I found Clair (SoulSilver) to be a nightmare...
Kingdra used Hydro Pump!
Critical Hit!
Eevee fainted...
Kingdra used Hyper Beam!
Critical Hit!
Jolteon fainted...

Imagine that throughout the entire battle. Let's just say after I finally did beat her, I had to go to Game Stop to get my DS repaired...

I never had any trouble with any gym or E4 battles. I always just trained my type advantage pokemon a bit, fought them, if I lost, level up 6 levels, then fight them again, then we're moving on. I didn't think anyone could actually have trouble with Gyms. Or maybe I was just more laid back about the situations you would call nightmares...

I remember getting beaten half to death by Norman's Slaking in RSE. I don't remember exactly how I won but I think I won by luck.
Oh golly, Norman and his Slaking's. I always, always managed to lose to them first try, no matter how much I leveled up. Thank God it was made so much easier in Emerald.

Whitney also took some time to defeat, although sometimes she was quite easy, but she was mainly difficult... I suppose Normal-type gym leaders are inherently difficult :P

Tate and Liza were definitely the most difficult leaders, which lead to many nightmares :(... Their emerald team was very rage-inducing.

I remember getting defeated by Whitney so many times because of that stupid Miltank. I must have lost about 4 times.

Even a level 35 marshtomp and a team of top class pokemon in their 20s couldn't beat normans slaking i think in terms of hard gym leader pokemon, normans slaking would be at the very top, beating it was like climbing mount everest even fighting pokemon wern't that helpful... either that or i really sucked[' by the way i'm talking about emerald-- in ruby/saphire he was easier. after about literally 20 loses i went to that mount chimney forrest thing and trained so hard yet i still got owned in the ''rematch'' so then i decided to relentlessy pelt him with about 50 mud shot's whenever i got up to he's slaking that i managed to take out he's entire team, now that was an inspiring moment for me and from then on i just got my sister to do it[' and people who say that normans other pokemon where anything other then simple suck i mean they had good movesets but really where only there to make sure all your useless pokemon where outta the way for the ''showdown'' with slaking[sorry for my silvery attitude] if any one beg's to differ about normans erm... hardery THEN COME FOWARD!

Brock has always been hard for me to beat since I has Pokémon Yellow. Also Misty's Starmie was a pain. Norman and Whitney are also two of the ones I struggled the most with. I couldn't beat Miltank and it was very frustrating. And the only thing that made me win Norman's battle was that ability Truant, which saved my butt in the end.

That Clay guy in 5th gen was also hard, cause of Excadrill.

Both Brock and Misty were immensely troubling for anyone who chose Charmander in the first generation.
More recently, Clair in SoulSilver proved difficult with dragon pulse. One thing worth noting is that her dragons are of aquatic nature; I held on with a stockpiled Lanturn and threw out thunders and signal beams when I could. It was an arduous fight that required many lemonades and an ether, but I was quite elated to have won with an anglerfish about ten levels below anything she had.

To anyone having trouble with Whitney's Miltank, here's how I made it relatively easy: Go into Union Cave, find and capture an Onix, train it to at least level 20 and get the man in Ilex Forest to teach it headbutt. Ground-typing and a huge defence stat makes it practically immune to rollout.

I actually found Norman's Slaking pretty easy. All I did was spam Fly until it either died, or I was out of PP. Depending on my levels, I can take out a huge chunk of it's HP before it can even do a thing. Truant is so exploitable.

Whitney, on the other hand... unless I use a Geodude, she's a royal pain in the arse.
wel i can only assume the pokemon you had where like in their 40s

Clay isn't really that hard. My Dewott swept his whole team.

He's really easy with Water and Grass Pokemon.

Why would you assume that? I just fly during the attacking turn and attack when he's stuck doing nothing. You don't need pokemon in the 40s to do that. My Skarmory was in the low 20s.
wait is this emerald or ruby/saphire i mean cos in emerald by the time you get up to slaking most of your pkmn are dead

Oh crap, I'm an idiot. I remembered that fight completely wrong. Actually, now I can't remember HOW I beat him. I'll delete my posts. :/

Edit: NOW I remember what I did. I used Steel Wing to raise my Defense really high, so by the time I reached Slaking, it couldn't do much damage, and I was able to slowly whittle it down.

Norman was easy, well if you have Blaziken by then, anyway. xD I one shot all his Pokemon.

My biggest Gym problem has actually been Gardena, cause I had a Piplup starter and no Pokemon that could defeat Grass types.. in this playthrough, I'm almost at her gym, get ready Gardena, this time I have a Piplup with Ice beam and my starter is a Chimchar that has evolved into his second evo. >_<

Won't you tell me what you're thinking of?

If it's no, well I can go
