I've seen, and bought games which are exactly like this. They mention something like, that of you love one game, that you'll most definitely love another game. While these mentions mean well, they can sometimes be just full of crap, and just have nothing about the game.

Have you seen one of these before?

Where would you think this would fit?

I have seen this before, a while ago actually. When I bought Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Nonja Storm 2, I have this thing with reading the instruction booklets that come with the game, and there was a message sort of like this on the back, saying that if you love Dragon Ball Z, then you'll love Naruto. Well to be honest, I think since the new games in the one mentioned and Raging Blast 2 are quite similar, the two shows are quite different.

As for where I think it would fit, any game which seem quite similar with each other. Maybe like Guitar Hero and Rock Band, or something like Zelda and Metroid, which in hindsight, are two similar games.

The boxart for Pikmin 2 says something along the lines of "Another masterpiece from Zelda creator Miyamoto"

True, but it's nothing like Zelda. And...it's the second Pikmin game. If you liked the first you'll like this one would seem more appropriate. Not if you liked an unrelated game.

I got all excited when I saw ace attorney in the thread title haha :)

but actually, this exact example has worked for me. I looked under games I would like if I play ace attorney and the main ones that showed up were Assassin's Creed (which i'm playing now and really like) and the other one that came up was 9 hours, 9 persons, 9 doors and I LOVED that game. It's my second favorite right behind ace attorney since they're both visual novel game types. idk, maybe I just got lucky with the ones I picked?

I can't remember a game I got that I was led to by that logic, tbh. I've been told I'd like Golden Sun since I like Pokemon...never played GS though, so I wouldn't know if they're alike. Normally, this makes me want to stay away from the game. XD; Cause I mean, that would lead me to compare it to what it's being compared to, and I'm used to things not living up to expectations, so...yeah. Rather not be disappointed. So if you want me to play a game, just tell me what it's about, the genre, etc. and we'll see if I run with it.

You win. I loved Ace Attorney and 999, so now I have a rabid liking for visual novels. :|

If you loved AA and 999, well, go play some Ghost Trick (it's by Shu Takumi, same guy who came up with AA) or Hotel Dusk. You'll love them, or at least like them. ^^

I don't see this that often, I guess because most boxes don't ever say it. If someone does say it, it's just a fan of both games and I tend to take "unofficial" things not quite so seriously, so if the person turns out to be wrong, I'm never that disappointed.

I think it fits for anything, though. If two games are fairly similar in anything, they can be compared. If you like one thing, chances are you'll probably like something that has similarities--it's not very complex, haha. Same with if you like something from a developer, their next attempt at a game might appeal to you too since the same team worked on it and so on. Makes sense to me and quite often the easiest way to suggest something to someone without potentially spoiling it for them (if they do decide to pick it up) is to tell them something it's similar to and hope that helps to convince them.

Alright, another visual novel I can see, but how on earth is Assassin's Creed even close to Ace Attorney? They're both great games but... man. xD; Would not be my first comparison/suggestion.That said! I did try 999 because a lot of people were saying it was good if you like but it just wasn't really my thing. Not that I gave it a great try (I don't have the attention span for VNs lately). Same with Hotel Dusk and Golden Sun. I should like them based on most of the other games I like but it neither ever clicked for me. D:

tbh, I'm not sure :x I think it's just because I go to gamestop's website for game recs and on their site they're like PEOPLE WHO GOT THIS GAME LIKE YOU ALSO BOUGHT: ~Assassin's Creed~ I get they're nothing alike in the slightest, I think it's more of "people who play this tend to also buy this so statistically, you should buy this too". They are good games that suck you in though, so they kinda have that in common? haha.

Yeah, you gotta want to troop through all the endings and replay each section to really get into it because all those sections are important.

I actually only usually look for visual novel recs on websites/rec sites because I can never do shooter/combat (minus assassin's creed) and games like Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy tend to overwhelm me with all the stuff you have to memorize/do, so when I get recommended visual novels I do check them out.

The only such game was Space Colony for PC. It was compared to The Sims, and though it was fairly similar, it had vastly more limited control and you couldn't many aspects of the colonists lives like you could within The Sims. Fortunately for me, it was a "bargain bin" find to begin with, so I only paid $7 for it.

That and any city sim games to the Sim City series, though I usually ignored those.

I haven't played a proper turn-based-battle JRPG in a while besides (lol) Pokemon, so my friends are like "PLAY GOLDEN SUN/DRAGON QUEST/FINAL FANTASY VI IT'S LIKE POKEMON!" Thing is, I don't particularly like Pokemon's battle system, just its simplicity and strategy, which is just different in GS/DQ/FF.
Everything ends,
and that's always sad.
But everything begins again, too,
and that's always happy.

If you haven't played the Layton series, you should. :] They're essentially puzzles+visual novels.

Anyway, yeah I get it now. xD I thought you meant on forums and stuff you'd see people outright posting "If you liked AA, you'll love AC!" but since so many people buy Assassin's Creed and big name titles like that, they probably show up a lot in buying statistics on Amazon and GameStop and whatnot. Makes sense!

I find recommendations nothing save laughable; they're often drawn out of mass-statistics, Sturgeon's Law abound.
Assuming they are accurate, though, games ideally ought to be original apiece, so telling me I will like X because I already like Y is akin to saying that since I already own Y I may as well not bother with X. Quoth Yahtzee: "for Zelda is only one game, with about sixteen different dresses."

I suppose recommendations befit —if anything— one's own immediate circle of friends, as they'll likely be already drawn together by common interest.
