As soon as they become curious. I plan to work my entire life with computers - for me the internet is intertwined heavily with my life so to keep my kids away from it at all would be both hypocritical of me and really difficult due to curiosity. Of course, I wouldn't just let them loose on the computer, I would start them out sitting on my lap, looking at the websites for kids, and then later letting them get on the computer for short periods of time, gradually getting longer as they get older.

Plus imo the internet is never going to get less prevalent, only more, so it will become an even larger part of our lives and it'll be near impossible to keep children away from.

I would probably show them it exists early, but largely use the outside world to entertain them, trying to make them physically active. Most likely, I'd play certain online games with them and teach them lesson on internet safety when they demonstrate a patience with computers. I'd keep them off certain sites via a web filter until they're legally old enough to view them. and if they're smart enough to figure out how to bypass it then kudos to them

I'd expose my kids to the internet incredibly early. I think nothing would smarten them up faster or raise them better than the Internet could. It'd certainly be a better parent than I would ever be lol

Pretty young, but not too young. Internet is just going to become a bigger part of everyone's lives, so it's going to become difficult to keep them away from it. However, I want them to have at least somewhat of an enjoyable childhood away from the internet, whether it's outside, or simply inside doing something else, such as reading or drawing. I played outside quite a bit before I started using the internet a lot, so I want my children to do the same.

Whenever this hypothetical spawn is ready and mature enough to understand the risks as well as the rewards of the internet. If I have a crappy kid, it'll probably be longer than if I have a well-mannered one... although there's bound to be some form of peer pressure from school chums and the like. That'll probably end up quickening the process, to be honest.

You'd be a great parent! :( Go have babies. Not mine.

But uh, yeah probably around 18 imo. Honestly, I was not mature enough to be on the Internet until 18 aaand if they have my genes, yeah. :x If not, idk, 13 as youngest?

Fairly early... like age 8 or something. There is so much to learn from the internet and it's a great resource. But there will be the caveat that I'll be supervising internet time and using site blockers till at least 15... maybe later if I don't think my kid can handle the scary things out there.

Not bothered really. Parental blocks are fun and will be deployed on 4chan, until he is 16... 30 if it is a girl.

This made me lol. xDDDD

Anyways, for my children, they will be exposed early on, like, say, 10 or so, but only with my supervision and HEAVY use of parental controls. xD At about 13 I will probably let them go a little more free, maybe join a forum somewhere that I feel is safe. Probably depending on how mature I think they are at that age. Once they hit fifteen, I will probably let them be pretty much free. Still use parental controls, just not as strict.

I choose fifteen as the let them loose age because that is when I personally was allowed free and unrestricted access to the internet, so it just feels right to me. :P

Probably at the age of 12, or any age at which the child itself is getting too interested (I assumed it happens around the age of 12, yeah). As Mr Cat Dog already mentioned, though, there would still be factors to consider. But either way, as long as it's done, I wouldn't feel like using parental controls on it.
This is my December . . .

Is "intersposed" supposed to be a portmanteau of "exposed" and "internet"? I'm just curious. I thought it was a typo at first.

I would expose a kid very early, probably. Not to the entire internet, of course, but to those parts of it which are appropriate for a kid at that age (whatever that age is). It's not like I'd be able to hide it or anything. It's part of people's daily lives so I'm sure most kids have some idea and some exposure to it early on anyway.

Probably quite early. Even for school work, you need the internet quite a lot now. It would seem weird to limit it to an age when they'd probably have to do projects and stuff, and not being internet-savvey could limit the sorts of information they could find.

Not bothered really. Parental blocks are fun and will be deployed on 4chan, until he is 16... 30 if it is a girl.

4chan's going to be my family computer's homepage.

I think 10 is good. Start them off with parental control, obviously.. or let them browse only certain sites like neopets and pokemon global link and things. Though I rather them learn other computer skills than just surfing the net.. might be more helpful to them in the long run.

Depends on the kid. I was definitely ready for the internet by age 11 (when I first got into it big time) but I probably could have been ready for it even earlier, especially if the interesting sites available today were available then. :P

So anywhere between 8-12, I think. I'd definitely sit with them for a while, impose a few restrictions, and make sure they knew the dangers of the internet but I'd probably just do what my parents did and leave them to their own devices fairly early. I mean, I turned out okay.... right?
