Palestinian factions Hamas and Fatah agree unity pact

Mahmoud Abbas and Khaled Meshaal signed the deal in Cairo

The leaders of Fatah and Hamas, the main Palestinian factions, have signed a deal in Egypt's capital Cairo aimed at ending their four-year rift.

Palestinian Authority president and Fatah party leader Mahmoud Abbas said Palestinians had decided to "turn the black page of division for ever".
Mr Abbas and Hamas's Khaled Meshaal had not met since the expulsion of Fatah from Gaza in 2007.
That expulsion followed a surprise Hamas election victory a year earlier.
Correspondents say the recent Arab uprisings have given fresh momentum to reconciliation.
The agreement paves the way for a joint interim government ahead of national elections next year.
The Fatah-led Palestinian Authority runs parts of the West Bank, while Hamas governs the Gaza Strip. Hamas is designated a terrorist group by Israel, the US and the EU.
"We forever turn the black page of division," Mr Abbas said in his opening remarks.

"Our people have always rejected this rift. All factions will now have to show that they have learned from this difficult experience, and that they will accept a democratic government through the coming elections."
He added that Israel must now "choose between settlements and peace".
"We reject blackmail and it is no longer possible for us to accept the occupation of Palestinian land," he said.
Mr Meshaal said that the Islamist group's "only fight is with Israel" and that the dispute with Fatah was "behind us".
He said the goal was an independent Palestinian state on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip "without giving up a single inch of land".
With the current Likud Government in Israel I really doubted whether the 2 state solution would have happened anyways. :/

But yeah with the Wikileaks fiasco a few weeks ago that caught the Palestinian Authority with it's pants down and begging to Israel, this was kinda inevitable.

Now, I'm sorry for the sarcasm, but.. how about some logic?
You're saying a terror organization is better than a country that one mistake will make you get your balls cut off. Please leave the discussion because you're not contributing anything. Please give me some source who shows how truly evil Israel is.
The fact that, I don't know, Israel has been completely ignoring an UN resolution for decades, causing said terrorist group to appear on the first place? (I also have another resolution that considers Zionism as a form of apartheid) War Crimes in their last attack against Palestina? (I'll be honest: there is an addendum that says some of these crimes are being investigated in lengthy, slow and incomplete reports... but investigated nonetheless).

The blockade? Israeli citizens building settlements in Palestinian territory without being stopped by anybody even though they are illegal according to the International Court of Justice? The Palestinians have been suffering violence and hunger for decades just because some groups can't go and talk to Israel... and because some Israeli politicians think it isn't worth to sit and talk to them when, well, you have been invading their territiories (in other words: you already have all) for decades ignoring UN resolutions and nobody says a single word in the UN because the US stops any iniciatives to criticize them, much less to "cut their balls off".

This. The Israeli military and government do a lot of bad things. I hardly think I'm an evil Jew-hating anti-semite for disagreeing with their actions.

I'd also like to mention that being classified as a terrorist organization by your enemy does not make you one. "Terrorist" is just the US' catch-all term for anyone who stands up to them these days. People fighting for their homes are terrorists, software pirates are terrorists, people who disagree with the government in general are terrorists, people who would rather not be raped by the TSA at the airports are terrorists, etc. And the great thing about calling someone a terrorist is that, once you do so, no sane politician's going to stand up for that group's rights because who wants to support terrorism?

Unfortunately a solution of a shared Jerusalem has been shown to be impossible. There is much interethnic violence already in Jerusalem, and the problem would only be exacerbated by a shared city.
Jerusalem, or more specifically Israel/Canaan has been a flashpoint for violence for well over 2,000 years. It's not going to just up and stop. A shared city would make things worse, yes. As long as the current bodies inhabiting that region still do, there will be no true or peace.
