I haven't drifted away from Pokémon yet but the time will come, whether it be if I'm busy with offline things and things get too time consuming, or simply because I couldn't read up on all the information without it taking hours of my time if there were to be more and more generations. I doubt I'll drift away from Pokémon anytime soon though, and people who judge on what I like won't stop me from liking it either. n_n

When I was younger, from when Blue version was released to around the time Emerald was released I was obsessed with Pokemon, but all of a sudden after that I sort of drifted away from it. I got Pearl, but didn't play it nearly as much as my previous versions. I just got back in to Pokemon a couple of months ago though.

Has there ever been a time where you simply drifted away from Pokemon only to come back to it soon after? What made you drift away and what brought you back? If you've never drifted away from Pokemon, do you ever see yourself drifting away from it?
When I was younger, I loved watching the Pokemon anime. Then one day chanced upon this guy using Nova Blast while I was browsing through the channels:

That was probably the beginning of my "distancing away" from Pokemon. Eventually I was really engaged in the "Pokemon vs. Digimon" argument, becoming an avid Digimon supporter and anti-Pokemon. I even looked at the Pikachu-themed GameBoy with detest. :(

Then years later, I kind of mellowed out. One day on a bus ride from school, someone showed me the game they were playing on their GameBoy Advance. Lo and behold, it was Pokemon Sapphire Version. The first feature I noticed was the Secret Bases; the particular one I saw was a treehouse. For some strange and inexplicable reason, that was the feature that spurred my wishing for a GameBoy Advance SP and a copy of Pokemon Sapphire. Since then, I've become pro-Digimon and pro-Pokemon, loving both franchises equally. I'm kind of inclined more towards Digimon these days because the community seems more active, and the main thing that draws me into Digimon is the anime, which takes breaks every now and then. With Pokemon, videogame discussion is nearly a constant, and the anime is interesting at times as well (though Digimon's anime is much superior in quality. Only the Pokemon movies and legendary Pokemon arcs can hope to match it.)

I don't see myself drifting from Pokemon ever in the (near) future; I've invested way too much time in it (the games, the anime, research on the franchise, and Pokemon forums, mainly PokeCommunity. :D) Pokemon Sapphire and Emerald Versions are a sure example of this; I've logged way more hours into them than nearly any other media. >_> The only thing that'll probably detach me from Pokemon is if the games really start sucking, but at that point I'll probably just choose the predecessor to said potential suckiest games. However, I don't think Pokemon's stopping soon, and it adds a lot of good stuff with each passing Gen, particularly the Pokemon. ;)

Well I've noticed some members say they don't like Pokemon, but they stay here for the people and the off topic sections. I've even seen those same people browse around Pokemon General so I figured why not ask! :D
That's really strange... There are a number of other sites you could engage in similar off-topic conversations... But then again this community does seem to foster growth and beneficial development...and if you're on a Pokemon site, odds are that you're bound to get lured to the main subforums to get updated on the current developments in the world of Pokemon! ;)

I've never really drifted away from Pokemon. Drifted from PC, yes, (and I regret it) but never from Pokemon. It's just kind of always been around.

When Pokemon first came out, I was already in high school-ish (gives you an idea about how old I might be) and so was on the verge of the typical, "Is Pokemon too 'childish' or not?" series of thoughts.

I didn't play any games (didn't own any handheld gaming devices until I was an adult), but I kept up with the television series for a while and owned a Pocket Pikachu, too. I sort of stuck with it a little longer into the Johto time period and then... I don't know what happened.

I completely disconnected from the Pokemon franchise save for a few revisits to the older series (rewatching the first movie, for example) and keeping the Mewtwo keychain my kid sibling gifted to me attached to my person or belongings somewhere.

Fast forward to 2010 and I find my interest being picqued with the knowledge that Gold and Silver would be remade for the DS platform (which I own) and that it would include a Pokewalker which would be similar to the Pocket Pikachu that I once carried.

Fast forward again to the here and now and I've not only gotten into the games (already had SS and got Pearl and Diamond as presents), but I've also done a little catching up with the series itself and attended my first official Pokemon event (Black and White tour).

At this point of my life, I'm old enough to be able to freely admit to people that I love playing the Pokemon games (I walk around everywhere with my Pokewalkers attached to me and that includes work) and not care what others might think.

Life is short; make the most of it and enjoy it (responsibly). Just because you're an adult doesn't mean you have to give up something you once had an interest in because you think it's too 'childish'.
