This is a fan fic of the RSE series (my personal favorite) and i do not claim any of the characters that actually appear in the games/anime/manga I only claim the characters of Tori and Tim in this prologue (and a few others may pop up along the way) and the changes to the plot that I made.

Content Warning:
A little bit of Explicit Language, though this will probably increase as the story goes on.

Author's notes -
First - i would like to say this is my first fan fic. Constructive criticism in every way is welcome. :)

Second - My Prologue turned out longer than i had hoped it would but it is necesary for a majority of the story.

Third - I am already 3 chapters into the story but am not ready to publish said chapters yet so it should only be a brief period of time before you get Chapters 1-3 if it gets a lot of positive feedback. ^^

Fourth - I am hoping to get through mostly all bits and pieces of the Hoenn region though that could turn out to be several really long chapters so im considering a two or three part deal here. Idk yet.

Last - I 'm almost positive i could've indicated dialogue a little easier than i did, any suggestions especially in regard to that would be appreciated

So basically this is told from Third Person Limited POV, centering around Brendan, The male hero of the series. Brendan, May, and Brendan's friends Tori and Tim are all 15 years old and the Prologue will start in Sinnoh. I've added a few twists and turns to the story that i hope i can develop over the next few months into an epic storyline, but we'll find out.

Prologue

Spoiler:

“Brendan! Wait up!” shouted a boy with curly brown hair trudging up Mount Stark alongside a girl with silvery-blond hair.

“You guys are so slow, I thought telling you about something amazing like this would have energized you two enough to keep up with me!” Brendan yelled in reply.

“Well maybe if you would just tell us what it is we would be more eager to see it!” cried the girl while she tried to gain on Brendan.

We’re almost there! No point in spoiling it now.” Said Brendan rather breathlessly as the sun sank toward the horizon.

Brendan reached the top of the mountain and was hit immediately by the blazing heat of the volcanic pit. The others caught up to Brendan and collapsed in exhaustion at the top of the volcano.
“Can’t we just rest here for a minute?” complained the curly-haired boy.

“No way Tim!” replied Brendan.
“The sun’s setting and it’ll be to dark to see.”

“See what?” the blond girl chimed in.

“I just said I’ll show you, Tori, as soon as Tim gets up.” said Brendan, rather impatiently.

“Oh fine.” Tim replied reluctantly as he stood up, unfolding his tall but lanky figure.
“Why are you so eager to show us this anyway, couldn’t this have waited until morning?”

Brendan froze at this. “Well…you see…I really didn’t want to talk about this before I showed you my surprise…” Brendan left his statement hanging.

“What are you talking about?” asked Tori with a hint of worry in her voice.

“Well…my stepdad told me last night…”

“Told you what, Brendan?” asked Tori, totally failing at concealing the worry in her voice this time
.
“He got a new job,” replied Brendan, guilt overtaking him. “a new job in Petalburg city.”

Tim and Tori looked like little children being told Santa Claus isn’t real.
“Where’s Petalburg City…” Tim asked hopelessly.

Hoenn region…” Brendan said in a choked up voice.
He looked from Tim to Tori. Tim was stifling tears with all his might while Tori had let a single tear drip down her cheek.

“I’m sorry guys…we’re leaving tomorrow morning.”

He couldn’t hold it back anymore. He could feel a dam bursting in his head and out came the tears like a river flooding over its banks. Tori fell into him and put her head on his shoulder. Brendan could feel her tears soaking his shoulder and embraced her. He grabbed Tim and pulled him close to them. Even Tim was sobbing softly now.

“I wanted to make this night a lasting memory for all of us,” Brendan said, choking on his tears. “one none of us could ever forget, even a hundred years from now.” He put his arms around Tori and Tim and walked them around the rim of the volcano to the gleaming sea.

“Well…I guess its time to show you guys my big deal.” Tori and Tim watched with a sense of lost hope in their eyes as Brendan took off at a dash down the side of the mountain. All of the sudden, Brendan disappeared at the foot of the mountain.

“Woah!” Tim said in an astonished voice. “It’s like he was swallowed by the mountain!”

When Brendan popped his head back out and shouted for them to follow, they were slow to cooperate but eventually found where Brendan seemed to disappear to.

“Wow! It’s beautiful!” admired Tori as she gazed into a seemingly endless ocean-side cave of jewels and crystals.

“This is what you thought I was going to show you guys?” Brendan asked “How long have you guys known me?”
he shot them a teary grin. Brendan led them deeper into the cave until a fork in the cave, where he took a left with Tori and Tim still following him. They walked for about half an hour until they came upon a dimly lit cavern that was seemingly empty.

“Wait a minute.” Brendan said as a dropped to the floor and began to crawl toward the opposite wall. He came across something in the corner that felt wet and leathery like it’d just come out of the water. The blue creature in the corner woke with a start and peered around trying to see what had touched it. It yelped and began pacing around.
“Mudkip! Mudkip!” it piped.

“Awww! It’s so cute!!” exclaimed Tori.

“Woah!” said Tim in total astonishment. “What’s a Mudkip doing all the way up near Mount Stark?! Aren’t they Hoenn Pokémon?”

“Yeah! I was shocked when he was sitting there, just curled up in that same corner.” Brendan explained. Suddenly, the ground beneath them shook as Tori shrieked in fear.

“Wh-What was that?!” she said, ready to scream again.

There was a thud to their left and the ground shook again. Another thud came from the wall to their left. A third thud. CRASH! The wall went tumbling down and a lake was revealed. Standing in front of the lake was a fierce looking blue creature that stood two feet taller than Tim.
“SWAMPERT!” roared the beast as it charged into the room.

“AHH!” shrieked Tori. “Where did it come from?!”

They huddled into a corner as the mother trudged by, inspecting her nest. Brendan edged toward the exit as the Swampert was turned around.

“Where are you going?!?” whispered Tim.

Brendan mouthed Follow Me to his friends and they did just that. Just as they reached the exit Tim tripped over something and came crashing down. This was followed by the frantic cries of “Mudkip! Mudkip!” from right behind them. They ran out of the cave as fast as they could as the raging mother Swampert came thudding after them. A few minutes later the footsteps stopped abruptly and the trio decided to stop.

“Do you think it stopped chas-Ufff” Tim’s sentence was suddenly cut off by a blast of water shooting him thirty feet forward. Brendan and Tori turned to see that the beast had only stopped to aim its Hydro Pump at them and got a direct hit.

“Run!!” shouted Brendan as he and Tori took off toward Tim and grabbed him by his arms.

They dragged him the remainder of the way toward the exit with the Swampert on their tails. They reached the exit and abruptly dove out of the line of sight of the agitated Swampert. It came storming out of the cave moments later and took a head first dive straight into the water.

“Whew!” sighed Brendan in relief. “That’s one pissed off Pokémon.”
Tori looked at him with an expression torn between dying of fear and bursting with laughter while Tim was either stunned from the blast of water he took or knocked out. Brendan looked around and noticed it was pitch black outside.

“God! Its already gotta be midnight!” He whipped out his phone to check the time.
"10:50 P.M. Well, We’ve got an hour and 10 minutes left with each other before my Mom starts getting worried."
Tori had sat down with her head on her knees, a tear dripping down her cheek again.

Brendan felt a mix of emotions flow through him. Anger. How could his “dad” make him leave behind the people he loved most? Guilt. How could I let him take me away from them? Sorrow. What if I never see them again?
Then something strange overcame him. He leaned toward Tori, dropped his phone, put his hand on her cheek, and kissed her. She kissed back and Brendan could feel her tears run over his hand. He pulled back. What did I do that for?! He looked into Tori’s eyes.

“I’m sorry Tori.” He said with guilt knotting in his chest.
“I never realized it before…it’s too late now.”

He could see her blue eyes sparkling in the moon as she looked back into his eyes.

“Make me a promise.” She said in a sobbing voice. “Promise me your next kiss will be with me.”

“Only if you can make the same promise to me.” Brendan said.

“I promise.” she said with a teary smile.

There was a moment’s silence. “Brendan?” Tori said awkwardly.

“Yeah?” Brendan said, equally as awkwardly.

“I’ve always been too scared to tell you...” Brendan put his finger to her lips to silence her and leaned in toward her again.
He stopped inches from Tori and whispered into her ear. “I love you.”
She fell forward into his arms and cried. He embraced her. Out of the corner of his eye he saw his phone’s backlit screen. 11:11 P.M.

...So im gonna take it my prologue could've been better? well anyways i finished chapter one
Spoiler:

Chapter One

In the Beginning

Klunk! “Owww!” shouted Brendan as the truck hit another bump and boxes toppled everywhere. All of this stuff is going to be broken by the time it gets to the new house. Brendan thought as the moving truck cruised along the road. Why did he have to take that stupid position as gym leader in that crappy city anyways? We were damn well off as we were. This thought led to another thought, a thought that made it almost worth deserting his friends. At least Brendon’s stepfather was allowing him to start his own journey and finally become a Pokémon trainer. He pondered on this topic for a while. What type of Pokémon trainer would he be? Which Pokémon would he choose to start out with? The roar of the engine died and the truck came to a halt.
The overhead door was thrust open and two muscular masses were enshrined in blinding light from the midday sun. When Brendan regained his vision he saw two Machoke, large and human-like, standing at the foot of the truck hauling boxes from the back where Brendan was riding. They peacefully went about their business as a short, middle-aged woman scurried out of the house the truck was parked in front of.

“Brendan! You’re finally here! Come in and I can show you to your room.” said the woman in an excited voice.

“Okay Mom, I’ll be right there” said Brendan. He stepped out of the truck, his sleek black hair gleaming in the sun, and was hit immediately by the breezy wind blowing the sweet scent of the countryside through the air.

He looked around and saw a few rather small houses surrounding a large building that Brendan instantly realized was the Pokémon research facility of the famous Pokémon researcher from this town. This town didn’t seem all that bad and Brendan thought it was definitely a place he could cope with, but it would be home to him.

Brendan realized he was standing in the middle of the road as the moving truck pulled away and he strode to the house where his mother had come out of. He entered into a pretty basic house with two floors. The hall went into the family room on the left, which was separated from the kitchen by a counter. The bathroom was on the right. Straight ahead was a staircase to the upper level. Brendan’s mother came bustling through the doorway from the family room.

“Your bedroom is upstairs, Hun.” She said in her peppy tone.
Brendan ascended the staircase to find one room with a bed, a bookshelf full of his books, a television with a Gamecube hooked up to it, and a new computer sitting upon a brand new desk. On the wall Brendan saw a clock whose hands weren’t moving. ‘That must have been in one of the boxes on the truck.’ thought Brendan. He walked over to the clock and removed it from the wall. He took the batteries out of the clock. He wound it back a bit and replaced the batteries. The second hand sprang to life as Brendan set the clock to its appropriate time.

Suddenly he heard his mother yell “Brendan hurry your father is on the news.”
Brendan shouted back to his mother “He is not my dad!”
He sat down on his bed for a few minutes before proceeding downstairs to hear the news reporter say “I’m Gabby reporting from Petalburg City Gym and I’ll see you next time on Hoenn Daily News.”

The program returned to the news anchor and Brendan’s mother turned to him and said “Oh I guess you missed him.”

“Yeah I guess so.” Brendan said coldly. The day passed uneventfully and Brendan went to bed at around 10:00 P.M. Everything went black as his eyes drooped closed. He fell fast asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow. “Make me a promise.” Tori's voice rang through Brendan's head. “Promise me your next kiss will be with me.” Brendan tossed and turned in his new bed. Tori's voice rang through his head again "I love you too." The scene flashed through his head like he was watching it from a movie theater. The venture into the cave. The Swampert attacking Tim. The kiss.
The last part of his dream was perhaps Brendan's worst fear. Tori was sitting with her head on her knees crying again. He saw himself moving toward her and what happened next hurt worse in the dream than it ever could have in real life. Slap! Tori reared back and slapped Brendan across the face. "You promised me!" she screamed in a voice choked with tears. She stood up and ran away. Her footsteps faded away as Brendan's dream self disappeared. He came to his senses drenched in sweat, his heart racing, and didn't go back to sleep.

btw, sorry it's so short, i wanted the next part in a seperate chapter for a few reasons ^^;
