How many people in your extended family do you know? For the purposes of this thread, I'll define "extended family" as any member that isn't in your immediate family (mom, dad, and siblings). How often do you see these relatives? Or rather, how often are you in communication with them, as the case may be? Would you say your extended family is rather large, or rather small? How spread out is your family?

Discuss!:D

I see some of my extended family more than other members of my extended family, but I know a good bunch from each side of the family. On my mothers side I see one of my aunts and her siblings (my cousins) pretty frequently because they live in the same city as us. As for other relations on her side I know a pretty good chunk, but I rarely see many of them because they don't travel to the states. The one I probably see the most after my mom's sister is well.. my mom's other sister, who is the youngest of them, since she lives in Colorado and her fiance lives here in Florida so I see her at least once a year.

As for those on my dad's family I don't see them too often either, since they all basically live on the west coast. We try to at least see my Grandparents every year though, whether we travel to Arizona and see them (and some of the other family), or they come and travel over here and we usually go to an amusement part. I don't think I know as much of the extended family on my dad's side than my mom's side. What'd you expect though, my mom's hispanic </stereotype>.

I don't really see that as "extended" family. I see my aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents all the time. I consider stuff like my dad's uncle or my grandparents siblings as "extended" and I see them maybe once a year depending on which side of the family we're talking about. Mom's side is far less often.

The family on my mother's side are descendants of Irish Catholics, so I lots of extended family members there.
My father's side isn't as big, but his three sisters just adds to my list of cousins.

I have two uncles and five or six aunts.
But I don't know much about my parents cousins, which also seem to be numerous.

I have only one grandparent left. :/

I keep in contact with about 7 of my cousins.
Most of those are from my home town in California.
The rest of my cousins are kind of spread out across the US.

I have 3 direct nephews who I live with.
Some of my second cousins are like nieces and nephews to me.

Some of my brother-in-law's family lives in Arizona too.

I mostly keep in contact with my back in my home town and here in Arizona.
I see my brother-in-law's family more often now, though.
But the advent of the telephone, automobiles, and the internet makes it a little better. ;p

I consider my extended family my dad's side of the family since I see my mom's side almost every Saturday. I see my aunts and uncles on my dad's side maybe twice a year, and I only see the whole extended family if someone gets married or dies.
This has been a post.

On my father's side, we have my grandparents, one aunt and one uncle, their partners and children.

On my mother's side, the grandparents are dead so there is just her sister (with her husband and kids) and her brother and his wife.

Out of all that family, the only people we speak to is my uncle and his wife on my mother's side, and one of my cousins and his wife (also on Mum's side). That was confusing and babbly lol

But yeah, the rest of the family has managed to estrange themselves from us in one way or another, so we are in separate feuds with all of them lol.

I see both sets of grandparents at least once a week when I'm back home. Aunts, uncles and cousins I'll normally see one or two times a year. I guess I don't really consider these 'extended family'... but that's what it's defined as for the purpose of this thread, I guess.

In terms of 'actual' extended family (second cousins and their progeny), I used to see them once a year in August. They live in Scotland and the rest of my family (i.e. those mentioned above) live in Northern England, so we'd go to the border for a day and just hang out and such. Now that my second cousins once removed (so, my dad's cousins' kids) are all off at uni, that becomes more problematic. Haven't seen them in about two years now. I have a few of them added on Facebook, but we don't really talk all that much.

I have quite a lot of extended family. xD

On my mom's side, I know both my grandparents. On my grandmothers side, I know or knew my great grandmother, great grandfather, great great aunt, two great aunts, two great uncles, four aunts and four uncles (who are technically cousins, but old enough to basically be aunts and uncles. xD), and between them, nine cousins.

On my grandfather's side, I know his parents. That's pretty much it. >__>

Now my dad's side, I know my grandfather and his female friend, and my dad's three sisters and their families. That is three aunts, three uncles, nine cousins.

I typically see my mom's side of the family more, just because they are more interconnected, and we see each other all the time, plus, my great aunt and uncle, and great grandmother, and my grandmother all live here in the same town, so I see them quite often. ^__^

We've only had one family reunion in my family.

My mom didn't have any siblings, and my dad has a sister. We see them every so often, but they live 6 hours away, so not much haha.

But yeah. My dad's mother actually has 11 sisters, 12 sisters all together. So one year, the families of all the sisters went to a reunion. It was fun, but also kind of awkward since it's the only one we'd ever done and no one really... knew each other at all. Meeting people I'm loosely related to was actually really exciting though :3c

The only members of my extended family I see on a somewhat regular basis is my aunt and uncle on my mom's side. Other than that, I don't really see my extended family members much. There are a few who we do visit about twice a year but other than that... nope, not much at all. I've only been to a handful of family reunions and they've all been super awkward because I don't know anyone too well. :x

Spot-on title, my friend.

Our extended family is really, really long and well known between our relatives. I know my aunt's cousins and their own aunt, for example. (wut) And that is because once per year, at Easter, we throw one heck of a reunion! About 40 relatives from our extended families gather together, and we get a loooong feast that lasts for hours and hours. It's something like a Greek custom that we have always done in order to 'stick together'.

I like.
This is my December . . .

I don't see extended family often, usually only when on vacation. However I keep in contact with a few family members (those around my age) via Facebook, but I haven't seen them in person in years. We just live too far away.

Last family reunion I went to, I didn't know anyone besides immediate family. I had no idea who these people were, lol
