Hey everybody this is jerichob10 here and i just wanted to ask the question, Do u thing that gym baattles became easier in the 4th gen games because i sure do, i remember that in fire red i had to actually train really hard to do good. but in the 4th gen games i can just stroll by it and most gym battles are a lot more easier. im not saying its a bad thing but its not exactly a good thing either.

I didn't find them easier nor harder than the previous generations of Pokemon. The only challenge I truly had was with Volkner because I had an Empoleon, Drifblim and Staraptor which was no buneo for my team considering the 4th and final member on my team was a Luxray.

It all depends on how you play; in Pearl, I had heard there was an issue with the Gym Leaders being higher level than you expect so I made sure that I fought every trainer on every route. But I hadn't heard that about Firered so I tried to avoid battles and ended up underleveled. If you feel like playing it safe, hitting every trainer, fighting every wild Pokemon you encounter, you'll be fine in any gym.

No, pretty much all gyms are easy for me because they specialize in one type and I have a team that's varied enough (not to mention absurdly overleveled) that I can usually respond with a Pokemon that can quickly finish off the Gym Leader's Pokemon easily.

What I didn't like was how the Gym Leaders used fewer Pokemon (and it only got worse in B/W). I believe Candice and Volkner were the only ones who used four Pokemon and nobody used five.

The only reason they probably seemed easy is because the starters in the 4th Gen Games, barr Chikorita get pretty good matchups with all of the gyms and even so, you can pretty much rampage on through HG/SS by using your starter and nothing else, because of the low levels of the Gym Leaders. Diamond, on the other hand just had a ton of places to train and the starters could defeat most of the Gyms/Elite Four on their own, since they got nice secondary typings.

Well coming back to the pokemon scene and only playing Platinum/HG/SS I felt that in Pt the e4 was a lot harder than I expected. I got all the way to Cynthia and her team just stomped mine. That's when I really liked Spiritomb and got one for myself! lol

I can't say I found the battles themselves any easier. . .although having said that I found myself having the levels that I would use to take them earlier than what I did in FireRed and LeafGreen, Is that what you meant?

I guess he meant about battling in general I thought it was harder because in HGSS for example

Falkner has annoying Roost for healing and
Bugsy has even more annoying UTurn in its Scyther while in GenII CYdnaquil pawned them with a couple of Embers

Yeah that's a fair point, I suppose that over the years they have made the gym leaders use more healing moves etc, but offensive moves have also improved as well as all round strategy, so they kind of cancel themselves out in the end which is why I probably didn't notice much change.

I've never found the gym leaders to be too difficult in any of them games. I might lose once and then I level my characters a little, devise a strategy and go back and clean house. I did find the Elite four (and the champion) in Diamond to be very difficult, took me several retries to beat them.

No, they didn't, but I think that they should include a difficulty setting, easy for beginners, and hard for veterans, just a thought..
