No trouble with my rival, or catching the starting members of my team:
Caterpie lvl 3 BROTERFREE
and Weedle lvl 5 BRODRILL

Had a bit of a rough time leveling those guys to evolve into their respective cocoons, but with some backtracking to the pokemon center we eventually made it through Viridian forest.

Spent a little time grinding on Route two to get butterfree and beedrill. Feeling confident, I challenge Brock. Broterfree makes short work of geodude, and I switch to Brodrill when he switches to onix, hoping for a luck poison with a poison sting. and also to do a little extra damage before I switch butterfree back in to mop him up with confusion. Things start out good, Brodrill gets the luck poison hits 5 times with fury attack. next hit was a rock tomb, leaving Brodrill at 1 hp and -1 speed. Things did not improve from there, Brodrill gets taken out, and Broterfree gets OHKO'd by a crit Rock tomb.

Back to the lab again, Level up Brodrill once or twice to get him to twelve, and Broterfree to Thirteen where he learns poison powder.

Rechallenge Brock. use his geodude as setup fodder, hit it with a poison powder, then harden 6 times to become a impenetrable titan of a butterfly. Onix comes out. Broterfee hits with the poison powder and puts the big rock snake on the clock. He uses rock tomb, to which Broterfree just laughed and retaliated with a confusion. Luck confuse! Onix hits himself because he's so ashamed of the damge output on his rockslide, gets hit with a blast of psychic confusion, and finally succumbs to his poisoning.

Broterfree lvl 14
Brodrill lvl 12

The journey continues!

Expect an update tomorrow. No major class responsibilities getting in my way.
Great! And it still doesn't say who you need to beat to consider it complete in XY, but i'd imagine it's AZ (the last one you fight before the credits), yes? You enter the Hall of Fame after beating Diantha, but AZ should be a pushover after beating her (especially considering your Pokémon are healed upon entering the Hall of Fame), so I bet he's who you'll require beaten.

Alright I caught a Paras in mount moon, Nick named him CORYCEPS (after the Cordyceps fungus, a fungus that takes over insects) blasted my way through all the trainers there and thought it would be a good Idea to challenge nugget bridge to level up a little bit before the confrontation with Misty.
Totally forgot you need to battle your rival here. Pidgeotto did a number on CORYCEPS but BRODRILL got a super luck fury attack and hit it 5 times, with two crits! BROTERFREE and BRODRILL made short work of of the rest of his team.
After a well earned rest at the Cerulean pokemon center we went out to challenge Misty.

Upon starting the battle CORYCEPS hit Staryu with a bulletseed doing far less damage than I had hoped, but he continued to shrug off her attacks and managed to pull through. Starmie on the other hand was not willing to go down without a fight. A swift brought CORYCEPS down, but he went out in a blaze of self destructive glory with a perfect poison effect spore. BRODRILL and BROTERFREE were able to stall it out even with recover. That battle was down to the wire, though. Starmie fainted from poison while BROTERFREE had just 3 health remaining.

The Team so far:

Alright, using my new monotype format, I've completed Pokemon Yellow Version with only Electric types.

Events:
Spoiler:

-Started with Pikachu, named Zapper.
-Beat Blue in Oak's Lab.
-Beat Blue on Route 22 the first time.
-Grinded Pikachu to EXTREME levels to beat Brock.
-Beat Blue in Cerulean City.
-Got S. S. Ticket from Bill.
-Beat Misty with ease, considering I had Pikachu and she had Water types.
-Beat Blue on S. S. Anne.
-Skipped Lt. Surge for the time being, knowing he would be rather difficult.
-Caught a Magnemite on Route 10, named Magneto.
-Went through Rock Tunnel IN THE DARK! Do any of you know how frustrating that is? Also, I tried to use Rock Tunnel to level up Magneto, but it was frustrating because he kept dying.
-Received an Eevee in Celadon City, named Electro.
-Electro evolved through a Thunder Stone into Jolteon!
-Magneto evolved in Rocket Hideout, I think, into a Magneton.
-Beat Giovanni the first time under the Rocket Game Corner and got the Silph Scope.
-Beat Blue AGAIN in Pokemon Tower.
-Got Poke Flute from Mr. Fuji and killed both Snorlax.
-After reaching Fuchsia City, I went back and beat both Lt. Surge and Erika in Vermillion and Celadon, respectively.
-Somewhere along all of this, I hacked in an Electabuzz named Volta in compliance with rule 10.
-Beat Koga, and got Strength and Surf.
-Beat Blue again in the Silph Co. Building with ease.
-Chased the Rockets out of Saffron by beating their leader, Giovanni, again.
-Beat Sabrina with relative ease, thanks to Pin Missile.
-Surfed to Cinnabar using Kingler, an HM Slave.
-Beat Blaine while trying to use the opportunity to train Volta, but to no avail.

Ok, you might want to look away in this part.
My feelings toward Giovanni:
Spoiler:
[email protected]%KING GIOVANNI AND HIS RETARDED GROUND TYPES SUCK BALLS AND THEY CAN GO TO HELL AND gfhgjfgnvdijnvbjdkvnrjdfhgbneusighwbeubnjtrfnbtjfnvobdrnvlefgbdjlnhytc FWAAAAAHHH!!!!!!!!! DIE GIOVANNI!

Sorry about that. Yeah, I lost probably hundreds of times to Giovanni considering his Ground types. I was broke several times after losing. Eventually, along with the addition of Submission (lol), luck and karma played its part and I eventually beat him. Ok, now to continue.

-Beat Blue for what seemed to be the last time on Route 22.
-Went through Victory Road.
-In the end, Volta was still only near level 40.
-Used a unique strategy to get money before I fought them: I fought them. I would go through the first four and die on the fifth. I got about 12000 dollars from it each run.
-Finally, FINALLY, beat Blue after a couple of tries. I have a play-by-play that I will share.

Ugh.... This team's levels were very scattered. I just wish I had had a place to go and grind to a good, centered level for everyone. But, I had two Pokemon within 10 levels of each other, so this challenge is valid.

Alright, I think I'm gonna work on some other challenges, then come back to 1st Gen monotypes. See you guys later!

Wow, I haven't updated in forever. Starting college and moving out of my parents' basement and into my own apartment, time for Pokémon has been sparse. I've recently gotten around to finally do something about that Ground UMC I started, so here goes my first update.

Game: LeafGreen
Type: Ground
Badges: 3

I started the game off with Bulbasaur, fast-forwarded to just outside Mt. Moon, where I spent a fair bit of time soft resetting for decently-natured Nidoran, male as well as female. Caught an adamant Geodude inside Mt. Moon and happily carried on. While inside Mt. Moon, both my Nidoran evolved, and before I was even out of Mt. Moon, Nidoking and Nidoqueen were both part of my team. Caught a Sandshrew just outside Cerulean City and then tried to take on Misty. Quickly learned that I needed a bit of grinding first. Went across the nugget bridge to help Bill out, gained a couple levels on the way and barely managed to take out Misty second time around. Oh, and guess what I caught in Diglett's Cave and took down Lt. Surge with?

Here's my team so far:

Spoiler:

Graveler, lv. 27
Male // Adamant // Sturdy
- Rock Throw
- Defense Curl
- Magnitude
- Tackle

Sandslash, lv. 25
Male // Impish // Sand Veil
- Slash
- Defense Curl
- Sand-Attack
- Poison Sting

Nidoking, lv. 26
Male // Jolly // Poison Point
- Brick Break
- Thrash
- Focus Energy
- Peck

Dugtrio, lv. 28
Male // Adamant // Sand Veil
- Dig
- Growl
- Fury Swipes
- Mud-Slap

Nidoqueen, lv. 27
Female // Adamant // Poison Point
- Double Kick
- Thief
- Body Slam
- Poison Sting

> Made my way through Pokemon Tower with the use of Butter's Confusion and eventual Psybeam.
> Obtained the PokeFlute from Mr. Fuji
> Defeated the Snorlax on Route 12 and made my way further down to catch a Venonat, the last member of my team. Named her Duster.
> Trained Duster against the various trainers on the routes down to Fuchsia, the Cycling Path, and the Fighting Dojo, eventually evolving her into a Venomoth.
> Taught Duster Psychic so I won't have to wait until the fifties to have it.
> Battled the Fuchsia City Gym in what turned out to be a surprisingly difficult battle, mostly thanks to SelfDestruct and status effects. Everyone but Hugo was used, and taking down the enemy was largely a team effort.
> Headed back up to Saffron to take down Team Rocket again.
> The ensuing fight with Butt was eventful. Hugo took down both Pidgeot and Growlithe, but was felled by Gyrados' Dragon Rage before finishing him off. The pokemon was at very low health, though, and Butter managed to finish the job. Honey took down Kadabra with a single Twinneedle again, and Venusaur managed to put up a decent fight, putting Honey and Butter to sleep before being felled by their Aerial Ace and Psybeam.
> Giovanni was a considerably easier opponent, his Nidorino crumpling to Myconoid's Dig, his Rhyhorn falling to a single Bullet Seed, Kangaskahn falling to just one of Hugo's Brick Breaks and Nidoqueen only needing a few Psychics.

That is correct. You can also use your starter briefly afterward for the sake of getting low leveled Dragon-types up to a level where they can adequately fight.
This is incorrect. Once you have your type you are not to use your starter any more. The only time that it's okay to use a Pokemon not of your type is if you need to evolve a Pokemon to get him to learn HMs, and even then only training against wild Pokemon.

Complete!

Hall of Fame

I actually completed this a while ago but wasn't active on PC to post it when I had done it and have lost of the team.

Anyway, moving on to the next challenge...

Name: Pave Low
Type: Bug
Challenge: Single
Game: Emerald
Steelix is not legal in LeafGreen. I can't count this.

I just completed a Psychic type run. I didn't want to post here that I was going to do it cause when I do that it makes me less wanting to do it. So I just done it.

It was on my X game.
Metagross is not legal for this play through. It can only be obtained post game which means that someone traded it to you. This is why you're supposed to post, so I can catch this stuff during the play through.

Guys, stop putting spoilers from X and Y out in public. If you're gonna talk about anything to do with X and Y that a person may not know, and may not want to know, then put it in a spoiler. That's what they're for!. The challenge ends when the credits roll, and that is all I will say about it.

Fairy Monotype Challenge: Y

Beat the second gym surprisingly easy. When I first played this it was a real pain. About half way to the 3rd city with a gym.

> Went with Bill to the Sevii Islands, climbed Mt. Ember on One Island and killed Moltres just because I can.
> Saved Three Island from the biker menace and saved Lostelle from the "scary" Hypno. *cough*rapist*cough*
> Returned to Cinnibar Island and went for the Veridian City Gym
> Won easily against Giovanni, considering I had at least three counters to each of his pokemon.
> Battled Butt again, he's starting to get a little difficult, but the most dangerous members of his team are still easily defeated.
> Traversed Victory Road.
> Sold every single ™ I didn't use as well as every stat boosting drug and vendor trash item I had and bought WAY more healing items than I needed.
> Lorelei was challenging, but Duster and Hugo were both invaluable in the fight. (you're going to hear this a lot)
> Bruno went down fairly easily to my several grass and psychic type attacks, although he did get in a few very good hits with Rock Tomb.
> Agatha was uncharacteristically easy, only taking down Myconoid without much trouble. The constant use of confuse ray was more of a hassle than a massive detriment.
> …I hate Lance. By far THE most challenging and frustrating battle in the challenge thus far, if I never have to deal with this problem again I'll be a very happy girl. Hugo's Rock Slide and Duster's speed, defensive stats and Sleep Powder were an absolute GODSEND.
> Shockingly, Butt was the absolute easiest fight of the five. Pidgeot, Arcanine and Gyrados crumpled before Hugo's might, Rhydon was completely trashed by Myconoid, Alakazam was beaten in two hits by Honey (in Alakazam's defence, the longest he's lasted against the bee.) and Venusaur couldn't take a repeated barrage of Psychic from Duster. Championship won!
> I need help, I don't know how to take screen caps on the Mac version of VBA. I don't quite know how to screen cap on this period. Until I figure it out I can't provide a picture of the Hall of Fame…

My Final Team:

Myconoid

> Dig
> Spore
> Bullet Seed
> Slash

Butter

Level 50 Male Butterfree
> Silver Wind
> Solarbeam
> Toxic
> Psybeam

Honey

Level 50 Female Beedrill
> Brick Break

Level 52 Male Pinsir

Duster

Level 52 Female Venomoth
> Giga Drain
> Psychic
> Sleep Powder
> Leech Life

I think I will do Sapphire next, so that I can get the GBA era games over and done with. Not to mention I'm not overly fond of Gen 3, so I may as well get it over with now.

EDIT: I may as well put down the results of my first bit of playing on Sapphire.

> Picked the female avatar again, named myself Skitter.
> Went to see Brandon. (He's kind of a chauvinist pig…)
> Picked a Mudkip to save Prof. Birch.
> Nicknamed the Mudkip Liek
> Fought Brandon at Route 103 and triumphed.
> Obtained the Pokedex and caught a Wurmple, named her Dent.
> Evolved Dent into a Cascoon, then a Dustox.
> Found a Surskit and caught it, naming him Phantom.
> Raised Phantom until he and Dent were about equal in level.
> Helped Wally catch his Ralts.

My Current Team:

Dent

Level 12 Female Dustox
> Tackle

Psychic Update: 01
Badges 1/8

Spoiler:
I beat the 1st gym with Fennikin. I then went out to route 4 and got a female Ralts.
I then made my way to Lumiose city and picked Charmander and then stored both the starters. I then made my way to route 6 and captured two Espurrs one male and one female. I plan to use one as support and one as a sweeper as they are intended to do.

Ruby Update time
  • Off to a bad start right away with tons of paralysis owning me and getting beat by May as a result of said paralysis problems
  • Sumo Man survived against May's Marshtomp with 1 HP. Lucky
  • Owned May and got the Itemfinder
  • Reached Mauville City...after Supah Kick got paralyzed by another Minun >______>
  • Got the Rock Smash HM from the Rock Smash Man
  • Destroyed Wally
  • Dealt with even more paralysis problems in Mauville Gym
  • Absolutley destroyed Wattson
  • Made my way up to Fallarbor Town
  • Got to Meteor Falls and did the whole Team Magma thing
  • Returned to the Mt. Chimney area and dealt with all of Team Magma
  • Chose against catching a Machop since I want to try out Meditite instead when I can catch one later on.
  • Flannery is super smart. She had Sunny Day up from her second Slugma, and didn't use Overheat on Sumo Man at all and instead just chose to spam Body Slam. GG Flannery :P
  • Walked all the way back to Petalburg City and faced Norman, and he was actually challenging with the double Slaking action...and that sounds really wrong.
  • Hariyama can learn Surf? What is this, I don't even...
  • Used my amazing surfing Sumo Man and got over to Route 119
  • Made my way to the Weather Institute and owned all of the Team Magma grunts there
  • Took care of May again
  • Owned a Kecleon before getting the Devon Scope
  • To be honest, the only annoying part about Winona was her Pelliper. Other than that, the battle wasn't super bad despite my type weakness.
  • Made my way over to Mt. Pyre and caught Talah Rama the Meditite, so there's an Earthbound reference there for you :)
  • Owned May so I could buy some Ultra Balls and Hyper Potions for some Dive slave hunting
  • Got Rock Smash off of Supah Kick so I could teach him Aerial Ace
  • Taught Rock Smash to the Zigzagoon I caught after Petalburg Gym that I originally planned to use as a Surf slave.
  • Caught a Tentacool as a future Dive/Waterfall slave
  • Saved at Mt. Pyre

Ultimate Randomized Monotype Challenge Fire (SoulSilver)

Update #5

Spoiler:

- fought through the gym of Blackthorn City, because Clair kept crushing my team with her Gyarados I had to find another way to beat her
- caught a Swablu as Fly-Slave (I hope this is allowed) and flew to Goldenrod City to buy some TMs for my team
- taught Whisky Solar Beam to get rid of this darn Gyarados
- defeated Clair's Gyarados and the rest of her team
- went to Dragon's Den and passed the test to get the eigth and final badge
- got the Master Ball from Prof. Elm and continued my way to Kanto!
- defeated all the lousy trainers on Route 27 and 26 to finally enter Victory Road
- kicked my rival's ass yet again (and surprisingly quick!)
- after finishing Victory Road my Pokemon were still not strong enough, so I had to grind a little to get everyone ~Lv.50
- fought one of my hardest Elite Four runs with only four Fire-type Pokemon (and lots of legendaries in the enemies' team) but somehow managed to beat them all along with Lance
- ENTERED THE HALL OF FAME WITH ONLY FIRE-TYPES!! :D (and two slaves I forgot to put into the box beforehand ._.)

Hoping to get Ruby done this update
  • Dealt with the Mt. Pyre Team Magma Grunts
  • Caught a Wingull as a Fly slave
  • Returned to Slateport to witness Team Magma stealing the sub
  • Returned to Lilycove to take care of Team Magma at their hideout
  • Got the Master Ball for no reason :P
  • Got lost on the way to Mossdeep City, but I got to train up Talah Rama on the way
  • Since I got 2 Rare Candies from Zigzagoon's Pickup, I got Talah Rama evolved into a Medicham at last
  • And as a Medicham, he decimated Mossdeep City Gym. Even Tate and Liza weren't that bad, and I was dreading the battle with them.
  • Got Dive from Steven
  • Headed out for the Seafloor Cavern
  • The dreaded Strength puzzle D:
  • Owned Maxie once and for all
  • Maxie's an idiot
  • Headed to Sootopolis
  • Got owned by Groudon once, then went back in and destroyed him with a critical Blaze Kick from Supah Kick, now the killer of legendaries
  • Dealt with Wallace after taking care of the annoying gym puzzle
  • Made my way to Ever Grande City and tackled Victory Road. Yes, the one that requires Flash for a majority of it :(
  • Almost lost to Wally, but got ultra lucky and managed to survive.
  • Pheobe can die in a pit. I'll leave it at that, and explain myself in a bit.
  • Around 8-9 attempts already, every possible bad thing that could've happened against Glacia actually happened, especially Walrein landing three Sheer Colds and Sumo Man getting frozen twice in a row from Blizzard

I'll just end this update here because I really should get some more levels and money before I try at another attempt at the Elite Four.
