Yeah. Random question I came up with last night. When you're typing to someone over the internet, do you picture them in your head typing back to you? If you don't know what they look like, do you guess what they'd look like instead?

Also, as a more general question, do you ever visualise other people going about their everyday lives?

Sometimes, when I'm really bored, or for curiosities sake. Sometimes I would think and imagine what any of my friends or family could be doing right now, or I could be imagining what one of my online friends are doing. If I know what they look like, I'll obviously imagine them how they are, but if I don't know, then I would take a guess, and until I see what they look like, that's how they'll look in my head. Of course, whenever I try to figure out what they look like in my head, if I had imagined what they would look like, and they so happened to have eventually shown like, most likely I was completely wrong about how they look. Not necessarily a bad thing, though! I also sometimes imagine how they would look like if I say, drew them in my chibitastic art form that I have.

Very rarely, to both.

When I'm talking to someone over the internet, if I know what they look like already then sometimes I do get flashes of images where I imagine them typing away, but that's rare. If I've just met someone then I might wonder what they look like, but I don't always get any solid mental image of them that's reoccurring. PC wise, so many people have flashy themes around here, that I define them by those at times, and don't wonder much about their actual looks. -shrug-

Also, sometimes if I wonder what someone's up to, I might imagine them going about their day, but like the above.. it's rare. XD

Well I always speak without thinking so I'd always visualize what would the person's reaction be before sending the message lol

As for offline, nope. xD;

If I don't know what someone looks like, I always try and imagine what they'd look like in my head. For instance, before I went stalking and saw pictures of sammi-san, I always imagined her to look somewhat like her avatar... and I imagined Kaori to be a red-headed Irish girl of about 18 or 19...

When I do know what they look like, I do tend to picture them sitting at their computer typing. But the thing is, I always imagine them in the same clothes they were wearing in whatever picture I saw of them lol.

If I've seen that person's pic somewhere on here (like the picture thread in OC in particular), sometimes I imagine them typing back to me, but for the most part, no. And yes, sometimes I see the people here do their everyday lives.

Everyone is their avatar, unless I already know what they look like when I'm talking to them. So yeah, Drew is Zelos, PlatinumDude is a Gallade, etc. I used to think of Klippy as Sazh from FF13 because of the avatar he had when we started talking, lmao. And Penatrait is a deteriorating baby face. Not really, he's actually a good looking Canadian. Like I said, this is usually for people that I have never seen a picture of, or have only seen a picture of them maybe a few times. lol

Absolutely, I always picture an image in my head of the person I'm talking to based on their name and the way they talk and just the overall impression I get from them, it goes automatically. Sometimes I can't really picture something though and then that person is also kind of vague in my head, like I can't really make up what they are like.

No to the second question, definitely XD

As for the first one, I typically don't unless I know what they look like. Though even some people I still imagine them looking like something different despite having seen pics of them XD;

Ha, for me it's always the avatar I visualize. I've seen plenty of images of people here, and yet I can never see them as a person. It's their avatar instead. For instance, I can't think of Shining Raichu as anything but a Raichu, hahaha. :p

Cannot think of the last time I imagined someone sitting at their computer without the conversation turning to that specific topic. Usually my mind is either in whatever conversation we're having or somewhere else entirely.

As for question number two, nope. My mind is too busy either worrying about my life or stuck in my writing.

I always feel weird, like, imagining a person sitting in front of a monitor typing away to me, lol. I always think of people as doing dynamic things, like walking while talking or something like that, so that's typically what I visualize. xD That sounds so weird now that I say it. >__>

No, I do not visualize people going about their daily routines nor do I visualize someone typing to me. The only time things like that pops in is like "omg I could see you doing that!!!" moments. But I am good at guessing how someone I know online dresses and wears their hair and how they generally look.

I automatically visualize someone who is typing to me due to their username, theme and by the way they type. I also imagine what their reaction may or may not be to a message that I have sent them. I do not visualize over users doing their daily routines though.

Unless I've seen a picture of them enough times to equate a username with said photo, I normally associate people with just their avatars. This is especially the case if said avatar has been used by the person for a while now. While I assume that everyone here has a relatively fulfilling offline life, I don't really tend to visualise it, for whatever reason.

I don't recall visualizing others. :( I sometimes associate someone with their avatar a little too much, and when they change, I see them as a different person. XD;

No, because I have no way of knowing what the person (or people) that I'm talking to looks like (unless they post it on the forums and/or they're my real life friends), nor have I thought of any questions like this.

Do you picture them in your head typing back to you?
Sometimes I get to caught up in their personality and how the chat I don't really picture them. I guess the point where I start to picture them is when we get close enough to add each other on Facebook but even then I still rarely visualise them even through the facebook photos I've seen.

Also, as a more general question, do you ever visualise other people going about their everyday lives?
Not really, I've never really thought of that heh.
