all?
More power to them. I actually admire them for it. It's kind of hard to explain why. x_x;

To those that do drink alcohol, do you only do so in the company of others as a social thing, or do you usually drink alone?
Typically it's social. Even when I buy some girly-beer for the house, I typically wait to drink some with my roommate. I think I might've had two or three drinks alone. Again, I want to keep it that way.
