lol so... were you ever afraid of monsters coming to get you as a child? How about having a fear of darkness? :O What kind of things scared you at night before going to bed every night?

For me, I have acquired this strange fear of darkness. I've had two darkness dreams twice. One was a horror-related dream, and I had a second one about ghost hunting. I end up waking up and turning on my light because of both dreams. As for boogie monsters and other stuff... I don't remember being too scared. It's funny because now, I'm terrified of darkness. Sometimes it's so bad that I imagine some creepy old thing is going to stand outside our sliding door with a cheshire grin. O_O

...yeah, I'm weird.

I used to have that when I was younger. I am really afraid of monsters and that sort, not that I like them now or anything but the feeling has gone down now. Whenever I felt scared as a kid, I went under the covers then shield myself with the magical blanket.

One of the worse cases that I've scared myself enough to not fall asleep when I heard a random woman humming into a sad song in the middle of the night. It was eerily creepy and enticing. It got me up that night, but it scared me all the same. I cried and cried a bit after that because I felt like someone is looking at me. Good thing my parents woke up and they let me sleep with them that night. Aside from that incident, anyway, I can pretty much handle the darkness. When it's dark indoors, it is okay. Pitch black darkness indoors is pretty okay too. But being in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night, I don't think that's something I can handle now.

Oh, and don't think that you were weird. I was for once scared of the moon for some reason. I don't know why but I avoided looking at it as a kid. :)

I'm a little scared of the dark, but when I was a kid, I was even more scared. I used to think that monsters would be able to get me if my room was completely dark, so I always had my lights turned on before going to bed. I used to make my mom check under the bed every night, because I thought that monsters were hiding there. I used to make my mom check the closets, too. If my mom was busy, then I would make my dad do all these work instead. Also, I was extremely scared of dolls when I was about four years old, because I used to think that they were all possessed by ghosts. xD

Not really. Although when I started secondary school, one of my teachers decided to tell everyone ghost stories, and that our school was haunted... long story short, I was scared of ghosts for like two years. Also around the same time one of my friends decided to bring some sort of game with zombies in it (I forget which) to my house, and I was scared of being attacked by zombies in the dark for a week or so.

When I was little, yes. I used to be extremely terrified of monsters under my bed and that was because I kept hearing noises from under there which turned out to be the wind outside my window. I had to sleep on the floor on my parents' room on some nights or on the couch with the TV on sometimes. As I got older I got over that fear and just slept normally.

I've been scared of the dark for as long as I can remember... I remember waking up as a child and seeing a group of monsters talking about eating me... Then I actually woke up. {XD}

I'm not scared of the dark or anything, but sometimes I sike myself out with things and are afraid to look. Like when you just watched a scary movie and your closet is open at night and something looks like a person. I'll stare at that thing for an hour, but won't get up and do anything about it.

I was never afraid of monsters living on my bed, but what I was scared of was venturing into the laundry room at night (where my house's back door is) without lights on and staring out the window looking into the back yard because I used to think that something would pop out suddenly and scare me. @[email protected]

When I was in kindergarten I had a bunch of books stacked on a shelf in my closet, and I kept the closet door open at night. I used to think I saw tiny little lions running across the tops of the books, and that eventually, they were gonna see me (and then Idk nibble on my toes maybe?). Yeah, it made no sense, but I definitely scared myself.

I was, and still am, terrified of murderers and stuff like that. Whenever I take the recycling out I'm terrified that I'll be shot or stabbed. Im a really paranoid person.
I was never afraid of monsters though.
I like Sandshrews. A lot. I am Sandshrews number 1 fan. And don't you deny it.

People assume that the dark is a thing of evil. A cloak for goblins and demons to wear as they find their way to their next baleful feast. In my life I have learned otherwise. I have seen that the very darkness that hides our fears and contorts our dreams is indifferent. A shroud to conceal any and all who seek refuge, whatever their intentions.
So why are we afraid of the shadows? Is it a primal fear, grown from not knowing what may be within it? The subconsious knowledge that when you drift to far into the shadows they become uninclined to let you go? Or, perhaps, it's something more sinister. The recognition of a great undoer; solid, yet intangible, a devourer of minds, corrupter of souls.
Me? I used to fear the dark; as a great unknown frontier. But now I understand that it's like an ocean. It in itself is not a monster, but it offers home to them.

TL;DR:
Don't fear the dark itself, only what it hides, and it's influence.
