So, I want to bring this discussion back to eventually bringing more people in here.

I would like to have more people around here. I don't know about you guys, but I see the same people around here that have been around here since the beginning and I see maybe one or two stragglers coming in every now and then that didn't think this idea was the best when it was suggested, but wanted to try it out anyway after some time had passed. It's getting stale, like its been said by one or two or three or four or probably more people.

For now, I don't want to open it up to omgeveryone, because I don't think that that way will work out the best. A new forum usually means high traffic, because people are curious about it. Doesn't mean that they'll post, but given the nature of the forum, I think we'd get a lot of people who would post.

So, while eventually I would like this to be open for everyone, doing it all at once would be overwhelming. I had a passing thought earlier, which I posted here, of allowing more people to request access to this forum by requesting to join a usergroup. Some of you guys may remember that beta Wifi center Audy was working on. Remember that? Well, for those who don't, it was a beta forum that Audy was testing out that would have replaced the Trade Corner in the way that threads were dealt with. Anyone could gain access to the forum by requesting access to the beta usergroup. That could be done in the group membership page of the User CP (http://www.pokecommunity.com/profile.php?do=editusergroups). Members of that group gain the ability to view that beta forum.

That's what I would like to do with this forum. Allow members to request access to this forum by requesting access to the usergroup. They'll be accepted based on the activity level here. If they aren't accepted, we'll shoot them a PM explaining why and to just try again at a later date.

So we'd pretty much be inviting them in in little herds.

Before I bring this up in HQ as a way of adding more people here, I'd like to gather thoughts on it. Thoughts?

I definitely agree. I mean, it's nice having it as a perk for people, but honestly it's going to get old quickly. You can only think of so many questions, or you can't just keep asking the same 50ish people questions over and over again before it starts getting completely stale. It'd be much more interesting to garner people's interest for this and see if they want to join in on the fun. The usergroup idea sounds like a fantastic way of going about that.

I also agree on those thoughts above, in terms of allowing members to come in if they feel devoted to ask questions and interact with other members.

Also, I notice that there are threads nearly a month old and have under 10 posts, while some as old as a week have upwards of 30-50 posts in them, which I think is a bit unfair, because the threads that have fewer and fewer posts of an older age (like mine) tend to get buried. I'm not saying to make members have to post in every thread, but it may make people feel a little under to have a thread made and see it die out.

I also fully agree with everyone else. I've noticed that activity here's starting to die down a bit and get stale since the beginning of the beta testing. And I feel one reason behind this is because it's supporters and staff only at the moment. There's only a a good number of members who can see this forums and there's some not active or not interested in this kind of thing. Plus everything what Jake mentioned, you can only think of a certain number of questions to ask someone before you have nothing else left to ask. So I definitely agree that a special usergroup for people who are interested is the best way to go until this forum's ready to go public to everyone.

Well maybe it could be suggested that if someone asks you a question in their thread then you should ask one in their's? I agree you shouldn't force someone to ask a question in everyone's thread, but just suggest to.

Also I'm thinking it's okay if people were to link their threads here in their signature/blog? That would definitely get people to at least check out your thread and want to ask a question or two.

Nick, is there actually a time or chance that I would be able to do my 2-thread idea on the main forum? It's been about 2 months now, hasn't it? I'm getting the feeling that it was just said to me (to try it after testing period) just to appease me at this point, because I haven't had any feedback about it.

Could I know what's actually going to go on with it? Or is there HQ discussion going and you're waiting for responses too? Just getting a bit ridiculous and since it's not even something against the rules, I feel like I should just spring it up in forum games anyways just for fun and to see how it goes.
Feel like I'm getting held back for absolutely no reason, and it is very frustrating, especially when I'm still adamant about it and still willing to organize it.

Oh, yeah. I meant to give you the go ahead on June 1st, but I've been in the process of moving this weekend and didn't get a chance to come on yesterday and it kind of slipped my mind. Go ahead, Kura.

How about <100 or so posts? That means they're probably a regular so they should share if they want :)

Is there anyway that Q&A could be coded in to user profiles? Like a tab on your profile where people can submit questions / you can post answers - rather than a thread?

That way it takes out the spammy, popularity contest vibe that I feel it would get with a wider audience.

Sorry! I took slightly longer than I intended because I have been busy, but the AMA threads are up in Chit Chat and Polls. Feel free to move them to Other Trivia/Games if you feel it's better suited there.

Also, I welcome feedback on the two threads once the ball gets rolling.

I agree with this idea. I do think it would provide less clutter to the forums. And I agree how some of the threads in here seem to be based off of popularity.

For the AMA threads I've created, I wanted to ask for an opinion. I'm trying to think of a way people can be notified that a question has been directed to them. Should I ask the question-asker to VM the person they are asking, that next week they will have an active question?
Or should I ask for it to be manditory to put a URL of the user ID for everyone they ask a question to and I will go to their page myself and notify them every week when I update the question?

Or should they not be notified, yet the question doesnt go away until it's been more than 2/3 weeks.. if they don't answer it in that time, I remove it from the list.. and if they happen to see their question and they answer it then they need to VM me that it has been answered so I can strike it off the list.

The member-specific questions will be in alphabetical order.

What are your thoughts of these 3 options? I'm leaning a bit towards the last one since I will be updating the general questions anyways.. and them going to someone else's page might be annoying.. and it also might take up a lot of my time if I personally have to go to their page, too.

Any other suggestions?

Um... I'm a bit confused by the notice. Am I still allowed to create a new thread here?

EDIT: Ah, I realized that there's a different kind of system in here. Looks like I'm way past the date.

^ yeah, I was kinda upset about it myself as I recently got [Supporter]Supporter [/Supporter] for my birthday, from [Supporter]NecrumWarrior[/Supporter] and I was so excited to discover the new forum and all the threads in MIC xD I wanted to make a thread SO BAD! xD

Conversation regarding this forum;

[18:04:42] Ozzy: It was never going to work though was it? There's only a finite number of times you can ask a question about another member
[18:04:54] Ozzy: If it's opened up to the general member base the same thing will happen again lol, even if more people are allowed to make threads
[18:05:09] Ozzy: imo just open it up like one month a year or something
[18:06:07] Lame Person: You don't think just get rid of it?
[18:06:25] Ozzy: Not necessarily
[18:06:42] Ozzy: Although I never liked the idea or thought it would work, I think it has potential as an occasional thing
[18:07:00] Ozzy: It'd do well as like a once a year event running for around a month

Basically I've never liked the idea of this place as a whole forum (especially when the idea hardly ever even works in blogs) and it seems to have reached something of a slowdown recently with no posts in two days, however I can see there's obvious potential for it to work, so I propose we close the forum for now and re-open it again in a year or so's time. If this forum was turned into an event run once a year in the month of January or something, people would have a lot more to ask each other and the quality would stay frequent as opposed to, well, this. If these months work well and people want it back more frequently then it could change to twice a year or once a season or whatever, but for now I think it's a case of questions being exhausted and although this will be helped as more threads are made and more people gain access, I think it'll always be the fate of this forum.

Thoughts?

Although Ozzy's points are sound, it sounds a bit...idk, defeatist to me. I'd personally like to try opening the forum up to the general memberbase for a month and if Ozzy's predictions really do come true, then just close and do whatever you want with the forum. But I personally don't want to see the forum be closed off just yet.

I agree with Harlequin on this one. I don't like the idea of calling it a failure without taking it to full scale and giving it time to run it's course. Especially not when it seems like the chances to make new threads was closed up half way through it's lifetime and we stopped getting new threads capable of generating traffic to other threads.

I'd like to propose something; require users establishing new threads to have posted 3 questions in other threads, and require existing users bumping their own thread to post at least one question in other threads.

On the bright side, the AMA Threads I've made in Chit Chat and Polls are now open for Member Specific Questions~ Right now you can ask a question to any one member. I'll see how that goes this week and then I'll branch of to one question PER member and I'll see how that goes. :3

This sounds like a lot of effort to moderate and keep people in line.

As to a 'trial run' - isn't that what this subforum is for? Nobody has asked a question in ~3 days. As far as I can see, only three threads have over two pages.

To me that shows quite clearly that activity has dried up, as when this was first introduced questions were posted pretty often.

Totally agree with Ozzy, make it open for a few weeks a year as a special event.

Yeah seeing how there's threads that have been dead for 4 weeks on the first page, it's safe to say activity here has dried up. I agree with Harlequin , open it up to the public for a month and see how it goes. If it ends up being inactive again, then I'd say go with Ozzy's idea. I still really like the idea of this forum. It's been fun while it lasted.
