Superpowers. We all love 'em, and we've likely all wished for at least one like flying, invisibility or super strength.

Did you ever stop to think about how they would ACTUALLY work once your wish came true?

Maybe you couldn't turn off your super strength, so you have to be extremely delicate just picking up your sandwich so you don't crush it, or you could ever so gently open your car door... and rip it off!

Then think of having to tolerate this superpower for the rest of your life, unable to get your wish taken back! We're not just talking about being a superhero 24/7 and trying to hide it, we're talking about how this superpower is adversely affecting your daily life.

The question here is: Can you think of the bad side to those superpowers you wished for?

I will be moving my account to Songbird over the course of immediately. The signature will stay as is for posterity and reference.

Intangibility, as awesome as it is, would be incredibly horrible to deal with.

You'd just sink through the ground and never return. I feel like you'd be stuck at the center of the earth until you died of dehydration or something <- way over-thinking things.

Also, breathing fire would be terrible if you couldn't "turn it of", so to speak. You'd be committed for a lifetime sentence of arson, if the police could reach you without being burnt to a crisp haha.

My Super power of choice would be shapeshifter.

What if you couldn't change yourself back, or if you get the other persons chemical mind set and it overwrites yours. Thats kind of scary to think of it.

However, I really wish I could gain this power T.T

I like the idea of invisibility.

Invisibility: You can't control when you go invisible, or a certain annoying trigger has to be flipped for you to go invisible (you have to be naked or something). Or you can't turn off the invisibility so while you could fight crime and such and never get caught by the villains, you're also doomed to a life of solitude since no one can ever see you.

The ability to fly has always been my go-to superpower for questions like these, but I can easily imagine it going completely wrong. Especially the first few times I'd try it. There'd probably be lots of injuries sustained just in the process of learning how the new superpower works, and even then, you've got things like the buffeting of the wind, not knowing if there's a limit on how much you can fly in any given time, the serious issue of crashing into birds/planes. And then the big one: being seen by the general public to be flying around everywhere and the resulting media attention to be thrown your way. That'd be the biggest hurdle that I'd have to face if I ever did, somehow, gain the ability to fly.

My dream superpower would be telekinesis, but after watching Carrie multiple times over the past few years I've learned that with that kind of power it's pretty much impossible to do anything without getting annoyed and sending a couple of dozen butcher knifes flying at someone.

Superpower, eh? Well, I've always wanted to fly and be able to use teleportation. I don't see any bad side to the former aside from being caught in a thunderstorm and crashing into something and whatnot; as for the latter... well, it'll increase my laziness for sure. I mean, if I can go to a different place within a snap of a finger, then I'd probably be preparing myself at the last minute. That would be a case of irresponsibility as well, I guess.

Flying, if you just floated, might mean you can't keep your feet on the ground. You're always hovering. Or if you have wings you might not be able to fold (?) them and they're always sticking out, getting caught on things. Not to mention molting.

And teleporting. Do you clothes come with you? Do your braces or fillings? What if you teleported only part of your body? And how do you control where you end up? The earth rotates at hundreds of miles an hour and flies through space at even faster speeds. How would you keep from teleporting into the vacuum of space or the center of the planet?

Yes. My superpower used to be invisibility and...well, we all know the OBVIOUS problems with that, don't we?

As for the one I want now...Time Traveler, I don't know. Possibly might "accidentally" travel in time without knowing it perhaps?

Teleportation...now everybody would be after me to get to Burger King or Walmart faster, so that's a definite no.

My dream power is telekinesis, hands down. I'm not going to go into why again, because I've done that before in multiple other threads haha - but the down side to all of these powers, it seems, comes from lack of control. If there's anything fiction tells us, it's that new powers are always hard to control at first, but you eventually learn how and then it becomes the most awesome thing ever.

The only other downside I can think of with something like telekinesis is that it has the potential to become so powerful that it could take over your live in ways you never thought possible. There's the expression "it's lonely at the top" because it could intimidate people and push them away.

My dream power is rather unorthodox, and it's the ability to create money at will. Only downside would be if all that created money was counted as taxable income; then I'd be giving a good chunk of it to the IRS. It still wouldn't convince me to change superpowers, though.

Otherwise, I really can't think of any downsides to it.
