At work I was, "I expect the ref will add 90 minutes of injury time because the entire Nigeria - Iran has been a waste of time from the first to the last minute". At least we had some good laughs every time they did something really really pathetic. Or just looking at the names.
Me: "Substitution- Ramon out, Odemwingie in." Workmate: "Odemwingie? That is a pokémon name, isn't it?"
Also, to all the Portuguese in here:
Except two people. One: Pepe, get a brain. Seriously. You could do with one. And two: Ronaldo. You know the movie about yourself that's being made? Well, right after the scene in which you celebrate with all your soul scoring an utterly pointless penalty in injury time with 3-1, you should add this other one:
As a bit of back story, I just turned on the television when Ghana scored to equalize the game. Of course, from social media I had been aware that USA scored extremely early in the game, and it shocked me that they had maintained that same score through most of the allotted time. However, with around eight minutes left, Ghana had pulled within striking distance! And then, possibly even more shocking - Brooks closed the match with a beautiful header that made me jump out of my seat. Spectacular ending, and what a win for the US!
Some of the recent games have been boring so far. I really hope that Brazil v Mexico actually put on a show. I don't think there will be that many goals but I think there will be a ton of chances.
Man, what an absolutely turgid affair - Brazil and Mexico's match had me on the edge of my seat. Score ended 0-0, but probably was one of the most entertaining World Cup matches so far. Ochoa is the man of the hour, definitely. He'll be getting the same treatment John Brooks did last night, haha, and for good reason, he played brilliantly. Neymar's header was inches from breaking the plane, a truly remarkable save.
And I was right, Mexico and Brazil did put on a show. It was a truly good match right there. Russia vs South Korea wasn't too special, but that was still a pretty good match also.
Quite the contrast between the Mexican and Russian goalkeepers there...
Of course, as if Australia needed more issues, we lost one of our defensive midfielders to injury during training. At least it isn't the captain. I wonder who will take his place - we have a player called Holland who is a decent chance to do so, which I suppose is amusing. Pity I don't like nor rate him as a player.
Australia and Holland might end up being a goal scoring frenzy. I think Australia for this game should be at least 25/1 and not 12/1. If Holland play the way they played against Spain, then I'm sorry, I can see it being a goalfest.
Fixtures out, nothing too interesting for opening weekend in the Premierleague, Southampton vs Liverpook could be good.
Norwich start away at Wolves, we never win on the opening day and usually struggle in front of the Sky cameras so I'm not expecting much. Ipswich and Wolves away in he first month is pretty interesting. Don't play Boro 'till the beginning of November though.
Some interesting games tonight. Hope Straya don't get rekt.
If nothing else Australia's participation at this world cup can be remembered for that goal. Unbelievable. Hopefully the Australian team can hold on too.
South Korea made no sense last night, after conceding they didn't let Russia take control immediately which is what would usually happen and they actually fought for a lead, but then suddenly seemed happy with a draw in the last few minutes when most superior teams would throw the kitchen sink at the opposition.
I've completely under-estimated Australia here, but with Holland's performance against Spain, I thought that this would have been a stroll for Holland. Shame that Cahill is gonna miss the next match though... Now I really want Australia to win this game and cause an upset.
