I've just got the Bicycle from the Day-Care man and can now breed at the Day Care. However, I've never actually bothered with breeding before, I was always much more interested in beating the Elite Four than completing the Pokedex.

So, where do I start with breeding? What Pokemon should I start off with?

I keep seeing people mention Jap Dittos, whats the difference between Jap ones and English ones?

Any tips for someone new to breeding? Are there Pokemon that I should definately breed?

Do you breed your Pokemon at all? Do you breed to complete your Pokedex? To trade them? Or just cos you can?

most people start off with breeding starters as those are some of the most requested. but breed your favorites.
and for the japanese ditto question. if u have to pokemon from different language games then u have a higher chance of breeding a shiny. so if u have an english dieno and a japanese ditto u will have a better chance of breeding a shiny dieno than if u were using an english ditto.

as for tips check out bulbapedia and other sites where they talk about breeding.

i breed pokemon i find it alot of fun because u never know when u will get a shiny or what ivs u will get. i mostly breed to help other people complete there pokedex so if u have any questions just vm me ^_~

Seems like a thread that can relate to all games, so I'll go ahead and move it over to Pokémon Gaming Central.

As for me I'm currently breeding a Quiet nature Ditto with Solosis. Dittos can hold an Everstone which gives the Pokémon to be hatched a higher chance of having the nature the Ditto contains, so this comes in handy for if you want to EV train the Pokémon. I'm into competitive battling so its my main reason for breeding Pokémon there. I also breed Pokémon for IVs which comes in handy for both the competitive battling field and for trading.

I'm fine with this being breeding discussion, but please remember that questions you need answered go in the respective thread(s) for that...now...

Just go with something you like. :o

Masuda Method. Since Ditto can breed with virtually everything, it's just the go-to Pokemon for doing this method. A foreign Pokemon and a Pokemon from your game will have the chance of hatching a shiny cut drastically. You'll go from a 1/8000something chance to a 1/2000something chance, iirc.

idk. Not into this kinda stuff. I'm not even good at Masuda, lol.

I do, usually when I need something or wanna use something in a challenge or normal playthrough on another game, though. I hardly ever try to do my Dex, but region dexes, yeah. Aaaand I don't have Wifi so nope, no trading. But friends here, sure. I'll trade with them. But most of the time, I breed just because I want a shiny lol.

This is just me being really, really anal, but if I ever get a traded Pokemon, normally I breed that with a Ditto or something, just so I can have a little critter that has my User ID and not someone else's. Kinda crazy, I know, but it just feels incomplete unless I can say that the critter in question is MINE! ALL MINE!

With regards to other uses for breeding, unless there's a really good Egg move that I want, normally I stay clear of the daycare. Baby Pokemon don't appeal to me, and I'm not that bothered about EV/IV training from scratch... so I don't do it most of the time. Good luck on your breeding adventure, though.

Start with Pokemon of the same species; they have a high chance of breeding together.

Japanese Ditto are mainly used for the Masuda method (shiny Pokemon have a better chance of hatching if both parents are from different language games).

Use Pokemon with different ID numbers, but are in the same egg group as the parents.

I breed my Pokemon as a last resort when I can't be bothered to catch one with good IVs in the wild. I also breed for egg moves.
