That was the tag in our football promo video. I miss it. It was funny.

So, by brothers and sisters here, I'm not talking about siblings. I'm talking about fraternity brothers and sorority sisters. Are you in a fraternity/sorority? If so, which one? If not, are there any that you're interested in (especially you college freshman!)? Feel free to include whatever else about your (potential) frat/sorority if you'd like, but of course, keep what needs to be secret...a secret.

Also, I know a lot of people generally don't like these types of organizations, so if all you have to say is how you dislike them, I prefer you just not. I'd like to keep this thread on the upside of things, not "frat guys r so rood" or whatever. I'm interested in knowing who is in one/wants to be in one, not who hates them. Thank you! I don't expect this thread to be popular at all really lol.

Also not hating, since I've learned about a lot of professional frats at my school which is interesting, but Greek life is intimidating to me. It's not just the hazing (whether fact or fiction), but the whole concept of a social community within the university; such a large physical and social presence is a bit daunting.

Edit: Oh dang this might get deleted. I seriously might look into the professional frats though. I'm largely ignorant of really anything that goes on, so I might have to do some research. I hear med school likes when you get off your butt and do something.

Now that I think about it, I don't personally know a single person who's in a fraternity or a sorority. I can think of a few people I know of who are in one, but all of my friends who went to college aren't in any. Come to think of it, I don't know what they, er...do. Like, I know the movie stereotypes and everything but I highly doubt that real life organizations are like that. Is it just some kind of bonding ordeal?

Nah, I doubt it. You didn't express it rudely or ignorantly. But idk, as long as you're not doing anything illegal, I find the crazy things just another part of the college experience. But essentially, it is a bonding thing.

Anyway, I'm interested in becoming a brother of Kappa Kappa Psi. It's a co-ed music fraternity, and I'm gonna go out for it in the spring semester. I really want to be a part of this organization. I want to do more with my college life, and I want to be in the brotherhood. They're so tight nit and it just seems amazing, and much less tense than other fraternities/sororities I've heard about. And I don't want to be in a sorority anyway. All girls...no thanks. But mainly, I want to give back to music, because they help out the music programs at school. Even if it's something as small as just setting up for concerts, it's still nice to say I helped.

Whoa mush. Ick!

Well actually, such things are not party to my culture... I think. I'd like the sort of exact and laconic explanation as to what you refer to, that 'Googling' does not tend to provide, if you wouldn't mind.
You can't really Google a bonding experience, but you can Google a specific group. The different organizations do different things, so they're not all going to be exactly alike. You'd have to Google one that you're interested in, like Kappa Kappa Psi or Phi Mu Alpha. Those are just examples, though. They're both music fraternities. I don't know much about anything that's not KKPsi though.

I don't understand why I even bothered with this thread anymore. lol

Edit: Fun fact. There is a Kappa Kappa Kappa. They go by Tri-Kap instead of the other obvious name that could have been used.

Okay, so my college had advertisements for fraternities and sororities, but they were for ones like a Jewish fraternity or an Asian sorority, and basically the only ones I ever heard about were for ones I couldn't even join so I never thought about joining one. Of course, my university had "colleges" which were all theoretically organized around themes or whatnot. Like the college I was affiliated with was the one that was supposed to be for art students, although you didn't have to be an artist and art students didn't have to be affiliate with this college. (And you had a good chance of getting into the one you wanted, too.) It was just that they'd put on more "art" related events or whatever. So, basically, I had a similar kind of experience, but without the same close-knit living experience with strangers, although later on I did end up sharing an apartment with people who were in my college and I did make friends with people there. And if that's what people are looking for in fraternities and sororities then I think that's great, but I wouldn't have wanted the extra stuff that they come with and was pretty pleased with the more relaxed set up I had.

So, yeah. I guess that isn't quite the response that you were looking for, but ah, well, it's there now.

Here?? you have to because it's for the ones who are far from their homes so it's more of a place to stay in till you go back home at the weekend.

Do we even have these organisations in Australia? I don't think we do.
I've always wanted to go visit an American educational facility for like a week, just to see if it really is the same as the movies. Mostly for the try hard pop punk/college band scene.
