This is a poem that I wrote, based on the popular book "To Kill a Mockingbird" which deals with racism during the 1930's depression, and how intolerance rose.

Mockingbirds don't really cause any harm to people or animals, which is why "To Kill a Mockingbird" means to bother or kill someone just because of thier race, in the book's case, it was a African-American and he was in a case of wrong doing, and because of his face he was procecuted and sent to death.

Enough of my rambings XD, this is a poem I wrote thats put into that era of the depression.

Note to the author: Please don't sue for use of the title, I know its not mine XD

To Kill a Mocking Bird

Its said its a sin to kill a mocking bird,
those who beleave its true are always told.
Mockingbirds don't cause any harm,
but its the ignorant people in life that make it hard.
hard to get up and shout,
hard to make a fuss and make it count.

To help them would be the right thing to do,
sometimes you might not even have a clue,
whats its like to feel their pain,
but always make them know,
that all god's childen are the same.

When you see them outside,
you can't help but wonder what they're feeling inside.
Could it be anger? sadness, or even more?
One can't help but wonder what its like,
to step into the shoes,
to live, breath, and even see what its really like.

So the next time you see a mockingbird,
make them know,
that others can see what their feeling,
that others can feel what their seeing.
And make them know that everything will be alright,
make them know that they're are people who see their fight.

I just read To Kill A Mockingbird o.o;;
Weird thing is, Mockingbirds actually are NOT peaceful creatures. Theres a reason why they are called Mockingbirds. I saw one attack a hawk once XD they attack anything bigger than them :P

Thanks, Eliana I just felt like I just had to write a poem about it, after just finishing it, and seeing how bad it was back then other cultures and races.

My mistake then XD, from what I read I heard that they just attack if they feel like other animals are after its eggs so I hope that, thats the only occasion when they attack XD.

Trust me, Harper Lee won't kill you. Kinda hard to when one is dead.

Good poem, I like it. Nice lyrical voice there.

Very well done, it gives the tone of the time. The injustice of racism and how nobody wanted to, or were able to take a stand against it. The style you used really came out good as well. I liked the last part, when it was talking about even if you can't help someone at least tell them that you know they hurt. And that you can support them. Good job.

And ya you won't get sued....Lee is long dead ^^;

Ok then, thats some weight lifted off my shoulders ^^.

Thats what I was trying to come across, it was way too unfair back then, myself being mixed with black and Japanese, it would have been 10x more harder to cope because even mixing of races was equaly if not more frowned upon, and even today in our late society thats not approved in some people's eyes.

I've always though that was a good thing though. Having mixed blood is a sort of "erosion of boarders" type thing thats a symbol of unification.

Thanks, it is a fictional story but just deals with real situations that would have been typical in the 1930's.

Ooooh, after reading your sequel/Prolouge to "To Kill A Mockingbird" this poem seems easier for me to understand.

Only a few spelling errors:
Its = It's (the apostraphy states that you're saying 'it is')
beleave = believe
alright = all right

OK, the flow of your poem ish pretty good, I enjoyed reading it, anyways. n_n This poem really does show how people were treated back then. Even now there is still discrimination amonst us. It's really a horrible thing, for all of us are God's creations, and no one should be put down for such a minor detail as race.

Overall great job LT! ^o^
