We may have had a physical field of both types, but due to the fact they were exclusively special prior to the physical/special split was just coincidental most of the moves stayed special. Most types usually tended to stick more towards the category they were aligned with prior to the split, such as Ground, Dark and Rock mainly learning physical attacks and ones like Ice, Fire or Psychic mainly getting special moves.
All Dark type moves did special damage, though, despite being clearly physical attacks, like Bite, Crunch and Feint.

Anyway: what's your thought on Water Pledge and Hydro Cannon? They are restricted to Water starters only. Do you like that or should they be accessible to more Pokemon and which ones would you like to learn them in that case?

That was prior to 4th Gen though, to clarify. I tend to leave the "before physical/special split" stuff in the past because of how terrible it was.

I don't think the starter-exclusive moves need to be expanded, because the three Pledge moves are linked in a way, having similar effects in battle. I feel like these moves should be left the way they are.

Reasons 4 joining: Water mons are pretty cool, it's amongst my favourite types, and is my favourite starter type. Surf is badass too. And the first mon I brought to tje league was a water mon so that is cool. Plus a lot of cool pokes are water mons so yeh.

What's your thought on Water Pledge and Hydro Cannon? I despise them with a passion. The former is weak as hell, the other is literally a Hyper beam clone. Gah.
I… might put something interesting here eventually.

Surf is a great move, one of the few HMs that isn't just essential, but reliable as well since most Water-types tend to use special moves and benefit well from it. And I bet you (and many others) may not have noticed, but Water Pledge (and the other Pledge moves) actually had its Base Power buffed to 80 in 6th Gen, so it actually now hits decently hard.

Hope you enjoy the club!

Also, a notice for everyone: Username change season is now underway, so if anyone in this club is planning a username change, do inform me so I can update your name on the member list so we can avoid confusion.

- Your nickname: Coby
- Your Partner Pokémon: Swampert
- Reason for joining the club: Water has been my favourite type since I started playing, mostly because I grew up by the seaside and I've always had a fascination with marine animals. My Masters dissertation was about shark and dolphin mythology. ;)
- CURRENT TOPIC: Which kind of Water-type Pokémon do you prefer? I generally prefer pure Water types. However, I also like Ice and Fairy so I like the idea of those combinations with Water. I would love to see a new Water Fairy Pokemon as opposed to a retyping, that would probably be an instant favourite!

First, I think I think Hydro Cannon (and the other two) shouldn't be Hyper Beam variants, they should be Double-Edge variants instead. Okay, I'm straying too far from the main topic. :P

Regarding the topic, I have no problem with the moves being exclusive to our starters, since they are quite the star and symbol of the region itself and they should be as strong as the pseudo-legendary Pokemon tbh.

What's your thought on Water Pledge and Hydro Cannon? i so not really care about Water pledge, but Hydro cannon is not bad, it s useful if the bokemon is about to die or in-game on the shift mode where you can switch out, after koing the enemy with this move

Hello, welcome to PokeCommunity's Water-type Club! (: It's really great seeing new faces around here, hopefully you'll all stay active! (:

Since there isn't much discussion to the last topic, we'll move on to our next one.

Let's talk about the dual typing: Water/Fairy. A type that is exclusively for Marill and Azumarill, as of Gen VI. Remember this isn't Pokemon of The Week, so let's focus on discussing the typing itself. (:

Thanks for the welcome Sun!

Forgetting the Pokemon and talking about the typing itself, I think Water/Fairy is my favourite type combination in the game. I hope they create new Pokemon for this type, maybe even some sort of mermaid/sprite/nymph legendary? One can only hope! :D

I used an Azumarill in my 2nd X run. It was great while it lasted, especially with Huge power and all, but sadly... It got boxed. I had a rule that if a teammate exceeds the starters level by 3 levels, he or she will be permaboxed. Azumarill levels up shockingly fast, so she got the boot around before the 6th gym. For once, the gen6 exp share is bad >_<.

Or are we talking about it's typing? Water Fairy is cool I guess, not much of an opinion on that typing.
I… might put something interesting here eventually.

I think Water/Fairy might become a pretty good type combo (not to mention that Water-type nullifies the super-effectiveness of Steel-types against Fairy), and since Marill lines changed its typing into one, it become a bit more useful in battle. However, I wish there are more of Water/Fairy typing Pokémon if possible.

That reminds me, Milotic could have been a Water/Fairy!
But hey, there's always room for a Mega Evolution form! (:

I also agree that we need an another Water/Fairy, to be specific, a special based one!

I have to agree with the nullifying part. Additionally, Fairy-type moves are not effective against Fire-type Pokemon, while Water-type moves are super effective to the fiery Pokemon. (: So that makes another one type that syncs greatly with our favorite aquatic type.

Milotic would have been a great choice for retyping! A Mega Milotic with Fairy typing would be beyond awesome :D

Fingers crossed, although I have a feeling we will have to wait a while to find out!

I feel like Water/Fairy is a good synergistic type combination, and while there's pesky dual Grass/Poison Pokemon out there, our lovable Azumarill can get Ice Punch to get past them. The only weakness the combination gains is Poison, but it does gain some new resistances and that helps Azumarill be the king of cute Pokemon on the competitive field.

I really like the Aqua Bunny of Doom. It doesn't look menacing and until gen 4 it wasn't that great (even though Huge Power was already in gen 3), but as soon as it gained its physical Water STAB, it was destined to be great. It's also decently bulky, being able to take a couple hits, before it goes down and with Sap Sipper it even gains an immunity to what otherwise would be one of its big weaknesses: Grass type attacks.

You have so many options with it, it's nbelievable: Aqua Jet for priority, Belly Drum to destroy everything, Ice Punch and Play Rough to beat giant monstrosities a.k.a. Dragon types, Knock Off to take away all the items, Scald because best move in the entire game, Encore because why not, Whirpool is sadly not as accessable but still exists.

Azumarill is crazy, just hopefully its Ability doesn't get nerfed.

As for the typing itself, Nichole has said it, they are good synergistic combination. (Is it me or any types that are paired with the Water seem to be great.)

Water/Fairy, is a type that can work as both offensive and defensive. On the Double and Triple Battle area: Just imagine if there's a Water/Fairy that functions that acts a supporter and a healer like the Flabebe line for the Water-type (in Flabebe's case they support the Grass-type, while not a Grass Pokemon). They are gonna completely dominate the battle scene. So it is also understandable why Drizzle was nerfed in Gen VI. @[email protected]

Hey since a good deal of users (like me) changed usernames we should better starting posting that we changed for the club owner to see. I changed from Absol!!!
I've updated the OP with the name changes, but still if anyone has been missed do let me know.

But anyways, Sun is definitely right with my statement. 5th Gen competitive was so centric around the "weather wars" and Water-types literally ran rampant around the battlefield, thanks to Politoed and its Drizzle, not to mention all the benefits Water-types get in the rain. Sadly the war came to an end by cutting down the weather abilities to five turns instead of infinite and Politoed went back to NU where he belonged.

I think the Water/Fairy type is excellent. The adorable Azumarill received a big boost this Gen by gaining the Fairy Typing. As he reaches the Final Stage of his evolution so early I found him to be a Disc One Nuke of sorts in my Fairy Monotype especially with Huge Power. :)

It is definitely a Disc One Nuke (Btw I'm surprised with your usage of TV trope terms). Even without the Fairy-typing, it's one insane Pokemon!

Can you believe it, it helped wiped out Elesa's Zebstrika in one of my B2 or W2 plays. @[email protected] That's a friggin Electric-type with a decent attack stat we are talking about... One of these days I might do an Azumarill run. Okk okk, just a mere thought as well. :P

That is very true.:) Huge Power is a great ability for the Aqua Mouse.

Disc One Nuke - Something you receive early on which is unusually powerful for that stage of the game. :)

A Solo Azumarill run seems like an excellent idea. :)

I am currently (very slowly) doing a Blastoise solo run on Leaf Green. I am up to the Soul Badge. :)

I understand Venusaur, but Blastoise? Why the turtle? Is it because of the 20th Anniversary?

I used Venusaur (Along with Vileplume) in my recent Red Monotype.

Squirtle was my first ever Pokémon in the Original Blue. Whilst I am not doing anything special for the 20th Anniversary it is fitting somewhat I am using the Shellfish Pokémon in my first ever solo Pokémon run. :)

If I remember my first ever Elite Four winning team featured Starmie (Ace) and Blastoise. At the time Misty was my favourite character in the Anime so I think it may have been. :)
