Apparently someone predicted there would be an Earthquake in Rome today- he was a few thousands of km's away :P

Map!

Some military units are there to help the citizens. There are 7 dead between that and the second tremor shortly after. A few ministers are going there to visit the area. Now we'll have to wait and see the effects this has on the regional elections in a couple of weeks- might possibly help the Government if they manage it well.

Looking on the positive side, all these quakes might get people to wake up to the dangers. And by people I mean governments. There are places even in my native, earthquake-prone California where there's not nearly enough quake-proofing on buildings because they aren't priorities.

Earthquakes these size happen all the time, it's not like this is an uncommon occurrence and it's certainly not news. This is substantially less than 1/1000th the size of the one that hit Japan. This is less newsworthy than a car pileup on the expressway.

Tornadoes in Alabama, floods in Tennessee, earthquakes in Japan and Spain...goodness, 2011. Katrina's menstruating cousin coming to visit New Orleans soon? Can't wait to see what 2012 will dish out at us.

Joking aside though, this does make me sad how many natural disasters have been happening this year, or at least, it seems like more are mentioned this year than any other year, as far as I know. RIP to all seven of them, and anyone else that's died in these natural disasters this year. It hurts to see your home torn by something like this.

But yeah, that's unfortunate for Spain.. but it happens all the time. And if you're sad 7 people were killed, objectively, I guarantee over 7 people died today across the globe. May they all rest in peace.
About 10000x that many people die every day.

I find the lack of news coverage on these disasters appalling, there really should be some attempt to translate what is going on to the whole world at this time.

Not only those though, Libya has gone to shreds, rockets are bouncing everywhere but where they're supposed to - a lot of innocent people being injured. And they still have the guts to call Gadaffi the bad guy at the moment.

The one thing I am happy about at the moment is how the structuring of the houses in Europe is specially designed to present complete collapses and really reduces the amount of injuries and deaths. Though it is still unfortunate there are those who have been injured or killed.

Well I guess it's because it's happening in Metropolitan areas that's why we're "seeing it more"

Still prayers go to the victims.

I am sure you would feel differently if one of those 7 people were friends/family of yours. Then it wouldn't be so insignificant now would it.

Guys, I am a bit shocked at some of you just saying "Oh this is nothing, more people die in a minute blah blah". This is still a bad natural disaster and has not only caused death but a fair bit of damage to the environment.
If you were living there, I doubt you would have such a dismissive attitude.
