So let me ask this: would a party without alcohol LESS fun than a party WITH alcohol? What have we devolved to? Darwin must be shaking his head 6 feet underground.

Personally as I have said before, it all depends. Some people have trouble being social, (like me) and alcohol helps loosen the tongue. Yes, no one likes chaotic drunks, but from some responses I've seen here, a lot of people are basically saying, alcohol is a tool of the devil.

I could also play the card that 'Hey! Jesus turned water into wine once.'

I know some people have had bad history with friends and loved ones and alcohol, and I really do offer my sympathy, but that doesn't mean that's how it is with everyone else. Not every person with a bottle in their hand is going to raise hell and get himself or someone else killed.

I mean last night, I was depressed. I had a drink to help me forget some of that and to escape. That's what a lot of stuff on earth is for. EVERYONE....I am willing to bet.....will at one point at least taste alcohol, if not get drunk at least once. You just need to know when you've had enough, and how to control yourself and be responsible. If you're drinking, and feel it, then just stop drinking. It's that simple. Drink water (do not rush drinking water, as this could cause vomiting), and you won't have killer headaches later.

I'm sure I'm making a good few of you angry, and I apologize, but.....what else can I say? I mean, I'm seeing people who want alcohol banned! It's not gonna happen. Police drink, the president drinks, everyone at one point will take a drink as I said.

If you want to hear something ironic, marijuana isn't nearly as harmful for you as tobacco, or alcohol, and it's banned. We have one crazy government guys. (No, I'm not a pot-head.)

SamuraiMaster theres a better way to deal with depression then drowning it in alcohol. Once the buss is gone the depression will come back full force. You need to seriously think about talking to somebody you trust about this. Depression isn't something that you just push away, it is a HORRIBLE and serious disease (Not the word I was looking for but it works...I think).

Anyways, no matter how much I would like alcohol to be banned, its not going to be completely banned. Even if it was there would be some that would sneak it in, like those that sneak in drugs.

I guess I am a little bit bias since what my dad went through with alcohol... He was given no hope to recover from alcohol and plently judges had given up on him. Though today he is alcohol free, but I still know what he went through, not all of it because he won't tell us (his kids) all he went through.

I know it won't be banned but I hope that all you that do drink will be careful, I don't want anything to hapen to anybody.

When you got friends with you, depression DOES go away. I do remember saying I never drink alone. I'm not one to drown it all in alcohol. As I have said before, you just need responsibility. And yeah I'm still a little depressed, and got good reason to be (money sucks people), but yeah, we're careful.

And I know how serious depression is. I've been near the point in suicide, but ever since then, have learned to cope with much of life. The only reason I am depressed right now mostly is because there's a problem that has been introduced to me now, that I need to learn how to handle very soon. It's nothing Im gonna go to the suicide area again, but it's enough to say, I need to go with friends for a while now...

I will say I am worried my friends go over the hedge sometimes, because sometimes they will drink through the night, but I can't really do much to stop it, and to be honest, I think it's just a phase. They're not depressed, they're just having fun, and they're not raising hell. Yes, the day one of them dies due to alcohol consumption, I will probably put the alcohol away for a while, but....what else can I say?

As for your father, as I said above, I am sorry for those of you who have had loved ones go through alcoholic experiences that have almost taken, or taken them away, but sadly......it all falls into one category. Choice. I'm not saying at all that I feel no remorse for what he did, but I will kinda say 'it was his own fault.' Though I will say with complete honesty, I am glad to hear he is sober and doing fine. And if it helps, I will pray he continues to be in such way.

I mean, I have a friend, whose father continues to drink, though he has multiple times gone to rehab, and his body is....well starting to shut down in some areas. It is a very sad thing, and I pray for him and his father, because from what I've heard about his father, when he's sober, he's a really cool man. And I haven't heard from him in a while, but whenever I see him (last time I saw him was a couple months ago) I ask about his father, and he nods and says he's fine. Which means something's working...and I pray it continues working.

I may say there's nothing wrong with drinking as long as you're responsible, but I do not turn a blind eye to the horror it can become.

I never said you didn't have friends SamauriMaster and I'm glad you do have friends but friends can only do a little. Just having friends doesn't make Depression go away, it helps but doesn't make it go away completely. It'll still be there when your left all alone with just your thoughts.

And as for my father, I wasn't trying to get sympathy I was just stating that that may be the reason I'm alittle biast on this subject. That and another loved one dying while being drunk. I completely agree that it was his choice and its the choice of everybody that does drink. My father was able to overcome the addiction and he's now helping other addicts to become sober.

I'm very sorry to hear about your friend's dad. Rehab only helps those that want the help, if the person going into rehab doesn't want the help then rehab isn't going to help.

Whenver I see somebody drinking all I can think about is what could happen. Some don't seem to understand that alcohol isn't harmless. That one drink could get you addicted and before the person knows it they've already had two more glasses. I'm glad there are some out there that are responsible but some aren't. Though like I've said before banning alcohol all together would be almost impossible to enforce since the police have trouble enforcing the twenty-one and up rule as it is. And banning it completely would make a lot of people angry.

No I don't drink alcohol, firstly because I'm underage, but like Kelp, I don't think I would even if I was of age. I don't really see the point? I can have fun without alcohol at parties and it just means I actually remember the night.

I'm not saying I won't drink in the future, I probably will, I just don't really see the point now.
plus I'm sahh indie by not drinking when nearly every one my age I know does

I'm not sure we're completely understanding each other. But whatever.

My friends have their ways of making a good amount of my depression going away. And I know why you brought your father into it, I'm just being an over-sympathetic guy again (it's a habit).

As for my friends father, I don't know what his deal is. I keep hearing he wants help, but he keeps going back. I can only pray things turn out right. Yeah praying only does so much, but sometimes it helps just thinking you're not alone n this forsaken universe......

Yeah, I drink alcohol on occasion, usually when there's a party going on.
Sometimes I prefer only drinking a bit of it so I am pretty drunk but can still remember the night, but...

(Yeah, I'm underage. xD)

As for what, nothing beats rum + Coke. :] Beer is absolutely disgusting but I drank Four Loko before it was banned
Dude it's all about vodka now. That's the stuff.

I can drink. I just don't do it often. Twice a year, maybe. That's because I drink in parties and stuff where there is alcohol. But I'd be too lazy to search it by myself. And always with people.

I like rum, vodka, wine. Not close to liking everything. I haven't really "experienced the effects" more than twice, and I didn't dislike it (then again, I wasn't that bad either so maybe there's no point). It's just a taste thing.

About people who don't drink, it's okay. Sure, some are overreactive and think drinking a bit of anything will instantly turn you violent or outright make you addicted. To them, I say you try it (of course, with people you can trust in a safe place, with moderation) and see it's not that bad. If you don't like it, at least you can say that instead of guessing. On the other hand, I guess it's better to have a lot of people that think alcohol is bad than to have a lot of people that think alcohol is harmless.

About the laws, at least here, they're really relaxed. If you go to a shop, they'll sell you alcohol without any problem. You don't need to try really hard. (Mind you, the laws do say that they shouldn't sell underage people) But I've not seen a lot of cases where teens cause problems because of that. In fact, most are just being immature, or want to try it, and a lot end up not liking it anyway. Also, for those that do and could one day become bad people, it's not really the alcohol's fault.

Do you drink alcohol?
On a normal basis, no.

If not, why not?
I don't like to, I guess.

Is it a bad thing to drink alcohol? Is it because you dislike the taste, or the effect?
When no harm is done, it isn't a bad thing. As long as someone knows when to stop, and doesn't fall under the effects, it doesn't seem bad to me.
I never liked it much in terms of taste, and the effect scares me to a point where, when I do try it, I do so in my room. But again, that is so very rare.

What would your opinion be on someone who gets drunk every night? If so, why?
Opinion... It isn't a good thing, because losing consciousness is not anything I like, so I believe most people wouldn't like the same either.

Because you like the taste, because you want to experience the effects? How often do you drink?
I drink so rarely, it doesn't even count. I only do it to experience, and to know if I like any variants. Once again, so rare that you can say that I don't drink at all.

What's your opinion on people that refuse to drink alcohol at all?
I'm totally fine with them. People are entitled to their opinions.
However, if it's for stupid reasons, or for reasons like religion or just the idea that it is bad, I suggest that the person try it at least once in their lifetime and get a personal experience and opinion on it, because it isn't drug.

To those that do drink alcohol, do you only do so in the company of others as a social thing, or do you usually drink alone?
I drink alone, in my room where nobody is around me. I'm scared of what I could do if I lose consciousness, or lose control. Then again, I don't really drink.

What's your opinion on the laws about alcohol? Do you think they're too strict, too lax?
I can't make up my mind about this. 21 seems like a high age for something like this. But looking at the madness people seem to cause sometimes, 18 seems too low then.

Don't drink pure vodka though. It doesn't taste good anywhere. Rum + Coke is one of the tastiest combinations there is. Heavenly.

It's in moderation, so it shouldn't cause any lasting damage.

Next time I'm out partying, I might try that combo for myself. Who knows, it might be really nice.

Now dude, if you really want tasty drinks, here's a good list. But I will say, you're pretty dang young. Careful what goes in.

Sprite & Vodka. (one or two shots of vodka with sprite mixers.
Hot Chocolate & Peppermint Schnapps (There's is something that just makes me love this.)
Rum and Eggnog and milk. (Sounds gross. Tastes amazing. Put VERY LITTLE RUM. Otherwise it will taste like crud. Like a capful.)
Banana Schnapps & Green Tea Ginger Ale (I put in a shooter of Schnaps with this stuff, and it was awesome.)
Rum & Coke (Your basic starter drink, like Sprite & Vodka. Shot or two of rum in a glass of Coke)

Try out some other interesting combos. But those are just the basic stuff. Don't go to twon dude, or do. Just be careful as I have said.

Do I drink?
I certainly do. I have a few beers a night after finishing work and around dinner time. Then of course there are the big party nights as well. Last night is a good example. I never realised how good absinthe jelly shots could be until then.

What do I think of people who don't drink?
Well, just going by some of the responses from non drinkers on here I only have one thing to say.
The difference between people who do drink and people who don't drink is, the people who do don't make a big fuss about those who don't.

The laws about drinking don't really bother me that much, I'm 22 anyway so the age thing makes no difference to me.
I would also like to point out there is no guarantee of ever being hungover either. I consumed more than I have in a long time. I won't say exactly how much, I don't particularly feel like being chastised about it on here by some non-drinkers, but it was a fair amount.
I got home from the clubs at about 5am. It's now 10:24. Ive been up, showered, doing the housework that I needed to do and everything and I feel absolutely fine. No sign of any sort of being sick.

Everything in moderation is alright, so they say.
You can't live your life by what is apparently good or bad for you. Every time I turn around something else causes you cancer or some other disease.
People need to just relax, be themselves and enjoy their life. It doesn't matter what you do, we all die sooner or later.

Do you drink alcohol?
No. I haven't had a drink of alcohol since I turned 21. And since I don't drink, I'll answer the questions that deal with non-drinkers.

If not, why not?
Honestly, I just really haven't given a thought about deciding to drink. Maybe it's because my Mom hates drinkers because her family had a lot of drinkers who got their lives messed up. She nearly kicked my brother out of the house when she found a bottle of alcohol in his car, which was unopened.

Is it a bad thing to drink alcohol?
Yes and no. Some people can get away with drinking a lot, but there are timed when people drink too much and they cause nothing but trouble. Even if you got rid of it, people will still drink. It's a necessary evil in the world. It's all on how you handle it.

Is it because you dislike the taste, or the effect?
I never really gotten drunk before, so I don't know how I'll handle it. The taste, I kind of heard that different kinds of alcohol is it either tastes bitter or harsh or the equivalent of drinking urine. I have heard the latter most often. Maybe that's why I haven't drank a beer yet.

What would your opinion be on someone who gets drunk every night?
I have no problems with them. But you never know how they might act when intoxicated. I'm more worried about drinking and driving.

What's your opinion on the laws about alcohol?
We're better off with the laws about not being able to buy liquor until 21 deal. We had it for years and I know some people here at PC want it lowered to 21 so they can get drunk and cause accidents and kill people. 21 to drink, I always say. And to the person who wanted the stuff banned... we tried that before in the 1920's and it didn't work.

Do you think they're too strict, too lax?
It's all in who's enforcing it. I know a lot of places that sell it ask for I.D., while you may have others who don't give a crap, but what happens when a person of legal age buys some and gives it to minors who don't know any better?

There, I'm done.

It's 4am, I am drinking right now.

Effects. How often? Not often enough for me to consider it a problem.

Alone.

What's your opinion on the laws about alcohol? Do you think they're too strict, too lax?

It doesn't matter, nobody follows the laws here anyway. Most people are drinking by the age of 14.

The people that think alcohol is something made by the devil are the people that haven't tried it themselves or have seen loads of people doin' it wrong.

You need to calm down. Seriously.

~*~*~

Do you drink alcohol?
Usually every Friday and Saturday.

If so, why?
I don't really have a reason I guess. I like the taste of beer and mixed drinks. It's fun to experience an altered state of mind sometimes too. I don't do it to ESCAPE MY HARD LIFE OR ANYTHING. Just an alternative method of relaxing.

To those that do drink alcohol, do you only do so in the company of others as a social thing, or do you usually drink alone?

Sometimes it's a glass of wine with my mom. Most of the time it's at the bar with my friends. The gay community around here is rather small so everyone pretty much knows each other so it's usually one giant party at the bar. Other times it's up at my old college with my friends or my old apartment with my friends across town.

What's your opinion on the laws about alcohol? Do you think they're too strict, too lax?

I think the drinking laws should be similar to European standards. At the most, the age limit should be 18. But as long as you're being careful and not binge drinking, there's little harm in doing it.

And I agree with what Vendak said:

The people that think alcohol is something made by the devil are the people that haven't tried it themselves or have seen loads of idiots doin' it wrong.

Before I got celiac disease I would have a beer here and there at a party, or a mixed drink ~during a girls night out~, and wine at our christmas/new years parties with my family and that was the extent of it. I was never a person who drank at every party and i've certainly never been drunk.

however, now I can't drink, sooo it doesn't really effect me. except when I get bored being the only sober person around. luckily not too many of my friends are heavy drinkers.

oh and I do have friends who legit get plastered every night and it can be annoying, especially when i'm the one getting the drunken 4am texts/calls about random crap WHEN I'M TRYING TO SLEEP BECAUSE I NEED TO BE UP AT 6AM FOR CLASS. but seriously, as someone who has a recovering alcoholic in the family, I really dislike use of it everyday. it can do more damage than just to your liver :/

Do you drink alcohol?
Yup. Not too often, but I do.

If so, why?
Honestly, I just like the taste. The only time I was ever drunk was at an outdoor music festival when I drank too much beer but I was there with my family anyway (lol I'm so cool) and by the time we got back to our hotel at the end of the night it had pretty much worn off anyway. Otherwise, I get a bit tipsy if I haven't been eating while drinking but considering I'm used to being on painkillers fairly often, it never seems like a big deal at all. I just get a bit lightheaded, not even worth mentioning.

But I have no issues with people who refuse to drink. It's their choice and they have their reasons. I do get annoyed with the ones who get all "holier than thou" because I drink on occasion and they don't. But honestly, I moreso judge the people who drink to the point of blacking out, or being too drunk to function, or just not drinking responsibly. :/

To those that do drink alcohol, do you only do so in the company of others as a social thing, or do you usually drink alone?
I guess I mostly drink when the opportunity arrives either at home or with friends. But I'm not adverse to drinking on my own. Had a beer last night while playing video games and snacking. :P Usually I won't go out of my way to get alcohol though, so I typically only remember to drink when my friends are drinking or if there's a beer or fruity drink I like in the beer fridge at home.

What's your opinion on the laws about alcohol? Do you think they're too strict, too lax?
I think they're fine. Drinking law could be lowered to 18, but I think it's fairly fine in Ontario. I think it's ridiculous in the US though. :( People can make life-changing decisions like getting married at 18 but can't drink until 21? Lol okay then. I understand the need to deter people from drinking too early but by making the age later, I kind of feel people who really want to will drink anyway and by restricting it/making it harder to obtain, it's already kind of encouraging them to drink irresponsibly. Dunno if that's actually how it works though, just seems logical in my head. @[email protected]

All of that said, aside from a quick sip of wine or beer from my parents (that I usually just gagged at anyway xD), I never had an alcoholic drink until I was 18 and my mom bought me some vodka coolers before I went to university just so I would know what alcohol and its effects were like, in case I was at a weird party or something. Drinking while underage never really appealed to me at all and I do agree that people shouldn't drink underage just because they're more inclined to be irresponsible.

...lol at kids in this thread who think drinking casually/on occasion results in RUINED LIFE 4EVER.

I'm a coeliac, and we can drink many different kinds of alcohol, like ciders, wine and most spirits.
