What are some of the best live entertainments you've experienced? Be it a music concert/festival, a theatre production or stand-up comedy routine, a live-taping of a TV show/radio show/podcast, or anything else that I've probably missed out, talk about them here. (If you've been unlucky to go to some right stinkers, feel free to vent about how bad they were as well!)

The first one that comes to mind is when I saw Katy Perry live back in... 2010? She was just moving on from her faux-lesbian era and into her disgustingly over the top "Look! I can dress up in skimpy outfits that are designed to resemble confectionery and numerous other edible delights!" phase. Back then I ate it all up and enjoyed it very much, but nowadays I look back and wonder why I went at all. I paid nearly $150 for the ticket to go see her, I think. What a waste.

A more positive live entertainment thing as of late? Hmm. Probably a 7 Days comedy performance (it's a New Zealand thing) at a comedy gala i went to recently. Just as hilarious as they are usually on tv.

I've seen a variety of opera, plays and musicals; I couldn't possibly choose between them. I've made it a point to go to the theatre in London every time I could afford it; it's an incredible experience, even if I can't understand a word of it because it's in a foreign language...usually German. I haven't been for a couple of years now, but as soon as I get some income, I plan on changing that.

Although one of my favourite shows was a local production of the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta The Sorcerer. It was absolutely atrocious - the cast couldn't sing or act, on more than one occasion they forgot their lines, and the set itself was so amateur I could probably have done better myself - but it was so hilarious I couldn't help but laugh. They'd put some thought into adapting the script, and whilst it was delivered poorly, that was part of what made it so fantastic. xD

I've never been to any music concerts, though; the majority of bands I like either don't tour in this country at all or don't tour anywhere near me. I ALMOST got tickets to see Emilie Autumn once, but I was outbid, which was depressing.

One of the best things I've experienced was a concert I went to in Japan. Didn't really know the band before then, but it was only about $30 so I figured I might as well try. I came out such a big fan that I'm halfway making plans to go to Japan again just to see them live again. I've got some of their concerts on DVD, too. I like watching recorded concerts. There's a TV station that plays them pretty often. I've "seen" live performances of Mumford & Sons, The Who, and a few others I can't remember at the moment. Some people are better live.

I also saw another group in Japan and it was an awful experience. The sound system in the place must have been badly set up because I swear my ears were bleeding after ten minutes. It wasn't just loud, there was some kind of distortion or something that set my teeth on edge. I would have left it hadn't been snowing outside.

And I just remembered that I'm seeing Florence + the Machine in October. I have high expectations for that.

I saw Dream Theater on their 2011 North American tour. They're by far my favorite band, but they had a new drummer so I was pretty curious as to how good they were. Well, they were better that night than I believe they've been since the early 90s. Totally energized and having fun. It paid off for the crowd because we gave that energy right back.

Trivium opened for them and although I didn't like much before, they totally put on a good show and got everyone stoked for a good couple hours of music.

That was an expensive night. $80 for good seats... $70 in merch... and pitched in $20 for gas to my buddy. I regret nothing.
If you meet me, have some courtesy, have some sympathy, and some taste.
Use all your well-learned politesse, or I'll lay your soul to waste.

To answer my own question, I've only seeing one live concert, but it was a goody. Los Campesinos! played at this mid-sized club in north London a few years ago, and I went and had an amazing time! I attended with one of my best friends and his sister - also big fans of the band - and it was amazing to hear all the songs I knew and love but in a live context. The atmosphere was great, the music loud... and it wasn't in a field, so that was a big plus!

I might be seeing tUnE-yArDs next month, but I need to find someone to go with me; not sure if this is something that one goes to by oneself. Ah well...

The only concerts I have been to were American Idol tours...season 2 and season...5? Wanted to see Clay Aiken and Taylor Hicks respectively. Both seasons were won by someone from B-Ham, AL! Anyway, I remember enjoying the concerts only when it got to someone I liked, but it wasn't super fantastic. I wouldn't recommend an Idol tour unless you're a die hard fan of the series. I usually liked only one contestant and when there are 10 people in total performing, it's best to like them all or at least a majority.

And I just remembered that I'm seeing Florence + the Machine in October. I have high expectations for that.
I have seen Florence + the Machine live THREE Times. The first time, she wasn't a big deal yet... so it was in a tiny, tiny theatre... and was just amazing. The second time was at a festival when she performed in a massive amphitheatre and I was like... ages away and she was still epic. And the third time was last weekend when I saw her perform at the Sydney Opera House with an orchestra. Front row, centre. Also amazing. So yeah... you're in for something pretty epic with her. Literally one of the most amazing voices I have ever experienced.

Anyway, I have seen a LOT of live music. I've been to a lot of festivals, concerts, parties with bands etc.
A couple of stand outs were:

Emiliana Torrini - caught her at a three day fesitval in tasmania over new years a few years ago. She's got such a sweet stage presence, and was so generally excited to see so many people watching her. She's got an amazing voice.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs - ummm, anyone who knows anything about Karen O will probably understand why seeing her band live is such an amazing experience. She has an amazing voice... but mostly, she's a complete nutcase. At the festival I saw her at, she bought these giant blow up eyeballs which she rolled around the mosh. and that was the most normal thing she did.

Two Door Cinema Club- Crazy Irish band. Great music, can absolutely kill it live. Enough said.

I could go on a lot more, because I love going to festivals etc, but this is really long and I really doubt anyone cares all that much! hahahaa

Saw Linkin Park in concert last year. They were so good!

Also saw Kiss and Rush live in concert. They were both great. I actually have yet to attend a concert I didnt enjoy.

I also went to the Bamboozle Festival in NJ, where they showcased bands like The Story So Far, Foo Fighters, Bon Jovi, The Maine, and a ton more.
