Dark Rising is a ROM hack. You can look at ROM Hacks here -> Clicky~

As for your main question, you should be aware that [remakes] don't have a third version...yet. FireRed and LeafGreen are remakes of the original Red and Blue/Green versions. As I've said, remakes don't have a third version, so you'll only have to choose between FireRed and LeafGreen. Other examples of [remakes] are HeartGold and SoulSilver, and Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

Third versions are only available for the [main] games. Example would be Ruby and Sapphire for the 3rd generation. Since they are not [remakes], they have a third version, which is Emerald.

Interesting take, flight.

Do a person have to buy all 4 games in order to 'catch them all'? Or is it a lot of it trading and breeding?

The good thing with X/Y and OR/AS is that having both games means you can just trade between them to get a good chunk of the Pokemon. There's a handy thread over here to find out what's exclusive to which game so you can know what to trade and "catch 'em all": click here

And if you need something that isn't in your version, our helpful folks over in Trade Corner are happy to help.

Having both X/Y and OR/AS, wouldn't that require getting a second 2DS system to trade with myself?

Remember that if you have a good wi-fi connection, you can do online trading with the PSS in all 6th Gen games. If your connection sucks then yeah, two systems may be the way to go.

Ahh okay. Understand though. This 2DS purchase is my first time into the DS world. I haven't played DPP/HGSS for the regular DS/Lite nor did I own one.

Last Pokemon games I played were with the gameboy advance in FR/LG.

Bought a "New 3DS" recently and am wondering if Pokebank/Transfer has a way to transfer from my 2DS over to my New 3DS
Assuming you also downloaded Pokemon Bank to your New 3DS, then yes you can transfer. There's not much difference between the New 3DS and other systems in the 3DS family, the only difference being some exclusive games for the former.

So is the PokeBank required to do all the trading and such? Or does having two systems erase the need for the PokeBank?

You can still trade between systems, so Pokemon Bank isn't always needed.

So let's say a person has a combination of 2 systems (2DS, 3DS or 3DSXL) would a person find the need to use the PokeBank? From the research I've done it sounds like a player who had 2 systems could still trade Pokemon between systems it's just that it would be slower between that person would have to trade each Pokemon one by one. Is that accurate?

Pokébank would still be useful for also storing your Pokémon so you can restart your games as well without losing all of your Pokémon.

Will this Club Nintendo thing that will be ending in June be needed to catch any Pokemon?
Nope, Club Nintendo has nothing to do with getting any pokémon, otherwise it'd be kinda stupid.

Where do I find an Eevee in Gen VI?
In X/Y you can find Eevee on Route 110 or possibly in a Normal type Friend Safari, while in ORAS they can be found via the DexNav on Route 116.

Hi folks!
As the title says, I've been interested in getting back into the Pokémon games after an extremely long hiatus. I played Silver a bunch back on the GB Color, and its predecessors once or twice. I must have been still in elementary school since I last invested in the series!

In any case, I've been thinking about picking it up again, as I do remember being fond of the system and the adventure. That said, I've no idea where to start. Things were so much simpler with only two generations! Show me a Pokémon these days and I might not recognize it as one! For an old Johto vet returning to the world, where do you reccomend I start?

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! I'm going to quote a response from my welcome thread, just to get more coverage here; maybe it might provoke more opinions for you!

Thanks for the welcomes!

I think the main appeal for me with these games are the ledgendaries - uncovering their secrets, seeig what they can do, capturing them for yourself, that sort of thing! So I'd unapologetically say that I'd be interested in the games with the most powerful, if not the most interesting ledgendary rosters.

But other than that, I'm really interested in community-based features like trading, battling, socializing over WiFi and the like. I remember when you had to connect your handhelds to do any of that! I'm eager to explore many of the newer features the more contemporary games have introduced, which will most likely manage to hold my attention for a while.

However, I can't say I'm not intimidated by the prospect of playing through several past generations to get caught up. For example, if I go back and jump into gen III or IV, I'd be wary of trying to crawl after everyone who might be wrapping up V and VI. I'm not real sure how the 3DS WiFi works with the newer Pokémon games. Can someone with an older gen still interact with people in higher gens?

I just saw this, but if you looking to start a game with alot of legends, I would suggest you to play pokemon OR or AS as you can obtain almost of of the legends in those 2 games and in my opinion those are really fun with lots of this to do once the E4 has been beaten.

As the others said, I'd recommend OR/AS since it'll give you a Hoenn fix while allowing you to get adjusted to 6th Gen mechanics as well. Some say it's not as challenging as the original versions, but story-wise it's a huge improvement compared to the original R/S.

Given you're a person who hasn't played since G/S/C Johto, it'd be best you follow the regions in order from when they came out and while it's tricky to get 3rd Gen these days, the aforementioned OR/AS would still give you your fix of those games while still being fresh and updated.
