Ultimate Monocolor Challenge (Purple)

Black 2; Complete

First challenge completed in a while. This means I've completed an ultimate through the first five gens! I'll probably be playing through X next, but that may not happen for a week or two.

Picked Snivy, and proceeded through the game until I caught a Purrloin at Route 19. Named him "Rocket".
With some effort, Rocket took down Cheren's team. Lots of lucky Fury Swipes!
After getting to Virbank Complex, I caught a Koffing. I nicknamed her "Gamesphere".
Defeated Roxie pretty easily with Gamesphere.
Battled against Team Plasma and got to Castelia City.
While battling trainers in the Battle Company, Rocket evolved into a Liepard.
Caught a Zubat in the Castelia Sewers, named him "Hibiki".
Caught an Eevee in the Castelia Garden, named him "San".
While at the Castelia Gym, Hibiki evolved into a Golbat.
Burgh was easy with Hibiki.
Through lots of bicycle riding and grooming, San's happiness increased high enough to allow him to evolve into an Espeon.
Went to Route 16 and caught a Gothita, named her "Angelica".
While doing some training on Route 16, Hibiki evolved into a Crobat.
Defeated Elesa pretty easily with San.
While training on Route 6, Angelica evolved into a Gothorita.
Gamesphere finally evolved into a Weezing in Chargestone Cave.
Defeated Skyla.
Angelica evolved into a Gothitelle after the battle with Hugh.
Defeated Drayden.
Scared off some Team Plasma members.
Defeated Marlon.
Boarded the Plasma Frigate a few times and defeated Zinzolin, the Shadow Triad, Colress, Ghetsis, etc.
Finally got to Victory Road!
After making sure my party was adequately leveled, I took on the E4.
Finally, I defeated Iris!

Ultimate Purple Monocolor Challenge (White 2) First and FINAL Update (ULTIMATE COMPLETE!)

This run was surprisingly easy, yet still really fun. The happiness grinding I had to do when I evolved Dmitri made Return really strong for everybody by mid-game, and I was overleveled for the E4 just by like, playing the game. The only annoying part of the whole run was training up a Purrloin to take on the very first gym. Psyched to have another Ultimate under my belt though : D

P.S. Acrobatics Crobat is OP broken. No joke.

Alright, so here's one leg of my Ultimate that I started in 2014, continued with Alpha Sapphire in 2015, and didn't do anything with in 2016:

Username: Swagroar (formerly Pendraflare)
Color: Blue
Game: Black 2
Single or Ultimate?: Ultimate - As I said, already did X and Platinum in 2014, and Alpha Sapphire in 2015. Will have Soul Silver, Moon and Leaf Green (MAYBE Blue) after this.
Other rules for this round: Challenge Mode, Set battle style, will not use bag items in battle outside of Poké Balls
Spoiler:
So I started the game, fired up Challenge Mode, chose the guy and named him Blue. I picked Oshawott, and named him Ashigatana (the Japanese name of the weapon that Oshawott’s evolution line uses). I took on Hugh’s Level 6 Snivy and won because he used Leer while I was at 6 HP. (I used Tail Whip after my first Tackle did roughly 1/4 his health.) I did all the opening stuff, made my way to Floccesy Ranch, and caught three Pokémon - a Riolu named Emanate (how original), an Azurill named Bouncy, and a Psyduck named Dopey. I can guarantee that Azurill will not be on my final team, however.

Anyway, I didn’t train much at all before going in against Hugh, but I still beat him pretty easily, as Bouncy got his Snivy’s Defense to -3, he didn’t use Vine Whip against Dopey and I got him into the red (maybe he didn’t have it?), and Emanate finished him with Quick Attack. I went through the ranch and saved the owner’s Herdier, did a bit of training, took on Alder’s students, then got my team to Level 11 (except Bouncy). After beating the two trainers, it was time to take on Cheren!

I began with Bouncy against Patrat, and he used Work Up, but I counteracted with Charm (him: -1 Attack and +1 Sp Atk). That was the deal for the next five turns (him: -6 Attack and +6 Sp Atk). I then switched to Ashigatana as he used Bite for a pathetic 2 HP, then I took a Tackle for three, but Water Gun was looking to do 1/4 his health. Same thing for the next two turns. Then he healed and I got him right above half. Two more exchanges between Tackle and Water Gun and he was finished, and I was just short of activating Oran Berry.
Lillipup was next. I wasted no time in switching back to Bouncy, and he used Work Up, because of course he did (him: +1 Attack and Sp Atk). He used it again, but I counteracted with Charm (him: +2 Sp Atk). But then he just cut straight to the chase and used Tackle, which did over half, but my Oran Berry softened the blow before I used Charm again (him: -2 Attack, me: 23/32 HP). Then he used Work Up again but I counteracted with Charm, which was the deal for the next four turns (him: -6 Attack). His Tackle did 1/5 my health, but my Frustration did horribly (me: 17/32 HP, him: 9/10 or so HP). I switched to Dopey and took a light Tackle (me: 28/32 HP). He used Tackle, and I got in a Disable, keeping him from using it. But then he used Bite…which caused me to flinch, then he killed me with a critical hit. I went to Ashigatana, took a Bite, ate the Oran Berry, used Water Gun for a decent hit, and I flinched before he was no longer disabled. That was a mistake. After another Tackle, I used Water Gun, and he ate his Oran Berry. Another Tackle knocked me below half, and so did my Water Gun. The next Tackle got me into Torrent range, but even then I couldn’t quite do the job. I finished him with the next hit, however.
Pidove was last. (Have I ever mentioned that I psyducking hate this critical music when it interrupts the epic fights?) He killed me with Quick Attack, then I went back to Bouncy, who was just under half dead from before. He used Work Up, but I counteracted with Charm, which went on for six turns (him: -6 Attack). Then right off the bat, he uses Quick Attack and kills me with a critical hit. Emanate was my last bet, and we both used Quick Attack and both barely did anything. We were speed tied, and after five turns I managed to finish him. Whew!

So I got the Balance Badge and TM83 for Work Up, along with the Xtransceiver and Return from Bianca. Now for Virbank City, and to get Riolu’s happiness up… By the Nine Hells…

The run was pretty straightforward/easy, but still fun. Avoided using a Dusk Stone on Truthguard because I preferred the statline on Doublade with Eviolte. Guarm didn't see a lot of play near the end, and Cenarius rarely got used at all, but oh well. Gorefiend was def the MVP of the Elite Four.

Excuse the double post, but I got bored and did a thing that's kinda seperate from an actual update.

I went ahead and made a list of the first available Pokemon for each color and each game. Others might find this helpful I believe. I think I got the idea from one of the older monotype threads that made a similar index.

Pokemon in red are only attainable after the second gym, meaning you'd be able to hack/trade in a mon as per the rules.

Note: These are the first available encounters. They aren't necessarily the only pokemon available to you in the early game (ex. in Pokemon Yellow, the first red pokemon you can get is the Magikarp sold by the guy on Route 3, while you'd probably be better off with a Paras which are available soon after in Mt. Moon).

Here it is in all its glory:

I found 2 errors in the list, both in relation to Rattata-A

SM Black: Remove Alolan Rattata. Ratatta is Purple, Raticate is Brown.
SM Purple: I was going to say you forgot Alolan Grimer in Hau'oli, but I also forgot about Rattata.

REGARDLESS...

Username: Decidueye
Color: Yellow
Game: Sun
Ultimate: No

Multiple Alolan forms (Persian, Ninetails, Chu, Eggs) are open, weather control (Ninetails?, Pelipper), a couple mons I've really wanted to use but never could (Mimikyu, Ribombee, Ninetails), Island Scan mons (Leavanny, Axew, CYNDAQUIL), And then a couple random Electrics (Jolteon, Electavire). I think the only one I missed from above was Hypno, who is ugly as hell. It will be a very un-yellow team tho.

Edit: I left a comment on the discussion page of the List of Pokemon by Color page of Bulbapedia and I think it pushed them to update the page for Gen VII. Seems like they agree with my reasoning.

Previous response:
Spoiler:
I based this off the actual in-game Pokedex on my copy of Moon for Alolan Rattata, which sorts both it and Raticate as black (and Alolan Grimer as green). All Bulbapedia says for them and most other Alolan forms is "other forms may have other colors". They also say this for Pokemon like Shellos/Gastrodon, so it's a bit ambiguous, but It'll ultimately be up to jdthebud as to how he wants to handle this if/when he updates the rules for Su/Mo. I figured this would be the most official way of handling it for now. Granted, I'm not very far into Moon, so seeing other choices they make as to how the Pokedex sorts by color might color my decision on the matter (pun totally intended). So, not so much an "error" but a decision I consciously made. Thanks for the feedback though! For now I added a note to my post explaining my reasoning.

Also thank you for posting since now I can post a new update without triple posting :3

Forever ago, long before this latest fervor of playing that I've had, I started a Blue run on my physical Platinum cartirdge so I could play it on the bus. I finally got around to finishing it recently!

Ultimate Blue Monocolor Challenge (Platinum) - First and FINAL Update

Spoiler:
It's kinda silly by how much the Blue runs seem to be the easiest. The only thing that gave me trouble in the run was of course Cynthia, and only because I couldn't be bothered to grind before the E4 (as always). For that fight, putting Light Screen on my Luxray was the best thing I have ever done in my lifetime. Empoleon's Quick Claw came in cluth as well, but if I could have gone back in time I probably would have chose a different Water type, since the weakness to Ground was fairly crippling. P.S. Garchomp is realreal strong.

Team:

Neptulon the Empoleon, Lv. 52 @ Quick Claw
Torrent
-Flash Cannon
-Swagger
-Surf
-Ice Beam

Thaddius the Luxray, Lv. 54 @ Razor Claw
Rivalry
-Return
-Light Screen
-Thunder Fang
-Crunch

Oregorger the Garchomp, Lv. 54 @ Dragon Fang
Sand Veil
-Rock Slide
-Earthquake
-Dragon Claw
-Brick Break

Cyanigosa the Altaria, Lv. 52 @ Soothe Bell (oops)
Natural Cure
-Dragon Claw
-Dragon Dance
-Draco Meteor
-Pluck

Algalon the Azelf, Lv. 52 @ Spell Tag
Levitate
-Psychic
-Reflect
-Shadow Ball
-Flamethrower

I've decided that when playing Sun and Moon, the in-game Pokedex color is what you use to guide your team, especially when in comes to Alolan Forms. For previous generation games, if the Pokemon color has changed depending on the form, then you can use either the old color or the new color if you want, but if you choose to use it in the new color, you need to use the form that has the color. This will still allow older runs in the old color to qualify.

For example, in Generation IV, Wormadam used to be Gray, but now each Cloak form has a different color. You can use any form in a Gray Monocolor, or the Plant Cloak in a Green, Sandy Cloak in a Brown, and Trash Cloak in a Red.

A more freer example is Cherrim - it can now be used in either a Pink or a Purple Monocolor, whereas before it was limited to Pink only. This is because the battle conditions for the Pink form is very limiting (only in sunshine) and the original form is actually Purple anyway.

Now, if there are Mega Evolutions that have a different color than their base form, they still can't be used. Which was always the rule in the first place, but I just want to make sure that doesn't get lost in the shuffle. Mega Charizard X and Mega Audino are still the only ones that have this restriction.

In any case, feel free to ask me questions about qualifying Pokemon anytime.

EDIT: I misread

So I can't use Persian-A on my Monoyellow? Darn. That and AlolaTails were a large part of the reason I went yellow.

And on that note, here's an update on my game.

Update on Ultimate Purple Monocolor Challenge.

Update #3 on Platinum.
  • Started in Pastoria City. Defeated all the trainers around the city, and Slugglish and Twintails evolved.
  • Wake wasn't too difficult despite my lack of super effective moves and team weaknesses to Ice and Water.
  • The Galactic Bomb blew up, so I tracked down the culprit and got the SecretPotion from Cynthia.
  • Headed to Celstic Town, where I defeated Cyrus and got Surf.
  • Used Surf to do some water training, then went to Canalave City, where I defeated Barry again.
  • Took on the Gym, and Byron was a breeze with Acrobat's Earthquake.
  • Another bomb exploded after that, then I trained in the Iron Islands before defeating Team Galactic at the lakes.
  • Trudged through the snow to Snowpoint City, where I defeated Candice without too much trouble.
  • Fought Team Galactic in Veilstone City and used a Dusk Stone I found there to evolve Missy into Mismagius.
  • Then I defeated Cyrus at HQ before climbing Mt. Coronet to foil his plans with Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina.
  • Cyrus actually took a couple tries to beat in the Distortion World because I had to leave a slot for a Rock Climb slave.
  • After vanquishing Team Galactic once and for all, I was able to access Sunyshore City.
  • Volkner went down with all OHKOs to Acrobat's Earthquake, then I saved.
