Well at the moment the government is trying to prevent people making pirate films, copy CDs/DVDs, downloading type of media mainly songs etc...
I was just wondering do you think it's that serious? The fact that more and more people are doing this and that celebrities/stars, music companies are losing money because people aren't buying their albums as a friend can just make a copy for them.
i think downloading music (etc) is a different story as i think it's kind of a silly idea in having to go to court if you download too much :\ ! i mean some people buy songs and they turn out to be totally rubbish and people waste their money away in doing this.

The government is trying to stop people from pirating movies and other things, but in truth, it's impossible to stop everybody. If they can't get them off the Internet, they'll just rent them and burn the discs. Plus, there's so many sites that deal with this and due to Internet Privacy Laws, if the government steaks many of the sites out, they could be in just as much trouble as the pirates would be. The law is so bendy-bendy that it is literally impossible to catch alot of these people.

And don't tell me that you saw a commercial saying it's illegal. We know it's illegal and there are fines for those that are caught, but nowadays, the only real way to catch someone doing it without violating the users' rights is for them to admit to it. And this is coming directly from one of my Networking Instructors.

Point is, no matter what the Government does, there's going to be ways to avoid paying $20 for a movie that may not even turn out to be very good in the first place anyway.

I pirate. I also buy legit.

I think of it as a fair trade off. They rip me off on one thing, I rip them off on the other.

Burning music does hamr the artist income alot. If they are alreay multi-millionares what will 99 cents mean to them that is like nothing to anyone.I only burn songs from multi-millionare artist becuase I know in the long run if I paid for these songs it is pcoket change to them. I will only buy Cds from artist I really like , Canadian artist, and artist that are not multi-millonares becuase the money will then actually not be nothing to the artist if they are not filthy rich.

Well if you look at it form my pount of view, its is wrong.
I being part of the media and all and having my own albums with my band and now a new album coming out soon, we look at it at this way, we only get payed for whatever we sell as well as the places get paid by what they sell. I also wouldn't like someone to make copies of my music which we put in most of our times recording, my first one took about six months since we were new and all, but still. There is a reason why copyright is supported by the goverment and its illegal to make pirating and all. It is just like stealing form the makers.

I agree. But I buy everything for underrated/overlooked bands and singers, because they aren't really rolling in the dough. :\

I pirate most of my computer programs though. Not really willing to spend hundreds of dollars on material that I could get for free.
