Or 2008. So take your age and minus it by 5. What was your music taste like at that age? Who were your favorite artists? What were your favorite songs? Would you say you've grown out of that kind of music, or do you still listen to it? If you don't, do you think you could go back to it? All that and whatever else you feel is relevant to the topic.

21-5 is 16. Wow can't believe I was 16 five years ago. But anyway when I was 16 I was really into pop music. I love The Black Eyed Peas and considered them my favorite artist. Still waiting for new music from them as "Boom Boom Pow" wasn't out yet. I was really into artist like Rihanna and P!nk but also some Beyonce, Ciara, Maroon 5, Sean Paul, Gwen Stefani, Metro Station, Chris Brown (this was before he became known as the guy who abused Rihanna lol) , Fergie, and some rock/pop-punk bands such Fall Out Boy, Paramore, All American Rejects, Daughtry, Switchfoot, Panic! At The Disco , The Ting Tings, Simple Plan, 3 Doors Down, Nickeback (Yeah... I know. I'm sorry for thinking they were good. :P ) The Fray, Green Day, The Gorillaz, and Coldplay. Lady Gaga was starting to blow up back then and I was starting to get into her in late 2008, but it wasn't till 2009/2010 when I really got obsessed with her. Pretty much what was popular in 2008 and what I found "good".

Some of my favorite songs back then include "Disturbia" and "Don't Stop The Music" by Rihanna, "Shut Up and Let Me Go" and "That's Not My Name" by The Ting Tings, "Shake It" by Metro Station, "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay, "Forever" and "Kiss Kiss" by Chris Brown, "Crushcrushcrush" by Paramore, "Paper Planes" by M.I.A , "Bleeding Love" by
Leona Lewis , "Heartless" and "Love Lockdown" by Kanye West, "American Boy" by Estelle, "If I Never See Your Face again by Maroon 5, and alot of other songs on this list.

GOD I hate 16 year old me and his taste in music. >_> My taste in music now is definitely different. The artists I still like today are Fall out Boy, Paramore, Panic! At The Disco, Green Day and Coldplay and The Fray to an extent. Even some Maroon 5, but I'm honestly not a fan of their new album, Overexposed. Anything from Hands All Over and before is good imo. I'm most into alternative rock and indie rock/pop now and some electronic artists, such as Owl City, Deadmau5, Daft Punk, Passion Pit, The Postal Service and Empire of the Sun. Given that I didn't know of him till 4 years ago, I didn't include Fireflies or Owl City as something 16 year old me enjoyed. That said, I can't really see myself going back to that style. I can enjoy a few popular songs of today such as Zedd's "Clarity" and Avicii 's "Wake Me Up', but I've lost an appreciation for most pop music of today. Yeah my music taste is still weird, but I can say in 5 years, I'll probably won't be as embarrassed by my 21 year old self and will probably still enjoy the same kind of music.

I listened to punk bands. There was literally not a single exception. I also listened to a lot of movie soundtracks, but most of the time I listened to Harry Potter soundtracks. I wouldn't give Electronic Dance Music the time of day, and that's something that I listen to a lot now. Though, it isn't my favorite type of music and is just something that I feel is easy to listen to and makes the day go by fast while I'm at work. I'm allowed to listen to music while I'm at work, so I try to make the time go by fast by listening to that... or audio converted files of the TV shows Roseanne and Daria.

Your taste was better 5 years ago, op.
Highly debateable.

So, 5 years ago I was 20, so my music tastes were already solidifying by that point. Rock, classic rock, symphonic metal, a little electronic music, video game scores, movie scores.. and.. Michelle Branch (I don't listen to other artists with similar style or genre). My tastes haven't changed much since. However, 5 years before that, I listened to a lot of those "emo" bands, or teenage angst bands like Simple Plan, and Good Charlotte. I also listened to Linkin Park, Mudvayne, Static-X, System of a Down, Rammstein, and Slipknot. I don't go out of my way to listen to those artists anymore, but if one of their songs happens to come on the radio, I'll rock out to it, with the exception of Slipknot. For some reason, I can't stand them now.

In your opinion, yes, that's probably just your taste of music. People can change a lot in 5 years and I just don't find that kind of music good anymore. Everyone progressively changes their style in general as they get older. It's all just subjective really. I'd love to hear what you were into 5 years ago. I may think it's good, I may not, but that's just my opinion on what's good music. In 5 years my music taste may massively change or just change a little. Who knows.

Oh my God, can you please not plagiarize me? Seriously, that first paragraph is nearly word for word what I said on EGC. I notice things, man. I have eyes. They're glaring at you rn.

Anyway, my taste back then was pretty much the same when I was 16, but it leaned more on alternative bands and such. I was really into Underoath, Deftones, James Blunt, Nickelback (Jesus help me), Mindless Self Indulgence, Lady Gaga, Breaking Benjamin, and uhhh I think that's about it? I'm probably forgetting someone lol. I still listen to most of these, just not as heavily as I did back then. My taste in music has broadened and bettered since those days.

Edit: When I turn 22 and post in another one of these threads, my music taste will have finally caught up with me. I was 17 when I started listening to and loving Kings of Leon, and a bunch of other different artists. Good ol' 17, man.

When I was 10 I didn't really like music. The only band I thoroughly enjoyed and listened to a lot was The Monkees, whom I still like very much.
Yup, that's it.
I like Sandshrews. A lot. I am Sandshrews number 1 fan. And don't you deny it.

My music taste in 5 years hasn't really changed. I still find myself liking some rap and pop music, though I'm starting to enjoy rock and nu metal more (Especially Linkin Park). K Pop is whole different story. I've never really got into any "girl groups," strangely enough, despite my tendency for pop music.

I was 15 at the time and I was experimenting with power metal. 2008...Sonata Arctica's Unia had been out for a little while and I was still trying to get a feel for it. To be honest, it wasn't my favorite album and to this day I still don't have a favorable opinion of it. I'm more indifferent towards it, if anything.

At some point around this time I bought a copy of Serj Tankian's Elect the Dead (which I continue to keep on my bookcase). Man, I bought a lot of music back then.

Five years ago when I was fourteen, I used to limit myself mostly to metal music. My friends used to listen to them all the time, and I thought that it'd be cool to do the same. I had a lot of favorite bands, and some of them were In Flames, Dragonforce, Led Zeppelin, High on Fire, Overkill, Slipknot, Metallica, Disturbed, Children of Bodom, and Megadeth.

Nowadays, I don't really care what type of music I listen to. I'll listen to anything that I could possibly get my hands on, haha.

Aside from top-40s songs or a track I found on Youtube that I really liked, I wasn't into music at all five years ago. James Blunt, James Morrison, Coldplay, Jason Mraz, Mika, Fort Minor, Black Eyed Peas and Owl City were the kind of artists I listened to. I still listen to some of them now, actually.
