I have a question regarding the number of pokemon in a team.
I'm about to start up a new adventure, but I'm not sure how to approach it. Should I...

1. Carry a team of six, and ONLY six, mons all the way to the Elite Four. They would level up with each trainer and gym fight, and there'd be very little grinding involved.

or

2. Catch every new mon that I encounter, and then take time to level grind all of the beasties. When the endgame approaches, I pick 6 of them to go to the finals.

I suppose I'm just asking for an opinion on this one. It might be good to look at the pros and cons of both. Regardless, I would appreciate any comments.

I usually just do four Pokemon until after I've beaten the Pokemon League. Catching every Pokemon you encounter and training all of them would take a long time to finish the game. Unless, that's what you want. If you want to get through it faster I suggest just using the first six.

Personally, I just catch 6, plus one or two extra to use as HM slaves. Keep in mind that in DPPt, you don't need to catch pokemon to increase your pokedex count. You only need to see the pokemon, not catch them.

Actually, I kinda like the idea of raising a whole bunch of 'em. Sure, it would be a long process, but I think that's the true purpose of the game and it'd be lots of fun.

Although, it is good to have some strong enough to keep things moving.

Yeah, I catch every Pokemon I encounter nd try and train them all, it takes longer but I prefer it and it means you can enjoy the game for longer as well.

I like playing with only one Pokémon. Maybe that's just because I love Solo Challenges, but it could be that it's so much fun to be overpowered as hell by the end of the game. :P

Overpowered? If done right, you could be way OP by the time you get around to the Elite4 and even the champion.
My siblings and I have always played pokemon as if it was a solo challenge, never any other way.

I'd go with option two, to be honest. It sounds like it'd give you a greater challenge and allow you to fully experience your game and learn the pros and cons of each Pokemon. :)

Personally, I think that, after you beat each Gym Leader, you could choose/catch up to six Pokemon that have a type-advantage against the next Gym, then train those until you beat the next Gym, and so on and so forth.

I do the same thing every time , I pick the 6 pokémons I like the most to finish it up to the league , then after the league I raise almost every pokémon available in the game.

I always do a team of six to keep through the whole game and when it comes time for the E4 I review and make changes to my team if I feel I need it.

I just train a core group of six Pokemon that can handle a wide variety of threats. I can't be bothered with constantly switching my team, let alone training Pokemon I don't particularly care about.

Well I've looked at quite a few responses on here, and now I've decided how this new adventure will go. I will go with option 2: To me, every mon is a winner, and if I have to raise an army, then by gum, I will!

What I usually do is catch every new species I encounter, but only train a handful which seem useful at the moment I catch them. Usually this is five/six different Pokemon, but occasionally I move them around to get more which are partially trained. You could consider doing that- it's kind of a combination of your two options. :)

I always catch all of the Pokemon as I go along (unless I'm doing a challenge of some sort), and I normally start off training all of them, but in a lot of games, I give up on training some of them after a couple of badges. It's a lot of fun to train everything as you go along, but it also takes forever (I still haven't gotten around to finishing LeafGreen yet with this method after more than six years, though I'll admit that I don't have that much time to play that game anymore). In the long run, it's a lot more efficient to beat the game with one team (or even a single Pokemon, if you prefer), then go back and level up more Pokemon, as you'll be able to drag them along and train them against tougher opponents than you would have had you trained them during the natural course of the game.

I just catch a whole bunch of them, then end up picking six of em' as I go and just use them for the E4. Then I train the rest after, but mostly for my pokedex.

sorry but to me ur idea is weird. i personally like to plan my team their strengths. weaknesses, movesets and abilities (dont care 4 natures) 4 example, i get an arcanine, i now need something to back up that arcanine a grass or electic would beat that water type or wateva. that sometimes does not work i figure out all the gyms/pokemon leaugue and make a suitable team 4 them. try 1 of those ideas mayb(works 4 me)

I usually get 6 and go with them. I catch the others along the way for my pokedex. I don't think catching all the pokemon and grinding them all will pay off, especially since you might not use any of the others after putting the effort into them...

I only train all those Pokemon I caught after beating the Elite Four. And I don't just train any random I caught before. I train the low-levellers first before moving on to those I want for more Wi-Fi battle teams. I suggest grinding on those you've caught and then once you're at VR, pick the cream of the crop. ;)

I usually use a full team of six, with sometimes a seventh as a backup or high-level HM slave. It works for me.
