Horror films that rely on sharp shocks normally do very little for me; for the most part, I can normally tell when something's about to jump out at the protagonist, or a slashing or what have you. More psychological ones, like The Shining, really screw me over, though... couldn't sleep for about two days after I saw that one for the first time.

The Paranormal Activity movies were a major let down for me, mainly because of all the hype. I thought they would be really scary like everyone said, but they were horrible.

Well, maybe I had to see them in the theaters, I rented both of them.

Orphan was actually a really good movie, surprisingly. :o Not too scary, but very creative and the plot was actually pretty nice.
It wasn't scary as much as it was something that sent shivers down your spine, which is what I liked about it.

I watched Paranormal Activity in theaters, and again I was pretty bored throughout the movie. Only time I jumped was at the very end, but that's because I tend to do that to sudden noises. Otherwise I yawned at the climax and ruined the movie for my friend who was sitting next to me.

I don't watch much horror because it really doesn't scare me. Believe me, for all the monsters and undead things and psychos in those movies, they ain't got nothing on some of the creepy people who lurk downtown at night in my city...

I consider "The Lovely Bones" a scary movie for me, probably because of all the thrills and the chills this movie gave me.

Spoiler:
But the ending sucked... literally.

I can't stand scary. I'm such a scary wuss that I've never beaten Portal even though I own it, because I'm too scared of it.
That's nothing. I didn't beat Ocarina of Time because I was scared of the giant spiders in the Deku Tree. I ended up giving it to a neighbour then going around to his house while he finished playing it. This was over ten years ago, though... I think I'd be OK if I played it again now.

That reminds me of one of my personal favorite games Starfox Adventures. During one of the trials you have to go a certain amount of time trying to resist being scared of the dinosaurs that are coming at you and keep the line in the green area of the bar. First time I played the game I'm sure it took me a few tries to beat that trial.

My brother and I wouldn't go near Donkey Kong 64 for 5 years because when we were kids Tiny's Jack in the box boss scared us to no end AND he was hard to beat. Then I would play all the levels except for the haunted house one in the old game Gex.

Luckily most of those places have been beat now that we're older :P games can be very scary things haha.

oh and I hate scary movies with a passion, I can't do them. ones about aliens/zombies/monsters bore me, but ones about ghosts and demons are too much D: I barely slept after I watched emily rose.

I will however, watch old school scary movies from the 60's and 70's just because they's SO bad.

I heard the Orphan was pretty good. My sister owns the movie and I have yet to watch it, probably because I'm nervous to see it. :S

I've never watched the movie, but I've read the book, and personally, I would think the book is far better than the movie. I hear from a lot of people who have watched the movie, however, and have said that the movie wasn't really as scary as they thought it would be.

The book, however....
I think I'd rather stick with reading the book. I'd rather have the images occur in my mind rather than watching them on TV.

When I was in going into 7th grade we had to read that book, and let's just say after most of the parents found out what it was about, they complained to the school board :o

I never got why parents feel the need to complain about books in school, or even worse go as far as to ban books from school libraries/classes.

They're just books, and sure different books are appropriate for different ages, but seriously, rather than complaining about the book being taught, perhaps just talk to you kid about the book? Oh well if anyone feels like discussing this, I'll post a longer reply.

tl;dr censorship blows.

Yeah that actually was a pretty good movie, I'd recommend you see it. It's not that scary.

But I did try the Amnesia: The Dark Descent demo recently. It was good and scary and immersive etc. until I got to the damn invisible water demons. Ughhhhhhh.

Stunning game!

If we are recommending films, .REC = Spanish zombie film, I loved it.

i know rite how did this happen

Horror movies are . . . icky. I never understood the human race's compulsion to scare itself witless voluntarily. @[email protected]

I'd be a bit leery of that, personally. Looks too much like Twilight for my taste, from the summary at least. Though it gets about a million points for Bill Nighy the 'Science Guy' *is shot repeatedly*
