...Repetition, repetition, it'll drive you insane!

I find that this is a common occurence: once something gets popular, suddenly it's everywhere. Has the media ever ruined a song for you by over-playing it? Has a song become so popular that if you have to hear it one more time you might tear off your arm and throw it at the radio just to make it stop (apparently forgetting in your blind rage that the same effect could be achieved without such self-mutilation by simply turning the radio off)?

What songs have the media made you grow to hate?

EDIT: I made this thread at 12:41 AM, and looking back on it with a more sober and alert mind, I realise how oddly-written and wordy it is lol. So, to simplify:

What songs are you sick to death of hearing?

Well I haven't had a song ruined from over playing it before but I never got to listen to Crazy by Gnarls Barkley because every time it came on the radio someone turned it off saying they were sick of hearing it xD

Any song by Adele, she's too overrated and her latest album is on the brink of breaking a record set by Mariah Carey in 1994. Curse you Brits!

Every time I hear Adele, I change the channel immediately.

Also, any Michael Jackson song gets me on my nerves!

I also heard that a lot of people hate Crazy by Gnarls Barkley. So annoying that song is!

Oh dear, LMFAO's Party Rock Anthem and Champagne Showers really annoy me.
I've heard it a lot the past couple of weeks, and frankly the two people annoy me a lot.

But when I get tired of hearing a song and then come back to it after a while, it makes a welcomed re-initiation into my iTunes playlist :3 .

It's a good song actually, but unfortunately, the best songs get ruined by being in every movie, on every station, in every commercial, etc. ~_~ They played Crazy at a football game the other day and I was just like OMG THAT IS OLD STOP

What you said about why I find Adele annoying is because she's like "the queen of soul" and it's not that often that soul albums top charts plus she's way too overplayed.

So many of guys are also mentioning LMFAO, but I actually like their music.

There have been four that I've noticed a lot over the last few years; I'm not sure if anybody else did:

U2 - Vertigo
Coldplay - Viva La Vida
Youth Group - Forever Young
The Last Goodnight - Pictures of You

It's only the first one that I particularly minded, because I didn't like the song to begin with and it grated on me from the first time I heard it - but all four I think were WAY WAY overplayed. I think I heard them at least once on the radio on the car ride to or from school each day while they were going through their popularity peak.

ROLLING IN THE DEEEEE-EEEEEEE-EEEEEP

I mean, I love that song and I love Adele but I am so sick of hearing it on the radio, especially since she has other great singles but they just keep playing that one.

and idk about anyone else but I have slowly and inadvertently learned the lyrics to Love You Like a Love Song by Selena Gomez & the Scene because I keep hearing it EVERYWHERE.

AND I KEEP HITTIN' REPEATPEATPEATPEATPEAT. :(

Here in Australia everyone seems to love Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5. It really annoys how everyones like 'aww this song is awesome' and the radio plays it way too much. I mean sure it is a good song but people overplay it so much I am now annoyed when I hear it

You're my new best friend. Everybody loves this song but I honestly don't see the draw of it! And it's on the radio all the time.

How ironic, that song is playing right now here.

But for me:

Rolling in the Deep by Adele
Last Friday Night by Katy Perry
How to Love by Lil' Wayne
Good Life by OneRepublic
Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5 ft. Christina Aguilera
and until recently,
Gimme Everything Tonight by Pitbull, Ne-Yo, Afrojack, and Nayer. Some of those are strange, since I love OneRepublic, but they're played so... many... times....

True, some of those are great songs, but I've heard them so many times I hate them by now.

I so agree with Gimme Everything Tonight, not so much anymore but about half this year that was being played everywhere and everyone was always singing it. Its an alright song but after two weeks I was bored with it and moved on.

I remember those songs and that last one there is currently being used in a Canon cameras commercial.

I know some more songs that has been played excessively on radio.

I've even discovered some old-school songs given excessive amounts of airplay.

You Make Me Feel - Cobra Starship feat. Sabi

Change The Way You Kiss Me - Example

Several LMFAO songs - notably Party Rock Anthem, Champagne Showers and Sexy And I Know It.

Several Adele songs - notably Rolling In The Deep, Someone Like You and Set Fire To The Rain.

Hey Ya - Outkast

Push It - Salt N Pepa

Several Jason Derulo songs - notably Don't Wanna Go Home, It Girl and a few of his old stuff too.

Several Bruno Mars songs - notably Marry You and The Lazy Song.

Somebody That I Used To Know - Gotye feat. Kimbra (very popular song in Australia)

Several Rihanna songs - there are so many Rihanna songs getting excessive airplay that I cannot list them all.

Several Foo Fighters songs - same as above, so many airplay can't name the songs in question.

Several Beyonce songs - I find her annoying! Must be her voice or the fact she makes too many ballads.

Several Michael Jackson songs - he may have perished more than 2 years ago but his songs still get played excessively on radio, especially during Saturday nights when they have "party" programs. And as you may not know, I'm not a fan of dead musicians because I refer to this kind of music as "dead music".

Several Kylie Minogue songs - Yep, she is one of Australia's music icons so this means she gets played excessively on Australian radio. At least I like some of her songs, can't name all the songs in question as they are so overplayed in Australia.

Jumpstart - These Kids Wear Crowns (they may be new but this song annoys me to the max!)

Tonight - Enrique Iglesias (this is possibly the worst song he's ever done!)

Several Usher songs - he's a hip-hopper so that means lots of airplay. So many songs in this category can't list them.

Several David Guetta songs - notably Titanium, Little Bad Girl, Where Them Girls At and Without You. However, they do play some of his old stuff a lot in some occasions. I actually like his music though, you could just call me a David Guetta fan.

Promises - Nero (a new dubstep act from the UK, this song in my opinion I find being played too much)

Several Pink songs - she's one of the most successful pop singers to date plus she's a mother. No wonder she gets played excessively on most radio stations.

Several Eminem songs - he's another victim of the curse I call the "Hip-Hopper Gets Played Excessively Curse". So many songs I can't name them all.

Several Calvin Harris songs - notably Bounce and Feel So Close. Like Guetta, I'm also a Calvin Harris fan in some way. Although those two songs mentioned are newer stuff, some radio stations do play his old stuff a lot during Friday and Saturday night "party and dance music programs".

Every song of Pitbull. Here in Mexico, at least in my state, his songs are like the soundtrack of a common day. They have made me get to the point of stress at the moment I hear the voice of Pitbull.
Oh yes, Pitbull is a sufferer of that dreaded "Hip-Hopper Gets Played Excessively" curse.

Most of his songs I actually hated as much as I hate Wikileaks.

I thought I should come mention, to everyone that hated Crazy by Gnarls Barkley because of its excessive airplay, it actually made the top 10 (maybe 20, idr) for 100 Greatest Songs of the 2000's.

But...Mariah was overplayed too. Anyone remember 2005?

Another singer that I think is getting too much airplay on radio is Jessie J.

I absolutely hate Price Tag, due to B.O.B's guest vocals.

Nobody's Perfect is OK, but Domino can get a bit annoying.

I just think too many commercial radio stations where I live are obsessed with her.

Also, in Australia I think INXS is way too overplayed, especially their older stuff. Come on radio, Michael Hutchence died like, 14 years ago.

I'll also give a mention to Katy Perry.

And another song I think is getting played too much is Kryptonite by 3 Doors Down. I mean, that song is like nearly 9 years old.

I for one never thought 'Crazy' - or Cee Lo's 'F*ck You!' for that matter - was overplayed, but I think I'm in the minority in this one: in the UK, 'Crazy' was removed from distribution after 9 weeks for just dominating radio airplay... but that was done by Gnarls Barkley themselves, rather than because of 'audience outrage' or something similar. I support completely the addition of Crazy in the Rolling Stone list mentioned above, even if the contributors feel it fit to wax lyrical about Bob Dylan and the Beatles forever and ever and ever.

For me personally, I don't tend to listen to much contemporary music as I rarely listen to the radio. (Indeed, I only do so when I'm driving, and since my car is about 300 miles away currently, I don't do an awful lot of driving or radio listening.) One of the advantages of this is that it's hard for me to really hear 'overplayed' music: a blessing even. However, one song still seems to haunt me whenever I go out to crappy nightclubs: 'Mr Brightside' by The Killers. I HATE HATE HATE that song, but I'm the only person I know that does. Everyone else sings along like they're hearing it for the first time... it doesn't help that, for the most part, everyone is drunk off their asses whilst listening to it, but most people would probably admit to liking the song while sober, which is something I categorically cannot do.

I don't usually listen to the analog (non-internet) stations here, except when I'm in the car with my family or the computer's OFF.

I hate any of Nickelback's songs from Photograph onward. "If Everyone Cared" especially. (Odd, 'cause I have one of their albums from before both songs.
Also, anything by Daughtry... Chris' voice irritates the snot out of me!

And Taylor Swift... I can't stand how everyone classifies her as country. She is NOT, no, not even close!

Again, I try not to listen to the CHR (aka the pop) stations as I can't stand that garbage.

When I first heard Party Rock Anthem, it was so fresh and it wasn't popular back then. But when it became so popular, I hated it since it's getting overplayed in the radio as well as in MTV. :'x

Ah, and yes I could remember We Belong Together back in 2005, it was insane! But I wasn't annoyed about it, since I loved that song. :'3
