Just preordered mine today (aqua, hell yeah). The $250 price tag doesn't bother me that much. I don't really care if it has the same price of a console, because with the games set to come out for it I expect to have the same level of fun. The PSP launched at this price marketing itself as a portable to match console graphics, along with being the ultimate media center-- goals I personally do not think it accomplished until its later years. Today we live in a different economy, with better technology, so I find no problem with this price. I can't wait to see how people when react when Sony announces the "PSP2"'s price, which they've been telling devs will almost match the PS3 in power and graphical definition.

I do think Nintendo will purposefully cause a shortage at least until the Christmas season. Most parents will not shell out this kind of money in the middle of the year unless for birthdays.

The Wii was priced at $249.99 at release in the US. So the 3DS is essentially at the price of a major console, which is pretty ridiculous. It's a handheld. Although it has 3D and all this other stuff (including the ~fabulous~ region lock), it shouldn't have to scale the price ladder like this, and can you imagine its upgrades? Those prices will be even more outrageous.
It depends on what you think major means. That is, im sure you meant Home console. But honestly. But come on now, I don't see what's wrong with comparing it to a home console. This isn't just a handheld, considering all it's features and right now probably the best graphics for a handheld to date. It is also the first 3D gaming console. (if you don't count the virtual boy).
It also has all the crap like the docking system, sd card etc..

Also, you americans should be happy. We in the UK have to pay £70 more money than what it's worth in North america, £230, which just about is $368, $118 more than you guys. :(

Also, I will be getting it on the Launch day I already have the money, I just have to not spend it. xD
Sadly, it's on a friday so I might have to go after school.

Here's a good topic, what colour are you guys gonna get?
Cosmo Black or Aqua Blue
There was nothing. Followed by everything. Swirling, burning specks of creation that circled life-giving suns. And then we reached to the light.

Well, if it has a major price tag like that, then you would expect it to be a home entertainment system as well. But I highly doubt the 3DS can do that, unlike the PS3 and the 360. (I don't count the Wii against them too because it just falls short every time.)

And yes, I live in the UK and we do have to pay more, all the more reason for the point to be proven that it is TOO expensive, as they are trying to push it too much towards being the best thing ever so you have to spend more money on a glorified handheld.

I just don't understand why they have made it SO expensive. And don't say it is because it is the first 3D console, because it isn't. Most people will just not remember the Virtual Boy.

The power needed for decent 3D graphics on the 3DS is a significant jump - you're essentially rendering two scenes at once and playing them at the same time. On the few PS3 games we've seen with 3D support they've had to make big compromises to achieve it - Gran Turismo 5 goes from 60fps to 30fps and scales back on the graphical quality.

GAME updated the website with pictures of the Game packaging/covers:

They just moved the logo on the other side xD It might be a different shape of something. (like wider or taller)

I read somewhere that the logo was moved because they didn't want parents confusing these for DS games, as the cartridges will look similar to DS games but won't work on the system.

That would be a burn, wouldn't it.
You get a new shiny 3DS and your parents make the mistake of buying a normal DS game. XD

I would have thought they would have changed the boxing or something maybe. They will still look the same from the side...

Pre-ordered~ I intend to get a blue one, just because I don't want glossy black.

I'm okay with the price, honestly. Speaking from the USA. It would be nice if it was less, but it's not. It's honestly not a SUPER BIG DEAL like it's made out to be, and everybody stole everything from everybody else, but the combination of the features it has, and the first-party intellectual property, and potential for quality titles make it worth it in my mind. Extra-moreso if they can add 3D video recording to that.

So neener neener to the haters, I have a reasonable explanation for paying the Outrageous Price of Two-Hundred Ninety-Nine American Dollars. Can't say anything about Europe, however.

I'm still waiting on pins and needles for Paper Mario info. ^_^

I just don't understand why they have made it SO expensive. And don't say it is because it is the first 3D console, because it isn't. Most people will just not remember the Virtual Boy.

virtual boy looked like a brick with legs and had a library of 22 games that all looked half done. it was also sold as US$180 on release, which is alot for that time.
the 3ds is the first 8th gen console on the market, with proper 3d that doesn't require glasses, has specs that almost matches the wiis power, and a library that pretty much starts off with 30 games on release.
alot of money would have gone into producing it, i can't imagine those 3d screens to be easy to make, so at US$250 it's pretty reasonable. in fact i get the feeling that they were getting more of a profit with the wii than they would with the 3ds.
if you think it's too expensive then don't buy it. if the sales aren't good enough, then there may be a price drop in a year or so. But seeing the amount of people wanting to get their hands on it as soon as they can, it will be a hit and many people will buy it, meaning a price drop won't come for ages.
Theres really no use in complaining, the only thing you achieve is looking like a bit of a whinge.

What games do people hope to see on the 3ds, that hasn't been announced yet?

i can think of a few off the top of my head...
a super smash bros
dissidia
katamari - that would be amazing
pokemon - well who doesn't XD
mother - a remake or a sequel, idrc

3DS. 3DS.
<_>
Why Nintendo, whhhhhy? My poor wallet. D:
I was unsure about getting this, because I only just BOUGHT A DSi IN 2009. I was expecting at least 5 years with it. -it was an upgrade after 4 years with a broken DSP. which didn't work.-
After I saw the Ace Attorney VS Professor Layton trailer, I was sold.
Which is a bad thing. Now I'm thinking of trading in my DSi for it, since I'm low on money. Trading games/consoles in really irks me. :I
Well, as long as the NEXT GENERATION doesn't come out the next month next year or 4. I'm alright. It's weird. I'm really hyped about the 3DS, but at the same time, I really DON'T want it to come out.

What games do people hope to see on the 3ds, that hasn't been announced yet?
Golden Sun.
Mother 1+2+3
Gyakuten Saiban 5
Final Fantasy V+VI remake.

I wouldn't hold my breathe on Dissidia. It's one of those few things than the PSP has going for it, so Sony will not easily give that up. As for Smash Bros., this image:

Was teased at the conferenced right before the Kid Icarus: Uprising preview. They said it was simply to hype up Pit for their upcoming preview, but I want to believe honestly believe there's a deeper meaning.

Did you guys say Mother!? Oh. Man. If any of the Mother series is remade for 3DS, that alone would be enough reason for me to shell out $250 for a 3DS, especially a remake of Mother 3. That's my favorite game of all time. And this time, it better get released in the US, or we will have some serious issues. :|

That's why I said "may be complete". If it exists, my life is complete. If not, then well, it's not complete.
Ah, I see. xD;;
Sorry for the misunderstanding!
It's highly likely though. :3

For those who don't know, amazon.co.uk is now selling the 3DS for £202, which is one of the lowest prices so far, so take a look:
Cosmos Black
Aqua Blue

Also, GAME have now lowered their prices of Games, varying from £32.99 and lowered the 3DS price now to £219.99, including come bundles as well:
http://www.game.co.uk/lowdown.aspx?lid=13891&cm_sp=3DS-_-topnav-_-3DS

I'll be sure to get the street fighter bundle.

I'm sorry, I had to share this.

And also, Pilotwings, Paper Mario, Ocarina of Time, etc. are confirmed as releasing later this year, after the "launch window".

Sounds about right to be honest.

I still won't be buying this. Even if the price has gone down by £10.

Stingy stingy. =p Meanwhile, 3DS is confirmed to be $349.95 and with a date of March 31st in Australia from the conference today.

Kinda what I expected tbh. The date is typically the latest it could be without breaking that 1st quarter claim though. -_-

Thank god for that. Now it only costs £3 more than my GODDAMN WII DID AND THAT AT LEAST CAME A FREE DAMN GAME.

I mean, sweet bejeezus Nintendo, why do you punish your British fans like this? For the americans reading this, that £202, our LOWEST POSSIBLE PRICE, is roughly equivalent to $325, $75 more than you're paying now! and it's most likely going to cost us around $360, more than $100 more than you pay!

I want my OoT remake and I want my Paper Mario, but by the time I've bought the 3DS itself, I won't be able to freaking afford any of the games.

Like, I get that the hardware is going to be pretty expensive to produce. Fair enough. If I was getting it at the USA price (£155) then I wouldn't complain. I'd say "expensive, but worth it"). Can you not just charge different regions equally? Are they using currency converters from a century ago or something?

Seriously, Nintendo, wtf?

I'll be buying this. In fact, I've already pre-ordered it from the USA website.
My parents are generous enough to buy me this awesome console for
the brilliant results I've had in my exams.
Now, the problem is, I MAY have the console faster than most people,
but I won't be getting the games anytime soon.

If I buy the 3DS games, that'll be against the rules of my family. (Motto: Video games aren't worth the money; money can be used to buy better items like diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, etc.)
I need to wait for the 3DS R4... I wonder how long it'll take...
I am now an anime dubber, cover singer and a fan of anime. I can still apply as a translator and grammar corrector, though.

But you get so much more enjoyment out of consoles and games than stones.
