Do you consider gaming health & safety when playing games?

I thought about this when I heard that the 3DS shouldn't be used by anyone under 6, as it may effect the development of their eyes.

If you didn't know, you are supost to take 10 to 15 minute breaks every hour of gaming and the break should consist of you not looking at any form of screen.
Do you actually do this? Or does that just go out the window?

NO LOL
I never do. XD They only say that so that they're not responsible in any way for any damages or injuries caused by playing too long. But in reality, nothing absolutely serious will happen from playing too long. I know people who play 10 hours straight and are healthy and fine. It shouldn't be a big problem.

I dont pay any attention to the health and safety stuff to be honest.

I tend to have a 10 minute break roughly every hour when I'm playing my DS, to go and have a cig, top up my drink and what have you but thats just habit not a health and safety thing.

I have to make sure I dont play my DS for half an hour or so before going to bed though otherwise I end up having nightmares about Pokemon >.<

Not for the DS and Wii and such, my eyes are far to advanced to be damaged by these mere glowing screens ;D. The 3DS however yes as it really tires my eyes out using the 3D function "/

I multitask while I play games. I absolutely never am just playing my DS and doing nothing else, I'll be playing my DS and eating lunch, or playing and doing homework, and it's the same with console games. I always am half-distracted by something else, so I never have to worry about breaks. Plus it's not like I play 12 hours in a row, I can't play a game for more than 3-4 hours without getting bored anyway.

I take a break sometimes every now and then to get a snack or something, but other than that once I start playing a video game on the console, I pretty much forget about most other things. Portable games are another thing, and I can multitask while playing it (eating, whatever). Even then, I usually don't take a fifteen minute break away from the screen, unless I'm putting it down to do something else for a while.

This reminds me of when my friends and I played Mario Kart all day and we forgot to eat. There was no break time for us!

If I can play a game nearly seven hours straight, which I did once or twice, then I think I can survive not taking a break every hour. Plus, what if I'm right in the middle of a boss or a match when my hour is up? But I do wonder if anyone actually does follow these. Hm........

Guy: Oh darn! it's been an hour, time to take my break.

*turns off game*

*stares at wall for 15 minutes*

*turns game back on and resumes play.*

Sometimes, if I feel like taking a break. Most of the time, I just play until I get bored or something.

They only say it for safety reasons so you can't sue them.

But yeah that's my exact reaction to it, I play for alot longer than an hour in most cases ;D (Especially on B/W)

And if the 3DS is for 7+.. why are the games 3+? (In Europe anyway)

The rating on the console is the minimum age of what person is recommended to use it.
However, the game rating are completely different. The 3+ referes to the content, not the H&S aspect; that is why.

Actually even MGS4 says it while you wait for the game to install itself on your harddrive. "Take breaks after every hour"

And even when I was playing MGS2 my dad used to tell me to take breaks after every hour of playing.
