Update on Ultimate Blue Monocolor Challenge.

Final Update (#3) on HeartGold.

  • Went to the Battle Frontier and got lots of BP for Seed Bomb and some TMs, then sailed to Kanto.
  • Did the Power Plant quest first, then defeated the Kanto gym leaders in order. Blue was the toughest fight as usual.
  • Grinded on the Elite Four and Gym Leader Pokégear rematches to get everyone to L70.
  • EV trained everyone a little bit, then finalized movesets for the fight against Red.
  • While I was doing that, I ran into a *SHINY* Wooper, which I caught and named Violet.
  • Used my Rare Candies to get everyone to L73, then scaled Mt. Silver and arrived at the peak to battle Red.
  • Here's a video and play-by-play of the battle:

For my 900th post, guess i’ll claim the first completed Gen VI Mono-Color challenge! Here we go.

Y Red Mono-Color Challenge - Final Update

Spoiler:
Last time we saved the world from Team Flare. So I went through Route 18 to Couriway Town.

I beat Sycamore, he was pretty easy since Cheesy did more than half to Blastoise with Grass Knot and lived his Aqua Tail, then Ranch took care of his Charizard with Rock Tomb followed by Crunch. So I got a few nice items in Couriway, then went to Route 19 where I battled some trainers, then the rivals on the bridge. Shauna I swept with Jalapeño after +6 Attack, Tierno wasn’t anything hard either since I had type advantages, and Trevor got unlucky (his Aerodactyl missed against Cheesy twice with Supersonic).

Then I arrived in Snowbelle City, and went through Route 20 (ugh, least favorite place in the game) and met Wulfric at the Pokémon Village.

I also caught a Jigglypuff that I traded for the Bisharp, Pierce. Great to have since it gains boosted EXP. Then it was Gym time! The trainers had a bit of crazy stuff but nothing really significant. Despite being rather lower leveled, I decided to take on the Gym Leader.

Abomasnow was OHKOed by Flamethrower, Avalugg somehow lived Flamethrower but only used Curse and was 2HKOed as he healed, then Cryogonal was faster and confused me, so I brought in Jalapeño, survived a hit and killed him in one hit with Megahorn.

There was my team after the Gym fight. Despite that, I went to Route 21 and battled some interesting trainers, then got some TMs I can only access with Waterfall, like Earthquake and Rock Slide.

Victory Road time! Some of these trainers were pretty crazy since their levels were way higher than mine, but others weren’t too terrible.

Just so I could have some backup in case they were needed, I caught a Druddigon in Victory Road named Asiago and an Electrode in the Lost Hotel named Sours. Druddigon was Level 59, which was by far my highest level at the time, but Electrode was only 38, though I caught it just in case I needed something for Siebold.

And I had to fight Calem. Meowstic was downed by Ranch, Greninja was slammed in one High Jump Kick from Kung Pao despite a nine level disadvantage, Altaria was 2HKOed by Calamari’s Ice Beam (since he used Confide twice), then I brought in Bleu Cheese against Absol and used Shell Smash as he just used Swords Dance, then I OHKOed both that and Flareon with X-Scissor and Rock Slide respectively.

When I got this far, my 3DS’ battery was in the red, haha. Anyway, these last few trainers weren’t too bad, but the last one had an annoying Umbreon that Jalapeño had to come in and slam. Then we made it to the Pokémon League! I ran around, thinking about who to use, and went to Terminus Cave, and Routes 19 and 20 to do some training.

I decided to have Cheesy, Jalapeño, Cookie Crumb, Calamari, Bleu Cheese and Pierce as my team going in. I got them all to Level 59 as I thought that would be sufficient enough. Once that was done, I went into the Elite Four’s castle!

I decided to do Siebold first because I wasn’t exactly excited to battle him with what I had, so I just wanted to get him out of the way.

First I started with Calamari, who did more than half with Energy Ball against Clawitzer while his Dragon Pulse did around 2/3 my health. Then the Quick Claw activated and I killed him.
Then came Gyarados, and the Quick Claw activated there too and Charge Beam did more than half before he killed me with Earthquake. I brought out Cookie Crumb, and Earthquake did less than half to me before I killed him with Rock Slide.
Cookie Crumb was faster than Barbaracle and barely survived his Cross Chop with 9 HP, while Earthquake did just enough for a 2HKO.
Finally, Starmie killed Cookie Crumb, but I brought in Pierce, survived his Surf, paralyzed him with Thunder Wave just to be safe, and killed him in one hit with Night Slash.

Drasna:

This was interesting. I used Calm Mind with Cheesy against Dragalge, who then did less than half with Surf, before OHKOing her with Psyshock.
Then Altaria missed with Sing and was 2HKOed by Psyshock as well.
Noivern knocked me low with Air Slash, but I got a critical hit Psychic that almost killed her. I switched to Calamari as she healed, then got ANOTHER Quick Claw, allowing me to kill her with Ice Beam.
Lastly, Druddigon, who took less than half with Ice Beam before phasing me out with Dragon Tail. Bleu Cheese was dragged out and I used Shell Smash, then she missed with Dragon Tail and I finished her with X-Scissor. Flawless win right there.

Malva:

Pyroar just used Noble Roar twice in a row against Calamari. Easy 2HKO with Surf.
For Talonflame, I switched in Cookie Crumb. She did pathetic damage with two hits of Brave Bird. I easily killed her with Rock Slide.
Torkoal was slammed in one hit by Head Smash, which was pretty awesome given how defensive she is, she was higher leveled and I didn’t even have the Hard Stone backing.
Chandelure killed Cookie Crumb, but I brought in Bleu Cheese, and I don’t remember what she did (I think she used Confide) then I used Shell Smash and killed her with Rock Slide.

Wikstrom:

I decided to start with Jalapeño, since she hadn’t gotten a chance to fight all Elite Four and I wanted to make sure my favorite Pokémon on the team did. I set up a Swords Dance against Klefki as he used Torment and Spikes, then OHKOed him with a critical hit Earthquake (which I don’t know if it mattered since I had the Soft Sand, making it 120 power).
Probopass was flinched with Rock Slide then slammed by Earthquake.
Scizor took less than half from Rock Slide, got a critical hit Iron Head to knock me to 12 HP, then killed me with Bullet Punch, but Cheesy killed him with Flamethrower.
For Aegislash I used Substitute to bait him into Blade forme, then killed him with Flamethrower.

Diantha:

First was Hawlucha. I had Cheesy out, and she used Poison Jab for 1/4 my health, but I killed her in one hit with Psychic.
After that was Tyrantrum. I used Light Screen and she killed me with Head Smash. I then brought out Pierce, who managed to flinch her with Iron Head. As she healed, I used Swords Dance then killed her in one hit with Iron Head.
Goodra came in next, and unfortunately hit with Focus Blast and killed Pierce. I brought in Bleu Cheese, and she used Muddy Water which did like 3/4 and lowered my accuracy while I used Shell Smash, then HIT with Rock Slide and flinched her. Whoa! I then hit with X-Scissor and killed her.
Then came Aurorus, who I hit with Rock Slide and killed in one hit.
Next up was Gourgeist. Unfortunately I missed against her twice in a row and she killed me with two hits of Phantom Force while I was weakened (Bleu Cheese had Leftovers, so she was gaining health gradually in between turns). I then brought in Jalapeño, and she used Trick-or-Treat while I used Swords Dance. I almost killed her with Megahorn, and she used Phantom Force. I didn’t want to risk being OHKOed since I was part Ghost-type, so I brought in Cookie Crumb who took it for less than 1/4 like a boss. Then she healed, and I 2HKOed her with Crunch, the second hit being after she used Phantom Force again.
Lastly, Gardevoir. She killed Cookie Crumb with Moonblast and then OHKOed Calamari with Thunderbolt, leaving me with just Jalapeño. I’m like, ah man, this is it. I used Poison Jab…and got a critical hit, which killed her in one hit. :D I have no idea if I needed it or not (I had the Poison Barb backing for a 20% boost), but I still welcome it.

AZ:
Didn't have pictures here, but Calamari swept his team pretty much. I survived two hits of Sigilyph’s Psychic with 14 HP and 2HKOed him with Ice Beam, while Torkoal and Golurk died to Surf.

So here’s my final team, in reverse order of when I obtained them:

Update on Ultimate Blue Monocolor Challenge.

Update #2 on Emerald.

  • Beat the rest of the trainers on Route 116, then defeated May before hitching a ride to Dewford Town.
  • Went through Granite Cave and found Steven, then took on the gym.
  • Brawly was tough as I was underleveled and Swift was not strong enough, so a team effort was required here.
  • Directly after the battle, Lagoon evolved into Marshtomp!
  • Went to Slateport City and defeated all the trainers on the beach, then foiled Team Aqua's plans in the museum.
  • Went north to Route 110 and defeated May easily enough, then arrived in Mauville City.
  • Tried mixing records with a Sapphire save to try and get a Surskit swarm to appear, but gave up on that idea.
  • Trained up my team on the trainers around Mauville City, and Titan, Tuba, and Swift evolved into Metang, Loudred, and Swellow!
  • Took on the gym and defeated Wattson easily, mostly with Lagoon's Mud Shot.
  • I am now saved in Mauville City.

I'm sad that I need to make a double post here after a month of inactivity. Challengers where art thou?!?

Update on Ultimate Blue Monocolor Challenge.

Update #3 on Emerald.

  • Went north from Mauville City through Fiery Cave to Fallarbor Town, then continued on to Meteor Falls.
  • Circled back through Rusturf Tunnel to Mauville again, then headed up Mt. Chimney to defeated Team Magma and Maxie.
  • That done, I hopped down to Lavaridge Town, where I took on the gym, and Flannery was no match for Lagoon.
  • Got the Go-Goggles from May and explored the desert, then made my way back to Petalburg City to challenge the gym.
  • Norman was tough as usual with his Slaking, but a team effort defeated him easily enough.
  • Got the Surf HM and taught it to Lagoon, and we took a nice ride on the water to the Abandoned Ship and on to Slateport City.
  • Did the New Mauville sidequest, then headed over to Route 119 to get to Fortree City.
  • Along the way there, Lagoon evolved into Swampert!
  • Defeated Team Aqua at the Weather Institute, then beat May easily, mostly with Swift, who I then taught Fly to.
  • Arrived in Fortree City, then found Steven, who gave me the Devon Scope so I could get into the gym.
  • Winona was a complete pushover, falling to a Titan Rollout sweep.
  • I am now saved on Route 120.

OK, I'm gonna take on this challenge, for the glory of the Olive Kappa fraternity!

Username: OliveCopper
Color: Red
Game: White 2
Ultimate?: No

This is gonna be tough, as there are no Red Pokémon in the Unova Dex that can learn Surf that are available before the seventh badge, in which Surf is necessary.

Also if a Pokemon evolves into a Pokemon into a different color, and then evolves back to the target color, how should that be handled?

It's all about the final evolution, just try to evolve it as soon as you can. :) Glad to see a new face in here, good luck!

Also, as for a Surfing Pokémon that is Red, you could hack in a Corphish egg, as it is part of the Unova Dex for some reason, and since it isn't available until the postgame, it is thus allowed per the rules on hacking in this challenge. {:3} It's up to you whether to do so or not, HM slaves are your friends if not!

OK, took the initiative and started the save file, since I don't know how to hack in an egg in a White 2 Rom, but I do need that Corphish/Crawdaunt. I promise I'll upload a bigger update once someone tells me how.

Game Start!
-Started the game, and met Hugh.
-Recieved Tepig from Bianca, nicknamed it "Teppy".
-Defeated Hugh and his Oshawott.
-Purchased 10 Pokeballs at the PokéMart in Aspertia City.

Spoiler:

Teppy (Tepig Lv. 6)
Ability: Blaze
Moves: Tackle, Tail Whip

Also, since Whirlipede is purple, I can't evolve the soon-to-catch Venipede until Level 29, right?

I pretty sure you could have just used pokegen on your save to create an egg with corpfish.

Edit: I finished up to the first badge so I'm making an update

Update 1:
- Choose Charmender as my starter named him Sriracha
- As I left the lab I won battle assigned a LAMEO (VBA messed up the screen shot)
- Usual beginning stuff that I don't want to talk about
- Got to Pewter after burning more then enough bugs
- Went back to have another battle with LAMEO
- Did a small grinding session to get to lvl 16 so Sriracha can evolve
- Brock was a little bit easier then expected Sriracha scored an OHKO crit on the Geodude and 4HKO on the Onix after an attack boost
- Got a nice pair of running shoes (Why can't we run without them) (Also why do we have to wait until after the first badge to get them dumb scriptwriters)

So I thought about it a bit, and I decided, let's turn this into an Ultimate, why not.

Username: Stargazer (Was formerly Crackle)
Color: Red
Game: Fire Red, Soul Silver, Ruby, Platinum, Y - Haven't decided what Unova game i'll play yet.
Ultimate: Yes

Once i'm done both my X Wedlocke and my Favorites Challenge, i'll get on this.

Update to Pokemon White 2 Mono-Red Run.

-Pokegen'd myself a Corphish egg.
-Defeated a Lv. 4 Wild Patrat to get Teppy to Level 7.
-Defeated the first few Trainers on Route 20.
-Defeated Hugh in Floccessy Ranch.
-Defeated the Janitor and Lass in Floccessy Ranch.
-Rescued the lost Herdier.
-Grinded Teppy to Level 12.
-Defeated the Schoolkids in Alder's House.
-Recieve the Medal Box from a strange man.
-Alder informed me that Aspertia Gym's got a new Gym Leader.
-Recieve Oran Berries from Alder.
-Defeated the Aspertia Gym Trainers.
-Lost to Cheren on the first battle, that dog...
-Rematched Cheren and single handedly won!
-Bianca gave me a C-Gear
-Bianca updated the PokéDex, repeditively explaining it, annoying me a lot.
-Defeated Hiker Jerome.
-Searched the Dark Grass for a Venipede.
-Successfully found and caught one, and nicknamed "Pokeymanz"!
-So what? It's a Poison-type, and my gut has a habit on nicknaming Poison-types "Pokeymanz".
-Got into the eyeview of all Trainers on Route 20.
-Roxie barks insults at her dad, then gets fed up, bolting over to her gym.
-The constant dying of Pokeymanz became a running gag.
-Beside that, I continued grinding in the Virbank Complex.
-Defeated the Virbank Gym in one try.
-Took a detour to PokeStar Studios.
-Was forched to watch "Pop Roxie"(Roxie's dad)'s debut movie.
-The movie got bad reviews, Roxie was right. If your daughter means something, you must listen to her.
-Showed the old coot how its done, by making my debut.
-The movie became a ginourmous success all around the world.
-However, since watching it was optional, I didn't do it.
-Confronted with Team Plasma in Virbank City.
-They get away, and Roxie rewards me with the Cut HM.
-The egg hatched into a Corphish.
-Once hatched, the Corphish unfortunately had no moves. Fixed it in Pokegen afterward.
-Even gave it the egg move "Metal Claw" for good measure.
-Teppy slammed down that thug girl on Route 20.
-Team Plasma escapes to Castelia City.
-Coprhish was weak, couldn't harm a firefly, so I went on with the grinding session.

Spoiler:

Team

Teppy (Pignite Lv. 21)
Ability: Blaze
Moves: Arm Thrust, Defense Curl, Flame Charge, Odor Sleuth

Pokeymanz (Venipede Lv. 19)
Ability: Swarm
Moves: Pursuit, Rollout, Poison Tail, Screech

Lox (Corphish Lv. 15)
Ability: Hyper Cutter
Moves: Bubble, Metal Claw, Harden, Vicegrip

Currently disappointed with Corphish (Lox), it can't even harm a firefly. It has an Adamant nature, with good physical attack and lame special attack, rendering Bubble pretty much a Water-type Constrict. Lox is garbage until it gets to a higher level that the next weakest on the team, Venipede (Pokeymanz). I'm gonna need to grind Pokeymanz a lot before getting this milestone.

Speaking of which, when Pokeymanz evolves into Whirlipede, it becomes Purple, therefore, it's gonna have to stay a Venipede until Level 29, in which I can immediately evolve it into a Scolipede (which returns to Red) at Level 30. Or is evolving it at Level 22 (the normal evolution level) fine?

To answer your question, yes, it can become Whirlipede whenever, even if it isn't your specific color. I was told as such when I asked regarding a certain other evolution, so i'm pretty sure it'd work here.

I had some more time to kill today so I completed some more of this challenge.

Update 2:
- Since the last update I got through Mount.Moon while there I caught a Paras that I named Cordecep
- I took the Helix Fossil from some greedy nerd (Not like it matters...)
- Outside a guy volunteered to teach Sriracha Mega Punch to witch I gladly got rid of scratch
- In Cerulean I battled LAMEO again as I left he gave me the Lame checker
- After looking over my current party I decided it could use another member and a ton of training before Misty
- After looking for an Oddish on Route 24 I caught one but I couldn't be creative so I called it Nuptup (It's not creative, a simple search on youtube will prove it)
I do know Oddish is classified as blue but Vileplume is Red so I'm going to use it. It will be evolved upon getting to Celadon.
- Got the S.S Ticket from Bill
- On the way to the S.S Anne Nuptup evolved
- Beat LAMEO aboard the S.S Anne and received HM 01 Cut from the Captain witch Cordecep graciously learned
- Went back to Cerulean and Nuptup sucked the life out of Misty
- After teaching Sriracha how to dig a perfect hole Lt.Surge got lost in the maze holes

Current Team:

Nature: Naughty
Moves: Ember, Mega Punch, Brick Break, Dig

Nature: Brave
Moves: Absorb, Acid, Sleep Powder, Poison Power

Nature: Timid
Moves: Scratch, Stun Spore, Cut

Sorry to nitpick, but Gloom is of the Blue Color. Read the official pokedex colors on bulbapedia here. Official colors, I remind you.
First of all did you even read what I wrote saying that Oddish and Gloom are both blue but Vileplume is red and that as soon as I get a leaf stone it will evolve. Plus from what I understood it is the final evolution that counts not the current one.
Completed:

FR 8/8 / G 16/16 / S 8/8 / Plt 8/8 / W2 8/8
Solo Challenge:
  • Nidoking (Fire Red and Heart Gold)
  • Gengar (Yellow)
  • Togepi (Platinum)
  • Delibird (X)

Well, it sounds like previous posters got it right, but yeah, just confirming that only the color of the final evolution is what matters here, just do your best to evolve it sooner rather than later.

I started a Blue Mono-Color in Johto while playing the B-I-N-G-O challenge but never completed it. Would you be alright with me continuing it here. I'll summarize what happened so far if approved.

If so, here's my sign-up:

Username: Orrefan8888
Color: Blue
Game: SoulSilver
Ultimate: Yes but I don't know what games yet.
Sorry to repost the question, but I never got an answer and the question is now buried. Will this be alright jdthebud?

EDIT:
I'm definitely going for Ultimate using the following games: Blue, SoulSilver, Ruby, Pearl, White 2, and Y. SoulSilver would be the current one that I'm asking about.
