I know many people here speak all kinds of different languages, and so I got curious. My main languages are both Spanish and English, but I always think in English, unless I'm talking to somebody in Spanish. I tried to think in only Spanish for an entire day, but I forgot and kept thinking in English, hahaha. So, what language do you think in, your native language, or some other language? Do think in multiple languages?

I'm not quite advanced enough in Spanish to be able to think in it with any degree of speed or success, though it's what my teacher claims our eventual goal should be. When someone addresses me in Spanish, certain phrases associated with the question float into my head and I pick the one that fits. Sometimes I have to think what they mean in English, but for the more basic ones I do it automatically. So if someone asks me how I am, I'll be able to reply 'no mal' or 'muy bien' as the case may be, or even something like 'tengo mucho hambre' without too much conscious thought.

I think in Japanese and English depending on the situation. But I think I mostly think in Japanese, that way if I blurt something out there's less of a chance for people to get weirded out. In saying so, I speak mostly in English. Hoo-ah!

English normally, but in certain situations I'm only able to think in Irish.
This may be a really silly question that is going to show off my ignorance about everything outside my little bubble of consciousness, but the Irish have a separate language? I thought they spoke English....

My native language is Greek, but I think in English, as everything I do that doesn't bore me is in English. Most of the books I read are in English, my computer is certainly in English, my games are in English, and a lot of my friends speak in English.

Haha, it's a common enough question, no worries. English has been our native tongue since the famine which was around the mid eighteen hundreds. That said, there's a lot of people who still speak Irish fluently and some of them congregate in certain parts of the country that are known as Gaeltacht regions, where only Irish is spoken. As well as that, children are taught Irish in schools from the ages of five and up. Unfortunately, the curriculum for primary school is severely lacking so a lot of kids end up hating the language before they get into secondary school. And always true to the Irish spirit, the secondary school syllabus for the subject is pretty boring as well. There's only a few exceptions to the kids who hate the language or deem it pointless and they've either grown up with an Irish speaking parent in their household or they (like me) went down to a Gaeltacht region for a couple of weeks to learn the language via culture.

So... yeah, maybe a bit too much information but...

Depends on who I have been talking to what I have been doing before... my twitter is a really good example since I randomly sprout messages in Spanish or English depending on how I'm feeling XD

Although most times I need to think in Spanish to talk to most people around XD

My mind speaks in English but for some weird-I-don't-know-what-happens reason, when I speak it comes out as Filipino. =S

English. I'm not good enough at French or Japanese to hold imaginary conversations with myself and other people, unfortunately. (It's how I spend most of my free time: daydremaing.) My old French teacher thinks in French, though... which is odd, considering she's 100% British!

I... can't control what I'm thinking usually. English is my navite language so that's my automatic go-to language, but it's not exactly like I think a word or sentence in my mind before saying it. It's more nebulous than that. I only really ever stop to think in a language when I'm studying languages or lost for a certain word when I'm speaking to someone and there's a bit of a language barrier.

I think in English, but during high school when I was taking French I and II, sometimes I thought in French. More like...Franglish, lmao. Not fully French, but a lot of words would get replaced (manger with eat, banane with banana, etc) Doesn't happen anymore, but oh well! So yeah, I think in my native language.

Occasionally a foreign word will get into my mind, but it's unlikely a foreign sentence will form.

Usually I think in English. Sometimes I think in Esperanto if I am in a strange mood, even rarer it will be in Spanish, French, or Russian.

I don't know a lot of Spanish, French, or Russian.

Although I only studied it for a very short amount of time, for an odd reason I occasionally end up thinking in French, although the quality of the language is pretty poor. As in completely unintelligible if I wasn't imagining that I was speaking it properly, lol. Other than that, English.

Yep, same! My language is english so I think in english, but back when I took my two years of french in high school, I would make myself think in french to study for my exams and to do my homework.

I'm taking more language again for the next two years in school, so this tactic will come up again :)
