38 .... at least since it came to the US playing Pokemon ...

I got the first one because I liked the idea, collecting monsters, raising and training them, and battling them. After playing it I got hooked on these specific monsters, pokemon are so cute and cool. The game's battle system is perfect, a nice balance of strategy and stat building, item management, and team spirit that it eventually became almost an addiction, really it just replaces all my other games until it becomes redundant, but my drive to play is renewed with each new generation.

I never liked the anime or any of the spin-off games, like Pokemon Dungeon. Those just never appealed to me. Most people in my age group who play the game now started when the first one was released. Yeah, I do actually know a lot of people in my age group who play the game. ;) I just don't get along with them well, always too serious.
If you add me, please message me so I can reciprocate. No, garbage does not make a cute Pokemon, and it smells funny.

Pokemon is from my childhood, same with countless others. It's a series I grew up loving and playing. I'm not one to abandon things I like just because I get older. While it's a game playable by kids, I don't find Pokemon to be exclusively for kids. I know they have to recognize they have a huge adult/teen fanbase that have been loyal to them.

38 .... at least 28 of those years playing Pokemon ...
Is this a typo? The games have been out for 17 years in Japan.

I started playing the year Pokemon came out in the US. I was really excited because of the "You start your journey at 10" thing Pokemon had going on and I was turning 10 that very month it came out. That was 15 years ago~

Pokemon has been with me more than half my life and I hope it stays for the rest of it. 70 more years please~

Well, for me Pokemon has been an important element of my life ever since the first games came out. I remember i got a green Gameboy color and Pokemon Yellow for Christmas, after months and months of watching my friends play. I instantly fell in love with the game, and of course, with the Pokemon. Since then, i´ve always liked playing the games, and back as a kid i also watched the anime. Then there was that puberty/awkward phase were pokemon became less interesting because your friends stopped playing and said it was childish. For me, this happened around the Diamond/Pearl release. But when BW came out, and especially when BW2 were announced, i found this forum and got back into it a 100%.

SO, long story short, Pokemon is an element that has been there all my life, and i think the games are as fun as always, or even more now that im an adult and can play them properly

It's my childhood and I don't care what anyone else says. I still find it interesting and as long as I do I will continue to stay a fan of it in some way, shape, or form. I ... honestly don't have much else to input here except being straight to the point

Only nostalgia really pulls me back into Pokemon. If I was even a tiny bit less of a fan of Pokemon when I was younger I probably wouldn't be here.

Also for roleplaying purposes I guess, so that I can handle writing about new Pokemon.

It's a game that I grew up with, so I guess I would say nostalgia. I've tried to play plenty of different games but can't seem to find anything I like better than Pokemon.

Each generation is more and more complex so that keeps me more or less interested (even though a lot of my team ends up being the same each time!)

Not a typo, bad math and memory combined. ;) I should have said "since it's been out in the US" .... I honestly can't remember my first Gemboy games.

I'm 26 and I still love Pokemon, For me since I'm a Comic Book writer and being a fan of it since 97 I will say it has to do with the sense of adventure and nostalgia.

Watching the episodes in the Late 90's every weekend morning on Kids WB was awesome!!! and Playing Blue Version as well when I got my Game Boy color for getting student of the month in sixth grade.

But I do not know it is just something I could never grow out of with my other likes since I was a child.

I think our buddy means 'rabid nostalgia' when he says 'pokephilia' cuz I started when my dad got me a shiny red Color device (not a standard GB, not Advanced, but a Color) w/ Pokemon Red. (Irony.) And my old adventures in Blocky Kanto sort of paved the way for the future Gens. Also grew up w/ Gold, so better believe that's why I respect HG so much.

It's the things we love as kids, hate as teenagers and love again when we're adults.
While traveling from Johto to Kanto, you'll end up at a certain building in Viridian City. When you go against the trainer there, that's not just Feraligator biting you, that's life.

Note: Seriously, the dude always has all three starters. How cool is that?

That's not what Pokephillia is. At all.

I still play Pokemon as an adult nearly in my thirties because I still find the games fun. Part of that is nostalgia and part of it is being so involved in the fandom. Pokemon is the only fandom I've been active in every day for ten years now and I'm not tired of it. Reading about and discussing the games and changes to the franchise still make me excited. The games are just fun, and it doesn't matter my age. I still enjoy them and will still keep playing.

I've always like Pokemon... It's just that it wasn't as accepted as it is now. Lesson to learn here is don't let others judge what you do. Playing Pokemon isn't going to hurt anyone so if you want to play it, play it. ;3

...Nostalgia. Memories are the ties that bind me true, the light that guides me through.

Simply that when something leaves an impression, often that impression is deep and never discarded or filled; save for times when necessity demands it.

It's the creative aspect that's always brought me back to the series. When I very first got into it, I'd draw the monsters over and over, even though I wasn't that great, and I couldn't resist making up my own as I went along.

It's just such a great universe to expand on. It's vast and complex and distinctive, but there's so much room for new additions at the same time. It's designed to be so open to new stories, new characters, new worlds.

I love seeing what people invent in their extended fanons. This is why I'm an addict.

For me its probably Nostalgia, and all the cool looking Pokemon moving around and saying their names/cry in the anime or in the games. Keeps making come back for more.

Anime, the games, the TCG, all of the online fan stuff. Pokemon will never leave me.

I started with Pokemon when I was 11 years old (I believe thats how old I was back in Nov. 1998 when I first laid my eyes on the anime) - now that I'm going to be 28 years old (on Friday the 13th this December) I'm still a huge fan of Pokemon today as I was when it first started.
I ♥ Foxes and Cats!! - art i drew myself
instead of 'Catch 'em All' for me would be "gotta Pet 'Em All"

Nostalgia all the way.
I've been practically spoonfed pokemon. Always been playing pokemon ever since I got a gameboy and when I was a kid I watched it from the first episode aired here.

To be honest I'm still in love with most first generation pokemon like Vulpix/Ninetails, Charizard, Pikachu and lots of other cute pokemon.

But then again I think pokemon isn't necessarily aimed at kids, maybe the tv series is but the game is something else all together. For me it's like other rpg games but with some sort of tamagotchi I can play with and i guess people from the older generation know tamagotchis and their powers xD

The anime started showing here in 2003 and I was 11 then. I really loved the idea of a world full of mysterious creatures and the idea of creating a team of small cute Pokemon and evolving them into powerful ones.
I knew there was a Pokemon game out there but nobody I knew had a Gameboy back then so I had to wait till 2009 to play the game (that was Pokemon Red)

The games are much better than the anime and I've been hooked since.

As many of the above nostalgia is a big part of why im here.

I guess i never really grew out of what my parents called "The pokemon phase"
There is no better feeling than coming home from a long day at work and sit down and play some pokemon, there really isn't (I've tried other things, there really isn't)
And once you've got so attached to something, its really hard to let it go. So i don't think i ever will. I can picture myself at age 80 still playing whatever pokemon games on whatever console they come up with, probably battling and trading with my grandchildren.

I have a pokemon wallpaper on my computer at work too ^^ It always puts a smile on my face to see pikachu when i'm down at work.
No matter how old i get.. I will never stop loving Pokèmon <3

I'm 21, and I'm not sure if my reason is appropriate but...Ever played Pokemon stoned? Best experience ever. I've been playing for about 12-13 years now, and I think the same basic principals of coolness still apply to every Generation of Pokemon. Reason Blastoise was so cool? Big ass turtle monster with cannons. Reason Samurott is cool? Sea otter samurai with shell armor swords. People who stopped playing after Gen 1 ragequit without letting the other Gens have a chance. Pokemon is a great game, and mindset to be in. You can connect with your little virtual dudes, and play a well-made franchise.

Reason I'm still playing it now, is because Pokemon never really left my life. It's been a franchise which has been with me just about my whole life, and it's just something that I've never grown tired of. I mean, I guess I have certain points where I'm totally obsessed with the franchise, and others where my involvement with the game stems entirely from the fact that I'm a moderator on a forum dedicated to it, but it's just always there. I can't say there was much of a reason to why I originally fell in love with the franchise, other than the fact that my 3 year old self enjoyed the games and the anime and found it to be a fun pass-time, which lead me into the fandom, and had me follow the franchise for years to come. I guess Pokemon was a pretty creative and innovative idea back when the originals saw the light of the world, but I reckon the Pokemon themselves were mainly what brought me into it all, and I reckon that's part of the reason why the franchise grew so big. If it'd been regular animals or bad-ass monsters or something, I honestly doubt it would've affected the size of the fandom, because I find Pokemon to have a certain charm to them, which attracts both younger and older people, explaining why we have so many different people of so many different ages still following the franchise.

All in all, reason I'm still into the franchise is because it's still a great franchise, and because they're still able to bring something new to the table with each new release, keeping it all exciting enough for me to stay. Even if I've been kind of disconnected from the games since the fourth generation due to not owning either a DS or a 3DS, it still manages to keep me interested through just watching playthroughs or simply discussing it here on the forum. I simply like Pokemon because it's a likable concept :p
