#prayformoyes #tearsfordavid Quite funny really, anyone reckon we'll get Damned United 2 film out of this? Very similar grounds to Mr. Clough's time at (Leeds) United.

What a odd time to sack him, I can only assume losing the faith of the players recently has been the last straw (or did they want him to qualify for the Europa League as a last resort? unlikely but you never know). Oh well, it's about time and lets face it no one will question it down the line.

Not sure about a Damned United 2, Clough only lasted fourty four days so it was a lot more dramatic. I'm sure I'd be interested if they made something about it in a few years though.

They probably had an objective for United to seal a Champions League spot; their defeat against Everton pretty much made it mathematically impossible.

I'm probably in the minority here but I don't think all of United's problems this season were down to Moyes (though admittedly he hardly covered himself in glory - no team should go from league Champions to 7th, and part of that is down to him seemingly not having any real, coherent, long-term game plan). I think them winning the title last season papered over a lot of cracks, which have been exposed this campaign, big time.

It's a shame for Moyes, as I do still think he's a decent manager. He'd be better suited to someone like Newcastle, a midtable club, or somewhere where there wouldn't be as much pressure on him.

Not a good couple of years for Scottish managers in the Premier League and it might get worse with Lambo at Villa.

Can imagine there will be large number of Norwich fans hoping for Lambert's return. Sadly I don't think David McNally and Paul Lambert will ever be at the same club again.

I don't really rate Lambert as a manager, whenever i've seen Villa play this season they've been set up so negatively. Even at home their plan seems to have been "stick 10 men behind the ball then counter/nick a goal from a set piece", it's awful to watch. I do respect his philosophy of giving youngsters a chance, however.

As for Norwich, I think they've got a good chance of going down. The teams below them all seem to be battling, and picking up points here and there (especially Sunderland - four points from City and Chelsea and both away from home!), and Norwich, on paper at least, have the hardest run in of the bottom four or five teams. One more win *should* keep them up, but it's a question of where it'll come from.

I don't think it's a case of him being a bad manager, what he achieved at Norwich was remarkable and he deserves full praise for it. I think he's an okay manager who's doing an okay job at Villa. He really does need to try and instill more than one style of play though, it's so one-dimensional. It's fine having a philosophy and sticking to it, but the best managers can adapt it.

lol i'd love to see that. Moyes played by Peter Capaldi?..

His footballing philosophy at Norwich and Colchester was far from defensive. I'd imagine it would be difficult to get a squad of lower league and european offcuts playing well, especially when Benteke is having a major case of second season syndrome. Or maybe the players have just lost confidence in him, seemingly like Norwich and Hughton this season.

I don't know why they had to wait until it was mathematically impossible, either. The signs were clearly there for the entire season that he was not cut out for the job.
I suppose that one is answered if the rumours about missing the CL allowed them to activate a clause that ended his contract early were true.

On Lambert, all I have to say is he gave us money for Joe Bennett, from that perspective he should be the worst manager of all time.

Sounds like a typical Jose game happened tonight, I didn't see it unfortunately.

It was; parking the bus etc, awful to watch at times but hey, it gets him results.

I think they'll get through to the final but be beaten by Byern.

Well, Cech, Terry, Lampard and Mikel are out of the second leg, and if Sunderland managed to win in the Bridge, I don't see why we won't be able to get at least a draw.

But yeah, quoting someone, "that was 19th century football".

0-0 at Atletico Madrid; Chelsea have no away goals so Atletico may have a slight advantage here though Stamford Bridge has largely been a fortress this season. Close tie, but I hope Atletico progresses.

Looking forward to the game against Real Madrid tomorrow. Hopefully we don't allow complacency to settle into our game.

The modern footballer has to be competent in a number of roles.
And if you play under Mourinho you'd rather know how to defend, even if you are Samuel Eto'o.

Seriously, we need a new evolution of the concept "parking the bus" just for Mourinho's tactics. In Spanish we have the "Trivobus" (432-...........-1), but idk in English.

Subpar performance in 0-1 defeat against Real...

Food for thought: "Then they’ll [Bayern] become like Barcelona, who are unwatchable because they pass the ball backwards when on the goal line." - Franz Beckenbauer (1 month ago)

Real v Bayern proving that it's not how much of the ball you have, but what you do with it.

That said, Bayern looked quite poor tonight. If they perform like that again in the second leg they're out.
