New generation on the block

If you've been a Pokemon fan since the beginning and stuck with it through all these years then you've had to have experienced all the beginnings and endings of each generation. It's a process that I can say I've grown very accustomed to. Yet even with the familiarity of how Pokemon usually goes about when introducing new Pokemon, regions, and everything that goes along with a new generation, I still find myself in a mix of emotions. When one generation comes to an end I find myself dying for the next, but then once the information of the next generation comes out I then find myself running back to the previous generation in fear of anything new. Overtime though (months :D) I finally end up accepting the newest generation as is and I find myself more excited than ever to begin to really enjoy it.

What about yourselves?

When one generation is coming to an end do you find yourself savoring every moment of it, wishing that the next one will never come or do you instead find yourself praying for a new generation to hurry up so you can move on?

Are you at first apprehensive when information on a new generation is leaked, maybe to the point where you refuse to like any of the new Pokemon or are you very accepting and excited?

When a new generation is on its way is there anything that you are particularly fearful of happening? (This could be anything from a really bad evolution to a favorite Pokemon of your's to a drastic change in one of Pokemon's media types *anime, manga, games, TCG, etc*)

---------Keep in mind I'm talking about everything that comes with a new generation, not just the games.---------

I'm a tool of the system so I usually get the newest games even though they are only 'okay' games.

Well as I've mentioned many times before, I quite often drift into and back out of my Pokémon obsession. There's never any really worry for me to lose my interest completely, but I probably would eventually if they were to stop making new generations. :(

A new generation takes its sweet time in exciting me but it always happens eventually, and by the time it's available for me to buy I rarely am able to wait for it. I try not to pay attention to information leaked, because I'm afraid I won't like the information and then I'll end up being biased about it. I'm never afraid of the change though, because I always love new technological updates. The only thing that bugs me is that in a new generation now they always lose and then regain a Battle Frontier. The Battle Subway for instance doesn't sound fun to me at all.

Also sometimes I slip very quickly out of an old generation, but many I linger in and try to absorb all the possible experiences from it. Generation III I stuck with quite awhile as soon as Pokémon Emerald came around, thanks to its Battle Frontier and fun places for finding new Pokémon. However Sapphire was the game I was quickest to slip out of because Generation III didn't interest me without all the extras.

I think what excites me the most though is remakes. Fire Red and Leafgreen never lived up to the excitement, but Heartgold definitely did. I'll just have to cross my fingers that the next remake is something good.

Mostly waiting impatiently for the new Generation to be released, although I do often go back to "re-live" my previous moments in the previous game. For example, I've recently been playing Soul Silver to get back into the frame of mind to play a whole knew region in Unova for Pokemon Black and White. Usually around this time I try a tactic in the game in which I've never bothered trying before, usually catching a Pokemon in which I've never gotten round to using.

Are you at first apprehensive when information on a new generation is leaked, maybe to the point where you refuse to like any of the new Pokemon or are you very accepting and excited?

Mostly a little sceptical at first, but after checking through it and thinking about what uses said feature or Pokemon could be useful for, I begin to really like the idea and wonder just how the others Generations have gone by with the feature, the seasons in Black and White for example. In general, I just have to hope that the addition is for the best and trust in whom ever thought of this idea. Usually the Pokemon series makes rather good choices, although I am a bit annoyed that they left out the 'Follow' feature from HG and SS allowing your Pokemon to follow you in Black and White, but I'll make do.

When a new generation is on its way is there anything that you are particularly fearful of happening?

Not particularly. The new Pokemon, Gyms and landscape are all good-points to me. There's often the thought that a new Pokemon I've grown accustomed to in the previous region might be left out - a feeling I've gained over Unova - but other than that, not much.

It's interesting, because Since I recently started getting back into the Pokemon Games, I carried on playing Platinum, and just accepted it completely, all the Sinnoh pokemon, the Gym Leaders, the elite four, I was able to the picture. But when I try to think back to say the Elite four and pokemon of the Kanto region, I can do it, but there were a few times where I had to stop and really think about it.

I also have become prone recently into taking my DS and pokemon game into Uni. (Everyone is mental on a Musical Theatre Course, no judgements) And a lot of people in my class who saw me playing it said the same thing

''The new pokemons are rubbish, the originals were the best!''

Which I completely agree with, IMO you can't beat the originals, but only Because they were the first ones.
If the original three starter pokemon had been Turtwig, Piplup, and Chimchar, and only now were Bulbasaur Squirtle and Charmander coming out, we would most likely look back to Turtwig etc as the loyal origins, and always slightly prefer them.

In relation to the new games, pokemons, I have browsed through the, and tbh all of them I think look ridiculous, but that said I thought the same thing when I first looked through the Sinnoh ones, and they have grown on me.

I think the anime helps actually, because I finished Platinum when it first came out, but have only just watched the anime seasons of the sinnoh leage, and from watching that certan pokemon have grown on me, that I never liekd when playing the game!

When a generation is near its end I was always waiting for the newest one and all the info that comes with it. If I want to savor it I can always go back and replay it like I did with past generations. I swear I spent from late 2009 waiting for 5th Generation.

Are you at first apprehensive when information on a new generation is leaked, maybe to the point where you refuse to like any of the new Pokemon or are you very accepting and excited?
More like Skeptic of info when it comes out. I am sure all the people that followed the Black and White coverage and past coverages know what I mean when I say there has been so mean misleads, fakemons, erroneous information. I don't really make a point of disliking something but trying to adapt too something. I admit though when I saw the final evolutions for the starters this generations I was a little taken back by then because I was as well as many other not fond of them initially. I am more geared too the accepting excited part. The more info released the more exciting it gets. Then the day when they released the game and all the info came out it was beyond excitement.

When a new generation is on its way is there anything that you are particularly fearful of happening?
That they have too many Water types. I mean they have so many already its enough as it is. I worry about the starters designs and typing I want a "cool" looking final evo. And I don't want yet another Fire/Fighting.

- Kind of.. well, I usually want it to hurry up so I can see what the new gen has because usually I'm bored of the current gen (especially Sinnoh). I can't remember how I felt with Hoenn because I actually loved that gen, plus back then I didn't really look at pokemon on the internet so I didn't even know when the 4th gen was coming :P (I just walked by a shop that sold US copies, went in bought one and that was that)

Are you at first apprehensive when information on a new generation is leaked, maybe to the point where you refuse to like any of the new Pokemon or are you very accepting and excited?
- Yes I am. When I first played DP I felt that none of the Pokemon even looked like Pokemon anymore.. but then I grew to accept them and now I love most of the designs. The same with BW, I first thought the Pokemon looked weird etc, but now I think they are pretty cool (and I haven't even played the games yet..). So yeah, now I can't wait for BW to come out in English!

When a new generation is on its way is there anything that you are particularly fearful of happening?
- I usually get worried that the Pokemon won't live up the standard of the gen before it, but mostly it always does :) (sorry Sinnoh, not you). I'm also usually worried that there will be new pre-evolutions or evolutions of gen I Pokemon, because they shouldn't be tampered with.. (although I do like Electivire). Oh and finally, I always want the starter Pokemon to be top-notch, if they are bad, it just ruins the whole experience.. however, luckily this has never been the case as I love all the starters. :)

I do find myself excessively playing the generation. Trying to finish as much as I can. I find myself in denial sometimes.

I get very apprehensive. At first I hated most of the 5th generation Pokemon. But a month or so later I began to like most of them.

I get fearful that they will completely change the game and wreak it.

I've followed the introduction of the first generation and the second generation a bit more. It's sadly all a bit fuzzy, I guess I was so young I don't remember all that much. It was great buying all these magazines about the second gen and what new features would be in the games! I remember one magazine releasing the full Pokedex for the second gen, before the games were even released (if I remember right...)

The third and fourth gens though, I more or less missed out on their arrivals. I completely skipped out on the third generations, never even really played any of the games. I lost interest in the franchise around that time. Then I missed the hype and excitement over the release of the fourth generation, by at least two years haha. Got back into the games in 09.

So with the arrival of the fifth gen, I was very excited. I didn't really find myself savoring the moments before it's release, more like I wanted it to get here faster! Haha.

I'm accepting of leaked material, in fact I love it! Getting to see something before it's official release? Who wouldn't love that!? Sadly though, when the whole Pokedex was leaked online... I must say I was a bit disappointed in a lot of the designs. All the Pokemon that had been released prior that from that gen were all cool in my book, but for some reason I wasn't so accepting of the rest. A week or so later is when they began to really appeal to me though.

I was fearful of a few things prior the release. One being that I wouldn't like the new Pokemon, which sorta kinda happened at first lol. The other was the changes they wanted to bring to the games. Lots of people wanted to see the games take a whole new 3D approach to the games, much like the Wii ones. Something I would hate to see happen, as I love the sprites. Apart from that stuff, I knew I would love the games as I have loved the previous ones. The fifth gen is really the only gen I've had feelings like this towards though, so it was like a whole new experience for me... even though I've more or less followed Pokemon since the beginning.

Boy I had no idea I would write so much lol.

Depends on what I've heard about the next generation. I was easily looking forward to the fourth generation but not so much the fifth generation, as the 3 vs 3 battles and new moves and Pokemon are totally going to mess up the team I've carefully crafted, more so than the changes from 3rd to 4th generation.

Are you at first apprehensive when information on a new generation is leaked, maybe to the point where you refuse to like any of the new Pokemon or are you very accepting and excited? A bit of both, depending on which new Pokemon I see released. I remember I wasn't very fond of Wooper and Hoppip's designs when 2nd generation was first announced, and I didn't care much for the 5th gen starters when they were first announced.

When a new generation is on its way is there anything that you are particularly fearful of happening? Your trainer looking hideous, a fear that was realized with 5th generation. Also that my favorite Pokemon will be unavailable in the main quest, which happened in 3rd, 4th and 5th generations:/

I found myself savoring every last moment on an old generation before the new one is introduced. But it also depends on the generation. I was able to transition from the 1st to the 2nd with no problem. 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th are the two that I had trouble with. They were rushed pretty quickly. As for my current transition to the 5th gen, I find myself a lot more excited than the other generations. The new features (even the new starter Pokemon) got me really excited that I'm praying it's going to be a fantastic generation,

Are you at first apprehensive when information on a new generation is leaked, maybe to the point where you refuse to like any of the new Pokemon or are you very accepting and excited?
When at first Zorua and Zoroark were leaked, I had in mind that I wasn't going to like the new Pokemon of the next generation. I knew for myself that I was just going to get used to them and just be excited, unlike others who complain, and complain too much that "this generation sucks!"

When a new generation is on its way is there anything that you are particularly fearful of happening?
At first I had a fear that I was going to despise the starter Pokemon that I am forced to choose one, but it's been accustomed later on in the future.
