I agree that when you live long enough, you eventually stop caring about most things. BUT, I doubt you'd become a hero if you lived long enough. You'd be bitter and lonely, having witnessed many deaths. You usually wouldn't be a hero. You'd be more likely to be broken than toughened (sorta goes like this; soft -> toughened -> broken).

So I transferred all my legendary Pokémon onto Alpha Sapphire. I've got several boxes of 'em. In fact, I've got all of them, which is great since I'm aiming for a living dex, except... Groudon. Surprisingly. I've managed to not have it since Ruby (in which it got killed off in a freak trade accident). I could try to get it on my half-finished, sort-of abandoned SoulSilver file, but by golly, I don't know if I can be assed to grind for the Red battle.

What do now.

228976. I might have a spare Groudon somewhere in one of my files, Stickles.

The question is which damn game it's on. And then I'd have to dig my 4th and 5th gen games out of storage (packed 'em away since I haven't been playing them much at all).

Also, being at work makes it hard to dig for my games.

Shiny hunting requires patience. Something of which I have none :P

That'd be really cool of you. I put up one of my Articuno on GTS hoping that'd do the job, so you might not even have to check.

I mean, Articuno's expendable. I've got three, and I could easily get two more from the games in which I haven't caught it yet. The muppets over at GTS seem to want a one of my Arceus though, which is silly. Groudon ain't worth that much mates, 'specially when the most recent games happen to be in Hoenn.

Pokestick, good times.

Yeah, ever done one?
Actually, no. the ideas of 1) not having control of what Pokémon I get, and 2) having to release my mon if RNG psyducks me over have never really appealed to me.

I got a shiny Groudon! You're cool, GTS person. You're cool.

Well I'd really recommend it. It's an immersive experience.

For me, I'm a huge fan of Permadeath, both for the player and for the Pokemon, because you put more value in things you otherwise wouldn't. In the main games, if you lose a Pokemon, it's fainted, no big deal. When you lose a Pokemon in a nuzlocke, it's absolutely heartbreaking, especially when you've spent a lot of time with them. The RNG is part of what makes this investment so real. When you're in a desperate situation and you crit or...say, your favorite Pokemon survives a crit...Poki, I promise that'll be the most memorable event you've had in a Pokemon game.

The "not choosing your Pokemon" part is two parts genius because A. it gets you to use Pokemon you wouldn't otherwise use. ProJared's runs are the greatest examples of "Hate to see you come but hate to see you go". Not only will you use them, but you'll also like them. I didn't like Sawk, I thought its design was one of the worse Gen 5 ones. But when he lost all of his brethren and i had to take on an entire cave (with Psychic types and Hawluchas mixed in) alone with him, I found new respect. REALLY hurt to see him go.

The B is that it makes the game harder. You don't get choice, you have to earn choice. Seriously, as a mechanic, this is by far the smartest as far as nuzlocking's concerned.

---

Eh...it's just super fun. It's smart from a design perspective and you really put more of yourself into your Pokemon and your character. That's all I wanted to say.

I sold both of my Gen 3 games after I beat them (which was 10 years ago when I made very different choices). That in mind, I kept some of my Pokemon. Namely, Charizard, Pikachu, and...a Mudkip, I believe. Well, the Mudkip was from an Emerald that wasn't mine (since I'd already sold my Emerald), but Charizard and Pikachu were mine from start to finish. And Zap/Mol/Cuno.

fuuuuuuuuun times.

228988. That's impressive. I got the urge to re-play Sapphire with an imported team raised from eggs, so I cleared that out of anything of worth and restarted it, so that's my only game from that gen on its second file.

Only Pokemon games I own on their original files are Platinum and my unbeaten Alpha Sapphire. I have the Pokemon Bank to thank for that- if not, I'd never have nuzlocked X. Several times, I have many boxes filled with failed nuzlocke Pokemon. Managed to accidentally find a shiny Fletchling as my first encounter in one of them, so that was cool.

My First File Silver Pokemon are on my Pokemon Stadium 2. Good call, because the battery's starting to die on me. And my Red/Blue/Yellow versions are all on second+ runs, but that's because when I was young me and my brother would play the games over a lot. Ah, memories.

Pokestick, good times.

Well, there was only Ruby and Firered. I've never had a legitimate copy of Emerald.

I probably got my fix since my brother restarted his Sapphire a lot (sometimes by mistake), and we had these bootleg Emerald cartridges from some vacation that reset themselves every time we reached the E4. I tried twice. So that's three hoenn playthroughs, two of which I typically don't count since it's not the real game.

And I still have barely any experience with the emerald post-game.

My Silver is long dead. I did pretty much all you could in that game, though. Got great nostalgia for Johto.

Ah, I see.

When I hear things like that, it makes me seem like a crotchety old man, but I suppose that's why I have such a colorful opinion of FRLG.

Though I like to think I'm not nostalgia biased. Can't really test that, though, but I can at least say I'm not early generation biased. My favorite Pokemon's Espurr, after all.

And I like Klefki <.< >.>

Whenever y'all bring up a discussion about Pokemon, it makes me wonder why I even spend my time here, since I barely even do Pokemon at all anymore.

PC is like food, a necessity. Its taste ultimately doesn't matter; that it provides sustenance does.

I don't know, Akibangarang. You're catching and training all of us. You make us battle for fun and profit. I think you might be the one most interested in pokemon here.
