please don't take this thread negatively... I wanna know reasoning behind this...

I am guilty myself, and I have seen a few other posts by others on PokéCommunity Forums about Poképhilia and attraction to Pokémon... so why is there a vast amount of people attracted to Pokémon? with all the monster animes and monsters in video games, why Pokémon?

That's akin to saying why does an individual choose one particular partner to fall in love with out of the 129599399325402931 people in the world? In all honesty and in respect to your question, I don't know.

When playing Pokémon, if you are really into the game, you form connections with the Pokémon you play with, they become like friends, more so than pets as everyone would believe. If you think about it, how much time do you spend with your pets, as opposed to your friends and then compare that to Pokémon. Anyway, to go back on track, the more time you spend with your Pokémon, the more they become individuals, especially if you give them nicknames. For example, my Rex, an Arcanine, has a tendency to get poisoned. A lot. So much so that in my mind he has developed a fear of poison types.

So, to answer your question, sorry about the rambling, there are many reasons why someone may grow to be attracted to a Pokémon, ranging from aesthetically pleasing, to a personality your imagination has attached to an individual of a species, to outright unavailability (we, as humans, tend to want what we can't have). It's different for every person. I hope this helps a little.

Pokemon falls under the purview of the furry fandom, in this way (there's a lot of Pokemon art on places like Fur Affinity). To answer your question, I think you could just as well look at why that appeals. I don't personally know the answer, but there are articles on the furry fandom's history which might give an idea of how it, and by proxy Pokemon, became popular targets for the affections of certain folk. What Squidchan said above is a viable explanation as to why Pokemon in particular; the games' stories do have a strong theme of lovingness toward the creatures.

I think if a person somehow thinks they are "attracted" to a pokémon more than other kind of creatures, it's just because they have been playing pokémon and have a special place in their heart for the games or just the characters. Just like someone could have special sentimental feelings towards any other game or franchise they have grown to like really. Maybe pokémon is popular in those circles because there is a lot of people playing pokémon as well as a vast amount of different species for people with different tastes? wait why am i even actually thinking about this

In any case, I don't think "poképhilia" is an appropriate subject to elaborate on at PokéCommunity. There are probably other places on the web where such questions can be asked, and maybe answered by people who can relate to it better. Try that.
