I never get sick of Emerald...I might get sick of other Pokemon games for a while, but Emerald is always fun to me.
This, and
Pokemon Sapphire Version could be considered as well (though I lost both of the
Sapphire cartridges that I owned ;_;). Currently, I have
667+ hours on
Pokemon Emerald Version and counting... Part of the reasons I still play include:
- Generation 3 (particularly RSE/Hoenn) is very nostalgic for me; it's the first Gen I started with (concerning the Pokemon games)
- I was unable to get a DS throughout all of Generation 4, so I've been "stuck in Generation 3" for quite some time now... Hopefully, I can get a Nintendo 3DS, Black/Gray Version, and the Sapphire remake before Generation 6 rolls around...time will tell. >_>
- In Emerald, I've had a goal of getting 57 wins in the Battle Tower's Multi Battle Mode. I attained that feat in Double Battle Tower before I did it in Multi Battle Mode. I consider Multi Battle Mode to be the greater achievement, mainly because the player only gets to use TWO of his/her Pokemon, having to rely on the computer for "teamwork" and strategy (to an extent). Currently, my streak in Double Battle Mode is 61 wins, and I have a "current" streak of 57 wins in Multi Battle Mode. I don't want to continue, because I have spent YEARS attempting that streak in Multi Battles, and I don't want some dumb-butt Blissey, [email protected], Metagross, Salamence, or Heracross to go and effortlessly screw it up in like 1-2 battles. >_>
- There's still minor stuff to do in Emerald, such as daily Lottery checking, daily Mirage Island checking, Battle Frontier streaks, Trainer Hill streaks (much of which I'm saving for a surprise), and growing Berries for Generation 4 usage.
But yeah...despite the agonizing monotony,
Emerald's Battle Tower has been able to tide me over from
before DP's release to present day. I highly anticipate that
Platinum,
HeartGold, and
Black/Gray will be oh-so-refreshing changes of pace from Gen 3, though RS3DS remakes will call me once again back to the Hoenn region.
Also,
Emerald is the only Pokemon game where I have a completed regional Pokedex. I did it
specifically to obtain Totodile as a reward from Professor Birch, and I was going to attempt it two more times before I learned of HGSS's release. So I don't even know if I'm using that Totodile now... Even worse, I'm likely going to have to delete that save file to start my "permanent/official"
Emerald save file, as the current one's purpose was
strictly to serve as my "get Totodile from Professor Birch (and possibly raise some Level 100 Pokemon for Secret Base training)" file.
The only reason I've played that specific file for so long is because I lack a means to trade/migrate its Pokemon right now, and it's the only videogame I was able to play on a near-daily basis, as opposed to my Wii games that are restricted for summer play...)
Also,
Super Smash Brothers Brawl will most likely become this type of game, following in its predecessor,
Super Smash Brothers 64. I sunk
hours into that game on the Nintendo 64, and
Brawl will assume the same fate on the Wii, most likely, primarily due to its expansive nature and vast improvements over the original SSB installment. I hope to return to SSB64 time to time, though, as it is CLASSIC and kicked off my most favorite videogaming series of all time. :D
