So I went out to the mall today to American Eagle (originally to pick up one pair of shorts - came out with two, two henleys, a plaid shirt, a pair of jeans, a bag, and a belt) and I discovered something that I realized happens every time I ever go to some outlet place where they sell clothes. Whatever sale associate asks me if I need any help automatically becomes my personal shopper. I ask them if they think something looks good on me, what they think matches best with what, and all of that kind of stuff!

I usually have to ask them to get something in my size because most of the time my size isn't out there, and they're usually running around the store gathering things for me, and they fully experience my dorky sense of humor and my witty comments.

So what about you? When you go into a clothes store, does anything similar happen, or are you a lone wolf who scavengers the area looking for what you want? Are you like me, and have a habit of wanting to buy something after you try it on and see what it looks like on you if you like the way you look? Do you go in with the intent of buying this, and end up buying this, that, that, and that?

It's not usually a person from the store that helps me, but usually my sister. She's got like fashion and clothes in her blood, whereas I'm like give me some sweats and I'll call it a day. So I'll go into a store blind, and my sister will basically be my critic. I mean I'll pick out my own stuff, but she'll be like suggest more stuff, and I do usually end up buying a lot. And then she has to shop for herself, so I'll wander the store one last time and find something else to buy. :P

I'm horrendously picky with clothes. So no, I don't walk into stores often and come out with a lot of clothes. I like spending money on things I don't grow out of as well haha. But yeaaah I'm just really picky with clothes...idk why. Now, if it's a cheap store, I'm more likely to buy more things than normal, but nice clothes are just sooo expensive. Playtoh's Closet is where it's at, and I hit up all those clearance racks when I go shopping.

I did recently buy myself some nice stuff though! I got a cute Yoshi shirt cause I loooove Yoshi (SO HAPPY!) and I love the style of the shirt. And I got some pink shorts, because I am really fond of shorts ever since like ummm spring haha. I just haven't liked wearing pants like I did in high school. My dumb ass even wore pants during band camp in high school. BAND. CAMP. Stupid kid.

BUT YEAH I don't buy clothes too often.

We're twins Nick, I hope you know that lol. Everything you said. I'll say, "oh I need shorts" and leave with jeans and hoodies and watches and whatnot. I have a problem, especially at American Eagle & Hollister.

I hate shopping so I'll go to the store, grab some clothes and get out. If more than just one of my family is with me they pick things out for me. (which is nice since I have no fashion sense) I hate trying things on so I just buy 'em and git! :D

Clothes shopping is not my thing. Since I don't particularly care if I'm at the forefront of modern fashion trends or not, I'll pick up whatever's cheap (those lightweight T-shirts work perfectly fine for me) and be done with it. I usually end up getting most of my clothes as gifts from others anyway, and I have a whole stash of free T-shirts from college events :P

I pretty much know what I'm looking for when I go in the store, so it's very rare for me to get caught up in buying a whole bunch of clothes unless I see something I really like and it's on sale for a good price. And I don't like being bothered while I shop - I just go try stuff on and see if I like it and don't ask other's opinions or anything.

All of my previous part-time jobs were in retail, so I go it alone because I know what looks good and so on.

Never liked someone constantly asking me if I need help or something like that, so I never did it, just made myself available if someone needed it.

Mmm, eh, I tend to go it alone and pick out my own things. I mean, I don't really care about clothes shopping much in general, so when I'm shopping for that type of thing I pick out two or three shirts and go try them on myself. I stick with my own opinion, because I can usually tell what looks better, and sometimes I don't care so long as I like what I'm wearing. For things aside from clothes, I only grab an employee when I can't find what I'm looking for, and then I let 'em go on their way after we find it. xD; I'm pretty lax, I suppose. With game stores, I usually only need employee help when I'm actually checking out. lol = =

Since I've worked in a store I realize it's expected for workers to sort of be a personal shopper of sorts to get the sale. Though I usually say I do not need help, as Im capable of browsing and finding things myself. I actually dislke when the workers get all in my face. I usually know what I'm looking for and where to get it from.

IMO Shopping is a walk in, grab, pay, walk out experience. I can't stand spending more than 10-15 minutes in a shop.

I also detest changing rooms, so I never try things on XD I just have a constant fear that someone will burst in whilst I'm half undressed.

I never have a plan for what I'm gonna get so I just go with whatever seems good at the time, or get nothing at all. Sometimes I'll feel like looking through everything on my own and sometimes someone'll come up and say "what about this?" and I'll buy it. But I almost never come out with a lot, and if I ask for someone's help it's usually only the one time because after that I feel like I'm imposing and just stop shopping.

Besides, a lot of the sales associates I've met are real a-holes.
As someone who, when I'm not working the cash register or working with the employees/in my office, falls under the banner of sales associate or personal shopper, I'm curious as to how these sales associates are 'a-holes', as you put it. I know exactly how rude they can get sometimes as I work with them 9 to 5 weekly, but the majority of the time they're under huge pressure to get the customers to buy something and it takes a huge hit on their nerves, so they can't help but feel constantly stressed and consequently angry. I couldn't help but comment on your post because that is EXACTLY what the employees in the store complain about, that they're getting unfairly mukted on when they're just trying to do their job the best they can.

I rarely ever buy clothes anymore (store perk - three free items of clothing every month), but when I'm not being the annoying personal shopper, I try to stay away from them as much as I can. I don't mind engaging with them, but because I am one of them, I know exactly what thy're trying to do and I don't fall for it, lol. I'll do my own shopping when i'm not doing your shopping, thanks.

This is exactly me haha. I can't stand clothes shopping, so I really just make it as fast as possible.

On another note, for shopping in general I can't stand it when the staff harass me or ask me if I need help; I'd prefer just to go to them if I have any questions. That's why I never approach anybody at work, I always let them come to me, which leads to some really bad mystery shopper reports at the end of the month lmao.

I tend not to ever speak to sales associates if possible. They make me uncomfortable, so I make a conscious effort to avoid stores with sales associates who greet you and follow you around the store and stuff.

I much prefer browsing at my own pace, not having to talk to people while I do it, and buying whatever I think looks good, instead of what someone else thinks I should buy.
