Now, I haven't beaten Gen III, but I did watch a guy play through it and catch all the legendaries, and when I saw the ways you were supposed to catch them I just kept thinking "What made them think this was a good idea?"

For one, who thought about using braille? Especially since it's supposed to be for kids, I wouldn't have known had I not watched how it was done. Also, what's with the whole "you need specific pokemon to get a specific legendary to show up" BS?

It just seems to odd the way they made you encounter legendaries.

Those were probably demonstrating the new capabilities they had with the games on the Game Boy Advance system. And kids are much sharper than you're giving them credit for. I didn't mind them at all, but I didn't really do them due to the difficulty with finding a Relicanth (I got bored of hunting for it).

I agree with the above poster, children are much smarter than they are usually given credit for... And it just helps them irritate me all the more...

Anyway, I think they just wanted to fob off parents and other concerned people that they were helping promote awareness of a difficulty facing many people around the globe, and trying to educate children about blindness and braille- whilst it is a noble endeavour, Education trying to be fun often succeeds- fun trying to be educational often does not.

I really enjoyed having the Braille in the game. As an intuitive 6th grader (I think) I had a suspicion the "mysterious writing" on the walls of that cave was Braille, but I didn't know for sure. I copied down the Braille alphabet from a library book at school and went home to try it out. I remember being completely ecstatic when I found that the writing on the walls translated perfectly. I was pretty proud of myself after catching all of the regis without a guide ^_^

Because the Braille told you about them.

I think that using the Braille and Pokemon idea was amazing. It was probably the hardest way to catch a legendary Pokemon. Then once you actually opened the chamber you had to do more braille. It made me feel smart once I figured it all out. :3 I wish that the system would of been brought back for the later generations; but obviously not. \: Hopefully they'll make it even better in the remakes. Probably a small puzzle including the touchscreen.

I loved the methods of catching legendaries, though it took me a while to find out that the writing was Braille. I prefer puzzles and a bit of adventure rather than running up to a waiting Pokemon in some random cave anyway.

It sure beats trying to find wandering Pokemon any day...

Imo the fact that it was braille was pretty obvious, esp if you pay attention to the signs next to public bathrooms.. then it was simply a matter of googling what the heck it meant. and I think I was like 10 when I first played it.. Imo the puzzle was stupid though I hate looking for a rare pokemon that I'm not even going to use except for the fact I need it for 3 other rare pokemon -.-

I think it was a good challenge, I mean for once a legendary isn't sitting there waiting to get captured! I hope they have more puzzles or even battles to get to a legendary Pokemon. I think that it will make them more special in my opinion...

Braille is good. That's why you should and must never ever look down on visually-handicapped people. /off-topic XD But the method of it was utterly ingenious, took me a while to solve it cos I keep getting mixed up. =]

I feel that it's better to have something like these sort of 'quests' to be fulfilled. I mean, don't you get tired when you just walk over to where that Pokemon is standing, battle and then lob a ball and voila, catch a legendary? Certainly Pokemon of legends and might shouldn't be so easy. Any educated toddler could've figure the game! =o Personally, it was good of the games to work our minds a little. I hope they'd put more riddles next time or invent some interesting ways of encountering legendaries. =3

It was Brilliant. Such a genius challenge. Love it how you need to crack those codes, makes me feel like a Genuis :D

Its a good educational method too, I memorized some of its alphabet and I also use it to manage secret areas in my online server XD . People get psyched with the challenge.
It made the game more realistic to me too. I wanted to see more of it though or maybe a different kind of code...

I don't think I ever even bothered with these riddles. Might be because I first played RSE after Pearl, and by then I had developped enough laziness required for not caring.

I loved the braille and the cryptic way you have to catch the Regi trio. That's why they're my favorite trio, actually. And I felt that that's how legends were meant to be caught. Not just...go in the dungeon and there it is. No no. Needed more substance than that really. I had fun deciphering the braille back then haha. I had the guide book though, but for an 11 year old, you feel like an archaeologist or something. idk I had a wild imagination.

I both liked and hated the Braille thing for the RSE legendaries. The idea itself of the ruins and the different language and all was neat - fun to explore and figure out, and gave you more to do! But I'm always puzzled and annoyed about one aspect of it, which was the need of the Relicanth (which 'somewhat' fits I suppose as it's ancient, but...) and... a wailord? Really? What did that have to do with the Regis?

Actually, I was very small when I first got to the Braille part and me and my friend wanted to figure it out, and I remembered that in the little manual you get with the game (R/S/E), there was a Braille chart! And since we were young we didn't really know how to work with computers, so we just figured it out and that was a lot of fun.

I think I was like 9 when I caught the Regis, it was good fun because me and my friends didn't know anything about looking up things on the internet and so we always discover things from each other. We knew about the place but didn't know about the Regis or how to do it, so one day I checked in my dictionary and found braille in it and it matched the dots in the game.. And after decrypting for a while we found the Regis, we felt like we were the first ones to do it until we found Google.

Wait, that was Braille?! Never would have guessed, I had to use google (just thought it was some random dots, even though that would be really dumb of them).

To be honest, my friends just told me about the wailord and relicanth but I basically just winged it from there, took me hours to find the caves, get in and catch all 3. Back then, I wish I knew that it was actually braille (Just thought it was something completely random =D)

I thought it was braile, but never confirmed it. I liked the idea of making something of a mental challenge to access the legends. I mean for me, as the son of a woman who hates computers and especially games as she feels that they encourage not stretching your mind and just "sitting there twiddling their thumbs", it was a great power to the "it does actually help you learn stuff" arguament. My only annoyance with it was the need for a Wailord, which I never found on the one route that you can find it wild, and it took more time than I liked to level it up. Good job my friend gave me his emerald which happened to have one, saved a lot of time and frustration ;)

Yeah I had to look it up to get the Regis. I mean I was so young then and I didn't really understand it at the time. I think using new ways to get legendaries. Such as even needing the Regis to get Regig and so on
