The alarm clock went off waking Conner from his sleep. He hit the snooze button and got up from his bed. He then took a shower and went down stairs. “Today’s the day!” said Conner happily upon seeing his mother. “Yes it is,” said Martha; “here, breakfast is ready.” Conner had a hot breakfast cooked by his mother. It was the perfect start to a day that most people looked forward to their whole lives.
It however filled Conner with dread when he remembered what he had planned. He was going to kill Seth as soon as he got his Charmander, and he’d go to jail. “Something wrong?” asked Martha as Conner finished his meal. “No, nothing’s wrong,” Conner responded. “Good,” she said, “I have some gifts for you to open.” Conner smiled and sat down on the fireplace.
Martha brought in four wrapped gifts for Conner to open. Conner wished that his dad could’ve been here but he started work at five o’clock. Conner opened one gift after another satisfied with what he had gotten. Among his gifts were trainer clothes, a trainer’s bag, and a pair of running shoes all in red and black. He also got a black Pokenav. Red and black were his favorite colors.
“Mom, thank you very much,” said Conner overcome with emotion. It tore him up inside thinking about the look that would be on his mother’s face when she found out that her baby had been taken to prison. Then his stoniness returned to him when he remembered his mission. Seth was a sociopath, and a sub human blight on the planet. If Conner had to go to jail, he would gladly go to get rid of Seth.
“Alright honey, go and put them on and come back so I can take a picture of you in them,” said Martha. Conner nodded his head and went into the bathroom. He took one look at himself in the mirror and didn’t like what he saw. He just broke down crying. His conscience was weighing down on him. He had dreamed of becoming champion his whole life, and now he would throw it all away just to kill one ***hole.
After a bit of crying, he regained his composure and wiped his tears away. He was having second thoughts about killing Seth, and decided that the day would bring what the day would bring.
Conner put on his trainer clothes, went outside, and stood in front of one of his family’s cars to get his picture taken. Afterwards his mother approached him and embraced him. “I’m so proud of you honey,” she said. This hurt Conner even more and he lost it in front of his mother crying. She held him in her arms as they both sat in front of the car.
“It’s okay Conner, we all leave home one day,” said Martha. “You just need to be strong, and always keep Jesus in your heart,” she continued. Jesus, thought Conner. That was the answer! What would Jesus do? He pondered this and started walking down the driveway turning around one last time.
“I’m off to become a Pokémon Master!” proclaimed Conner before turning around and heading to Oak’s lab. “You will be,” said Martha holding back tears.
Conner had a new lease on life as he walked through the town searching for Oak’s lab. Finally, he found it. It was a house with a red roof, and a windmill sitting on top of a hill. Conner walked through the gate and headed up the trail. He stopped to look up at the Dodrio that was on top of the house.
He smiled at it and then entered the lab. The lab was pretty cool. It had a white floor, bookshelves, and complicated machinery near the wall. Conner walked to the end of the room where this 6’3 behemoth of a man with a mess of brown hair, a mustache and beard, and blue eyes was talking to two officer Jennies. One Jenny looked like the normal twenty five year old Jenny, and the other looked about Conner’s age. Conner sat back and listened to the older Jenny speak to the man.
“Do you know of any enemies that Professor Oak may have had?” asked the Jenny. “No, everyone loved him,” responded the man. The younger Jenny spotted Conner and walked up to him. “Are you here for your first Pokémon?” she asked? “Yes ma’am,” responded Conner politely. “Sorry, you’ll have to wait, Professor Oak’s been kidnapped!” she said. “What!” responded Conner surprised. “Don’t worry,” said the giant man butting in; “I’m his intern; I’ll give you your first Pokémon.”
Conner nodded and went into the back room with the big guy. “You stay here little sister and watch the lab,” said the older Jenny to the younger one. “Where are you going?” asked the younger Jenny. “To handle big girl stuff,” said the older Jenny, “the culprit maybe dangerous and you’re too young to handle it.” The younger Jenny got an angry look on her face. “Yeah alright, go handle your ‘big girl’ stuff,” she muttered.
The big guy went over to a machine and grabbed three small Poke balls and enlarged them. “Your choices are Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle,” he said sending out the three Pokémon. Conner gazed in amazement at the three Pokémon. Bulbasaur looked kind of like a small herbivorous dinosaur with a bulb on its back. Seeing it immediately brought Amber to mind; he wondered how she had fared last night with Seth. He didn’t see an outcome that could have ended well.
He then looked at Squirtle. It was a bipedal blue turtle. It was cool but Conner wanted the third Pokémon. Charmander was a bipedal orange lizard with a flame at the tip of its tail. “I want Charmander,” said Conner. Immediately the Charmander ran up to Conner and jumped into his arms letting out a cute cry as it did so.
The big man smiled when he did this and gave Conner Charmander’s Poke ball. “Would you like to give a nickname to your Charmander?” he asked. “His name is Reznar,” said Conner. The Charmander cried happily at hearing its name. “Alright, here’s your Pokedex and five Poke balls for your journey,” said the big guy giving Conner the things that he’d need on his journey.
“Thank you sir, is there anything I can do to help with the Professor Oak situation?” asked Conner. The man sighed, “I’m afraid not; sad thing is that I know where he is.” Conner raised an eyebrow. “Did you tell the cops?” he asked. “No, it wouldn’t work out well for them,” he responded. “How so?” asked Conner curious.
“Alright, this might sound a little crazy to you, but I’ve always been different from other people,” started the man. “Uh huh,” said Conner not liking where this was going. “I started out as an empath with the ability to sense other people’s emotions, and the ability to make them feel mine. I also had the ability to see ghosts,” he continued.
Wow, this guy works for a scientist, thought Conner. “Yeah, I do work for a scientist,” responded the guy. Conner was surprised. “As I was saying, I practiced other forms of psychic ability with my sister, but failed miserably. It wasn’t until I trained at the Gym in Saffron city that I was able to move on to other stuff. Sabrina was my personal mentor, and under her, I learned the true extent of my powers.
My newest pastime is learning to see the future. I can only see shadows and glimpses of possible futures. However, there are certain things that are certain, and one of those is the death of those officers if they face these criminals.” He said.
“Heh, alright, I’m kind of neutral in my belief in psychic ability. When I think of this I keep coming back to the true story in the bible about Paul, and the fortune teller. Basically, there was a woman in the town that Paul was passing through that was demon possessed. She was a slave girl if I recall correctly. Her masters made money off of her ability to tell the future. When Paul cast the demon out, she lost the ability to tell the future and her masters ran her out of town. Obviously here, she could tell the future with some degree of accuracy. But she was possessed by a demon. For all I know, you could just be some whack job. But giving you the benefit of the doubt, can you read my future?” responded Conner.
The man took his hand and looked into Conner’s future. He got a splitting headache and got on his knees. “I-I see nothing but the blood of the wicked,” he said. Conner smiled, “I believe you, now let’s go rescue Professor Oak,” said Conner; “by the way, what’s your name?” “My name is David,” responded the man.
I believe in Jesus Christ. If you do too, and aren't scared to admit it, then put this in your signature.
