The lower chamber of the Oklahoma state legislature has passed a birther bill. The bill is now awaiting a vote in the state Senate.

This link has also discusses other states where birther bills are under consideration:

There's a chance the governor of Oklahoma might veto it like Arizona's did...and even then it might not pass the upper house...
I wish all this birther stuff will end...

Could someone explain to me what a 'birther' is? I've been reading the word over and over on these forums and I don't know what to make of it, just that it has something to do with whether or not Obama should be president.

As per the framework of the U.S. constitution, only someone born in the U.S. is eligible to become president. Birthers are conspiracy theorists that look at Obama's vague childhood, most of which was spent overseas, and come to the conclusion that he was born in Indonesia or Kenya or something like that and thus ineligible to be president.

I could have swore that presidential candidates already had to prove they were born in the US because that's one of the requirements of being President.

Oh well. I really don't care, it seems like common sense for presidential candidates to have to prove their birth. Although, it's sad that this common sense rule that really already are performed, just not publicly, had to stem from the stupidity that is, "Obama isn't American."

And even if he wasn't born in the U.S., he can still be president because his mom was American. If you're born to an American parent abroad you're still allowed to be President because you're automatically a citizen at birth.
Keep being amazing.

lol, they do, and he did. Hence the part where its a conspiracy theory.

A lot of birthers seem to think that the whole situation is either Obama faking everything in that process or the government being part of the faking.

Oh, and I'm not sure about the law for people with duel citizenship running for President. I remember hearing something about that being a situation that would also not be acceptable, but I don't know the official stuff on that (so if anyone does...).

I don't think being a dual citizen would be a problem as long as you were born in the United States and have been a resident for 14 years prior to taking office.

Ugh...I wish these birthers would just give it up. Seriously, all they're doing is being republican trolls. They're embarrassing the decent republicans, and trolling the Dems because they can.

Seriously, If people would stop hating on Obama, and actually work with him he might be able to get something useful done.
