Like the title says, I got a HP ZD8000 and I was hoping to replace the overheating and problem causing 2nd generation Prescott P4 for a Intel Core 2 Duo T7600, I don't believe my motherboard will recognize it, but it should be able to work with it (Both are PPGA478 socket) Sooo, any chance this would work?

It should work if the sockets match, but I'd make sure you're not breaking anything else while you're inside your laptop. Also, the Core 2 Duo could have overheating problems as well if you don't use an electronic vacuum or canned air to clear out any dust. HPs are notorious for sucking up dust from the surrounding environment.
whoops

Yeah the sockets match, they're both 478 as far as I'm concerned, I'm just looking for a procesor that can equal the 3.4ghz HT P4 this thing has (Without the stupid overheating issues... Seriously, it LITTERALY burns my hands) and I guess a dual core does nicely. I'mma reasearch and get a few more opinions before I jump to anything tho, I dun't wanna buy a 60$ CPU and then realise it ain't gonna work >.>

the ZD8000, I have one of those (it's sitting in my storage area) They are a laptop, which makes them very difficult to swap CPUs. The ZD8000 is even more of a beast, especially since you have to start disassembling from the keyboard down, then flip it over and finish on the back side. In order to even get anywhere inside the thing you have to practically disassemble the entire computer. The easier way I found to reduce the heat around the touchpad (which is where you probably run into the uncomfortableness) is to remove the battery and run straight off the wall plug.
the battery basically stores heat and dissipates it up through the wrist rest area around the trackpad since it's directly above the battery housing.

btw be on the look out for graphics card anomalies, that's why I stopped using mine was because the graphics card failed and in order to replace it, you have to buy a new logic board, which was more than what I initially paid for the machine.

Exactly what I want to avoid... The graphic card dies cuz of overheating too much I believe, so I was maybe thinking taking out that P4 and replacing it with a lower power and cooler running dual core would make it easier on the heat. I was also gonna get a cooler pad and a few fans for the lappy, maybe fix the fail cooling system. Thus the reason I want to replace the P4 for a dual core. Thanks for the tip X3 I didn't realize the battery heated up so much, and yeah I realised that, I opened this lappy once up before, gotta love the way HP desings things xD
