I love my name puns. <3

Howdy! My name is Dustin Fairburn, I am tweny years old and will be twenty-one on August, 31, I was born and raised in the central area of southeast Louisiana, just thirty miles north of New Orleans, in a small town named Folsom. The town I grew up in didn't get its second stoplight until about five years ago, and everyone hates it. Trust me when I say that it's small, because it really is. I went to high school in the next, larger town over and graduated with no scholarships because there are none in Louisiana that pay for out-of-state hair schools.

Growing up as a kid in a one-horse town was tough. In a small elementary school of maybe 500 kids, which is still decent, we didn't have very many...victims, I guess you could say. By victims, I mean victims of some seriously brutal bullying. One of the few kids who were chosen, of course, was me. This led all the way to about my junior year in high school, actually. In that time I developed trust issues, and then overcame them. Though, I still have a hard time really opening up to people. However, that part I work on everyday. I would definitely say my childhood bullying has affected (effected?) me as I have grow up. It led me to be a whole lot more understanding than people give me credit for. I try to put myself in other people's shoes and understand where they are coming from, even if in the end I don't agree, I've at least tried to understand the person. My junior year of high school I sort of just got over the hurtful things people said about me. I stopped caring about the rumors, the accusations, the questions, the snickering and bickering, and finally began living the life I wanted to live.

I came out as being gay when I was about 15. It started off as a note to a friend, and then another different note to other friends, then my mother, and then others, and finally, on the very last day of my freshman year in high school, a kid came up and asked if I was gay, and I bluntly said, "Yes, I am." For those of you battling coming out or who are having a hard time dealing with the reaction of the ignorant world, I really cannot say enough how amazing it is to actually say out loud to someone, "I am gay." Others may disagree, but for me it truly was the most freeing and powerful feeling I have ever felt in my life. Luckily for me, I have a very supportive family. No one has ever really cared about sexuality in my family. Such things were nothing but trivial matters to us. Our philosophy is very much respect for others, respect for yourselves, happiness for everyone. Except for my grandmother, but i don't wanna drag this first post out too long. :x

Since then my life has been on a pretty much high. I started in the hair industry as an intern for a stylist for the past three years. Her and her family have pretty much become my second family. She and her husband are two of my greatest friends, and definitely my leading inspirations in life. They refused to let me go to any other kind of school other than a Vidal Sassoon school, which is revered as the "Harvard for hair". I found a Vidal Sassoon school in Scottsdale, Arizona, and currently study there from Tuesday-Saturday.

Now for PC stuff.

I've actually had quite a bit of history with PC. I had an account about five or so years ago and was regularly active on it. It is such an old account, it was even before Sydian was a moderator! -le dramatic gasp- I quit PC around the time when the old reputation system was getting out of hand, popped back in when it was REALLY out of hand, and then left and came back around 2010-11 ish or so, just when Forever was modded for Black and White and Kaori shortly after. I left again, surprise, and then came back as you now know me, definitely an evolved version of my old self.
I definitely tried to become a moderator. I know a lot of people have issues and junk with that type of stuff, but I say you should mod people who actually want to be a moderator, rather than someone who was picked on a whim hoping that they would eventually want the job that they are assigned to. But, even though I wanted to be a mod, I was definitely extremely surprised when it actually happened.

For those who are super new, I was modded for the Black 2 and White 2 section shortly after XanderO was modded for the same section. Imagine the surprise I felt when I found out we are both from Louisiana, too. Since then our forum merged with the Black and White forum to create the Fifth Generation forum! go post there
It is a lot of fun being a mod, but it is a bit of work. However, I don't think I'll ever back down from it unless I am told to do so.

So...yeah! Ask away if you'd like!

You said you've been here since before Sydian got modded, have you ever tried tracking down your old account and then seeing how you've changed since then?

The female sign in your name came from the fact you like female Jellicent better than the male, do you think Jellicent looks better as a female?

What was your initial reaction upon getting your mod invite?

Do you think Dustin is a cool name?

Hi Duzzy! I really enjoyed your coming out story. I definitely agree that finally saying it to someone (aloud or not) was definitely the most freeing thing in the world. The weight it takes off of your shoulders is one that I hope any young LGBT kid out there eventually gets to feel. On that topic, if there was one piece of advice you could give to anyone struggling with these issues, what would you tell them?

I have looked them up, actually, and it's weird. I know I've changed, but of course it never feels like you have. I still use as many smilies as possible, I use the little less than sign and a three to make a heart. But as a person I'm definitely different.

I do think they look better, tbh. They have a bit more grace and prettiness, if you will, to them. Plus they're pink. <3

My initial reaction was of course to freak the Hell out. I literally started bouncing and cheering, and my mom was super confused, so I RAN to tell her. She was confused the entire time, but she was happy for me.

I used to not like my name, and I have never thought of it as "cool", but it definitely suits me better than anything else.

I would tell them that it's ok. Everything is ok. You're gay, and that's ok. People hate you for it, but that is ok. Because people love you, people want to know you, and though all of that may not happen when and where you are at that very moment, it will eventually. It'll be awesome, with rainbows and unicorns, you know, the whole package.

Aww, I really felt awful reading what happened to you during your schooling years. <3 Just remember you're awesome regardless of what anyone else has to say. The bullies are just jealous.

I'm really glad your family was accepting of you. I hope that works out the same way for me the day I decide to reveal my true self to them. :]

Anyway, if you wouldn't have gone through with beauty school, what other major/profession would have interested you?

Let's say that your coming out experience wasn't as pleasant as it was (thank god it was pleasant, though!!), how do you think you would have dealt with it if there was a negative reaction? Getting physically bullied for being gay, for example. I'm just a little surprised to hear that it went smoothly, as when one (meaning me) thinks of the South, I don't exactly conjure up a gay-friendly image, lmao.

What do you think of all those crazy people (and let's be honest, old people) saying "GOD HATES HAGS" and stupid things like that? How do you deal with them, directly and/or internally?

I don't really know. Hair school was the main thing, but I have a TON of different things I would have liked to go through. Probably something involving history or archaeology.

Well, I did have rocks and junk thrown at me. not hard to do serious damage, but I'd get bullied for it. After a while I just began not to care what other people thought of me. I was happy with who I was at the time, so their hatred and stupidity didn't affect me. But I can't exactly say what I would have done, considering it didn't happen. But I can imagine it would have been a billion times harder to cope and deal with.

Hm. This is tough, because I must say that I talk about the gays as though I'm not one. lol
When I think of myself, of course like many do, I don't see me being gay. I see me being a short, dark haired male, in hair school, who loves video games and nerd stuff, baking, etc etc, and THEN, after I've listed everything about myself, there is my sexuality. My sexuality means so little to me because of how I was raised, I think. It was never an issue nor was it something that made me feel... more special, I guess would be the appropriate thing to say. I feel special, I just don't feel as though that separates me from the rest of society, and I have my supportive family to thank for that. They taught me that everyone truly is equal, and that it's less tiring to accept everyone for who they are, rather than to fight against them, trying to change their point of views to match yours exactly.
So to answer, when I see those "God hates hags" signs, they don't bother me in the slightest. Because they aren't referring to me, they're referring to a disgusting, God forsaken creature that they themselves imagine me to be, a creature which I am not.

...quite a few, actually. :'D
The last is the most recent, and yes, it is shaved at the sides, back, and long on top. c':
My natural color is as you see it in the first pic, actually. Sorta. That's when I had lighter pieces in it, but the black pieces is my natural hair color. I miss it so bad. :c

Well-- I'm assuming you watch/read Fairy Tail, so who is YOUR favorite Fairy Tail character? *7*

If you don't watch Fairy Tail, I have so many other questions for you! Your intro post was so moving, it's really inspiring that you've found who you are-- I admire your perseverance, and beauty school sounds like SO much fun!

Could you describe a little bit of what you study in school? Like, what cuts look good on people, or some techniques? I don't know anything about beauty school, but it's really interesting to me!

Also, how do you feel towards the people who bullied you in the past? How would you react if you met them today?

How do you like Scottsdale?! It's so hot isn't it? I feel like I could fry an egg on the sidewalk in the summer-- but I heard that it's a pretty fun place? What do you like doing on your time off, other than surfing PC and stuff? (Like, what kind of places do you like hanging out at? *V*)

Favorite color?

Favorite Pokemon besides Jellicent? (If Jellicent isn't your favorite then what is?)

What do you think of the four new Pokemon leaked yesterday?

I DO watch/read Fairy Tail. Actually, my favorites are the same as yours! xD I wish Mystogan was there longer so we could see more of his magic. ;n; I've always fantasized what he could do with more magic staves and such. Laxus is a hunky, hunky man, who I just love to bits and pieces. Like, legit, I love him, I hated him at first, but now I wanna be his husband. So it's safe to say I love him the most. Also, I'm generally drawn towards characters (in anything) that have a LOT of physical strength. So Gildarts and Makarov are definitely high on the list, too. I just love Fairy Tail. ;A;

What I study in school is actually the Vidal Sassoon way of cutting and coloring. Vidal Sassoon started when he was young and actually is a legend and pretty much a hair god in the world of hair and beauty. His styles are ever classic, and super fashion forward. His haircuts in the fifties look like they were created in today's society. They are always way ahead of their time. So, what we learn as a Vidal Sassoon school are the most advanced techniques in the world. Legit. Vidal Sassoon is known worldwide as the "Harvard for hair". We learn precision cutting, which is cutting shapes and lines without the use of a comb, we learn advanced coloring techniques, which are my favorite, and it's just a balls awesome school. <33

Also lemme say diss: the Vidal Sassoon products aren't really Sassoon products. Before his death, Vidal Sassoon sold his name to Bumble & Bumble, another giant in the beauty product world. However, Vidal did and does have a line which he only uses and sells exclusively in his salons. Those products are simply called "Sassoon". So while yes, the products in the drug stores and beauty shops have his name, they still are not Sassoon quality.

Anywho, as far as the people who used to bully me: I actually have seen quite a lot of them. I smile, and keep walking past. It would be rude of me to not acknowledge that they exist, but that's as far as I go with it. I don't hold a grudge towards them, but they definitely aren't my friends, nor will they be.

Scottsdale is actually very, very nice. c: It's so pretty, everything is super easy to find, and the people are pretty friendly! It has been getting warmer, so I'm preparing myself to see how Arizona heat compares to Louisiana's. As far as my time off goes, I don't do a whole lot. I'm more of a homebody anyways, so I usually just like to chill here. Even when I go out, it's never to clubs or anything, more like the movies or a place to eat with friends or something. Something relaxing. c:

You forgot my questions. D:

Any I have a few more questions, specifically about hair.

What do you think is the best drying technique for short straight hair like this?
Spoiler:

(Yes that's me.) Hair dryer or natural dry? I hate how my hair gets puffy/frizzy (could just be how my hair naturally is.) and rather like it flat.Thanks.

My favorite color is pink. c': Go to my profile and you'll really see it. But my favorite shade is a soft, pale pink.

Gyarados is actually my ultra favorite Pokemon. He's so cute. <3

And I think they're alright. I like the panda and the bird. Not so sure about the goat or the lizard-dog-cat.

I didn't see them, sweety. I'm sorry. ;A;

When drying short hair to be flatter, ALWAYS point the blow drier downwards toward the head. If you want the hair to go forward, dry from the back to the front, and you can stroke your hair with your fingers from the back to the front to help, as well. Short hair is hard in that if it isn't styled using heat, it'll do whatever it damn well pleases. So if you want to style it everyday, blow drier is the way to go. c:

It's neat! It's borderline funny, to me, because no one else I know on any other site is from there, and then to find out after we were both modded that we both lived in Louisiana was awesome.
