I realized about 50% of cable channels are sales, 35% isn't worth watching and the other 15% is maybe worth watching. Also the movie channels play the same movies over and over again. I think, seems your paying a certain amount a month you should get to pick your channels instead of getting 40 or 50 paid programming channels. Do you guy's get annoyed when there isn't anything on tv when you have over 100 channels to watch? Do you guy's think you should be able to pick your channels too? Tell me what you think.

Most of it isn't worth watching. Im trying to find something to watch now, but out of the 80 something channels there's nothing really that interesting... Letting people pick their own channels is a great idea.

The fact that there's hardly anything good on at any given time on cable or satellite is the biggest reason why I stopped watching T.V.

Anything I want to watch, anime, TV Shows, or whatnot, can be found streamed online. Although they have been wising up, the television officials and music industry are still so behind on the times. The internet gives you free reign to watch whatever you want, listen to whatever you want, and download whatever you want, either for free or at a legally established cost and oftentimes there are ways to circumvent commercials online as well. You can get what you want without all the B.S.

I've always hated commercials and advertisements, they make television and certain internet sites almost unbearable. I realize the industry has to make money off of them, but most of them are so annoying and bad it makes me want to buy your product even less. I don't watch television to watch some jackasses telling me to buy their product. Infomercials are the worst.

Also, I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this topic. The Culture & Media forum seems more fitting.

^ You have a very good point. I usually don't watch T.V. either but I'd also rather watch in HD and on a 42" T.V. if you know what I mean. But then again I can always go and buy that cable that allows you to connect your laptop to your T.V. and whatever is on the laptop screen will be on the T.V. screen. Thank you, I think I'm gonna do that!

With streaming on Netflix and other sites I've completely lost interest in cable TV. Spoiled, I ought to say. I can't go back to watching what someone else decides should be playing. I'm gonna watch what I choose to watch now.

Cable really should be going the the way of the 8-track, but it's sticking around doggedly.

Netflix and sites where you can watch TV online with a high speed internet connection is making cable near obsolete. While you can only watch whatever cable package you have, watching stuff online.lets you watch what you want.

Besides, if you ditch cable, you'll most likely save a bunch of money if you just have the high speed connection, although I may be wrong.

There might be more to watch if people didn't make such crap television shows. We live in a world with crappy children's programming, channels overrun with reality tv shows, and shows that don't belong on certain channels. Take away Tuff Puppy and give me Hey Arnold. Get that Jersey Shore crap out of my face. Why the hell are there trucker shows on HISTORY Channel? What's historical about that? So my complaint when I can't find anything on tv isn't that cable sucks, it's just because the **** they put on tv these days sucks in general.

Yea all you see is reality tv, and America wonder's why other countries think we're a bunch of idiots. Look at what we got on tv, if I lived in another country and seen what America plays then I would think America is a low life pos. I do live in America tho.

I found the show "Storage Wars" on A&E yesterday and I thought it was somewhat interesting, but then I found out they plant items in the lockers. Reality tv isn't reality at all. It's all fake and it's pretty sad that the only things interesting on Cable are faked. And the history channel isn't history at all. I guess history isn't interesting enough to put on tv. Maybe history isn't the most interesting thing to some people, but I'd rather watch a documentary on something related to history than Pawn stars and truckers. Theres nothing historical about that at all!

I love Usa network...I'm sorry, I just do.

Especially Psych and White Collar.

Other than that, NCIS is the only thing I watch, except cartoons like King of the Hill.

Oh, and movies. Just whenever I see a good one on.

My family has cable mostly because of the Spanish channels available (on Dish Net.) - same issue with too many commercials. I never change from the same 3 channels - TruTV, Cartoon Network, and Food Network. Everything else I just watch online. I leave TV on for noise. Once in a while something good will be on other channels - like movies on SyFy or Ghost shows I enjoy watching.

My opinion? too over expensive, for three channels I like the most.

I had netflix but every month to 3 month they increase your monthly price. It started out at 7.99 and before I knew it it was 16.99.
Thats why I quit Netflix in 4 months. Not happy with their price service.

instead of 'Catch 'em All' for me would be "gotta Pet 'Em All"

What's sad is that while rates are increasing well beyond the rate of inflation, the programming on many channels is not all that great. It's even sadder that some programs that used to air on traditional networks have jumped ship to cable networks, either because of ratings or the cost of production is too high. For various reasons, the FCC and the special interests in the cable industry will not allow a la carte service (customers choose which channels they want), one of them being so they can maximize their revenue and executive compensation by forcing all subscribers to have a certain amount and kind of channels.
The powerful special interests in government and industry believe that, even though adoption of pay TV has increased dramatically since the 1990s, there are not enough subscribers to such services. The DTV Transition in 2009 and the constant threats to reallocate or auction off additional TV spectrum (especially when channels 52 to 69 were removed and their associated frequencies auctioned off, much like what happened to channels 70 to 83) to the point of eliminating over-the-air TV altogether are efforts meant to get everyone to subscribe to cable or satellite, and then subjected of course to ever-skyrocketing rates because of "higher programming costs" that are never explained by anything substantial, other than programming providers always asking for more money (likely just so they can pay their CEOs and stockholders more in the form of bonuses and dividends).
The reason for such crappy children's programming these days is due to strict FCC regulations, particularly in an era where we are fighting a large-scale war on childhood obesity. As recently as 10 years ago, commercials for junk food products, sugary cereals, and fast food places dominated children's programming, including Saturday mornings on traditional network television, as well as syndicated programming.
That is one of the main reasons why commercial (non-public broadcasting) children's programming is no longer seen on traditional over-the-air channels during weekday afternoons-yet at the same time, it's perfectly alright to air trashy shows such as Jerry Springer during the mid-afternoon time slots, when children are coming home from school.
As for programming on certain categorized/specialty cable channels that doesn't make any sense, I can see your point. What does a show depicting a bunch of people acting like idiots (Jersey Shore) have to do with music (other than playing rap and hip-hop all the time)? (Then again, MTV is being seen by some as increasingly irrelevant, especially in an era where there are several music-oriented channels, such as TheCoolTV and The Country Network, both examples of which are available to traditional broadcast stations to put on digital subchannels {e.g. in my area, WSMH 66 in Flint, MI, primarily a Fox affiliate on their main .1 channel, airs TheCoolTV on subchannel 66.2 and TCN on 66.3.) What do live action reality shows have to do with a channel meant primarily for airing cartoons? What does late 1990s-through-2000s reality fare have to do with a channel supposedly dedicated to classic TV (TV Land), especially when similarly-formatted channels (such as RTN/RTV and Antenna TV) are now available to traditional broadcasters to put on digital subchannels?
Then again, it's bad enough that most programming on traditional (over-the-air) network and syndicated television is crap anyway.
Yea, this world is all about greed now, I hate cable because you gotta be with them for 2 years or longer which is retarded.
Nearly all of these communications service (television, phone, internet, etc.) deals that are advertised on TV and radio come with agreements that you must stay with them for a year or two or end up paying an "early termination fee" of at least $100-$250 nowadays. It's getting ridiculous, and it's only to fatten corporate bottom lines.

^ I see where your coming from with everything but don't you think these company's make enough money as it is? I'm gonna go off topic here for a second. The on demand thing is the same deal as video gaming. You buy a game that cost's 60 bucks but yet you still gotta pay for add-ons which is the same as on demand, with a lot of games now you gotta pay for an online pass if you buy it used which is bs (if you wanna watch anything worth watching for the on demand thing). They're all greedy, cable companies, internet providers, video game companies, phone companies, everything. They just can't get enough money even though they got millions.

I normally just watch things via Netflix, and the shows I used to follow... I don't really like anymore (Dexter and True Blood). But! I started watching Breaking Bad recently and it holds the distinction of the only show I've watched at broadcast in about 6 years. It's seriously one of the best television shows I've ever seen. I'm going to miss it when it's over.
