Steel-type Pokémon ~ September 30 - October 7

Welcome to the Favorite Pokémon Tournament here in Pokémon Voting Polls, where we aim to determine who PokéCommunity’s favorite Pokémon is! This will be a grand undertaking that will span across a couple of months, where we will start with hundreds of Pokémon, in hopes to rank the most popular Pokémon in the eyes of you- the members of the PokéCommunity!
If you haven't already, please read through the rest of the Rules/FAQ below to catch up to speed with what this tournament is all about:

Spoiler:
  • Every week, there will be a new poll stickied at the top of PVP. Each thread will have a different elemental type, which will include a list of Pokémon to vote on.
  • You aren’t required to pick just one Pokémon- you can vote for as many as you like to ensure your favorites get through. The Pokémon with the most votes at the end of the week will face off against the other winning Pokémon in a final poll to crown the champion!
  • Not only will the winning Pokémon from each poll move on to the final vote, but they'll be featured in Pokémon Voting Polls' forum splash for a week.
  • In order to preserve space, we’ve grouped all of the applicable evolutions in a Pokémon family together. If a family rather than an individual were to win the tournament, we would hold one extra run-off poll to decide the most popular member of the family.
  • In the event of a tie at the end of the week, Brendino will have the tie-breaking vote.
  • Legendary Pokémon are not included in this round of voting. Don’t worry, though- they’ll be voted upon near the end of the tournament to round out the final number of candidates.
  • Furthermore, members who vote and post for a majority of weeks during the tournament will receive an emblem depicting the winning Pokémon!
  • If there are any questions that you need answered, feel free to leave a comment in this thread or send a VM to Brendino to get it sorted out.

Now that you know what the tournament is all about, what are you waiting for? Polls will remain open until October 7th, so get voting!

Bronzong of course! It's such a derpy and fun Pokémon with a more interesting origin/background story than any other that I've seen. There are a lot of Steel-types that I like, in fact it's one of my favourite types, but Bronzong is my favourite by far. Also love Bastiodon and Steelix!

I personally really like Mawile. I don't really have a reason why but if anything I think it is its design. Skarmory would have to be my second favorite from the list so I'll be voting for those two. ♥

I didn't vote for much, but not too much.

Magnemite line - One of my fave Steel-types, thanks to its good defensive typing that gives it a good amount of resistances and it's one of B2/W2's best early-game Pokemon due to being able to wall a certain Gym entirely.

Ferroseed line - a.k.a. the best Steel-type in competitive play, this thing has just two weaknesses, hefty defense and an ability that damages you when you hit it directly.

Excadrill - It's a frickin' Ground/Steel mole that has the ability to dish out damage and dish it out hard. Loved this thing a lot thanks to Iris in the anime.

Mawile - I once wasn't a fan of this thing due to how overlooked it was, but with 6th Gen giving it a Fairy-type, a Mega Evolution and the Huge Power ability I am starting to see how great it will be at stopping Dragons in its tracks!
Gone forever for personal reasons.

I voted for the Bronzong family due to the reasons that Alex stated before about it being such an interesting Pokemon with a great back story. Not to mention the fact that it is an awesome Pokemon to use in battle with it's great supportership abilities. I also voted for the Magnemite family because they have been some of my favorites from the very beginning and once Magnezone was added in gen 4 they became even more amazing.

I voted: Aggron, Mawile, and ???? for Bastiodon.

Aggron is just so badass. Come on it's a triceratops with a steel spiked helmet! Plus, aron is so little and cute, I needed to catch one the first time I encountered it in the cave.

Mawile was so weird when I first discovered it many years ago. When I finally caught one, and viewed Mawile from the back, I finally understood how cool and interesting this pokemon was. It is a standout!

Lastly, Bastiodon is my favorite fossil pokemon of the first five generations. I love how its face is shaped like a castle wall as well as a bulldozer. It is the epitome of a tank! This guy is very under-appreciated though :(

Aggron. Would've voted for Skarmory, but it was such a pain to catch in FR/LG.

I like Steel types. I wish there were more of them, but maybe X and Y will bring a surplus.

My absolute favorite Steel-type Pokémon is Metagross. I din't even know it existed until by battle with Steven years ago when I first played Sapphire. It looks so cool and I like its design concept. Two Metang fused together, creating the four-brained Metagross. Metagross also reminds me of Destiny Deoxys, so there're some bonus points.

I also really like Bronzong. As others have stated, it has a really interesting origin. I don't really like to use it in the games, but it can take many hits. Its Gyro Ball also wiped out Candice without a problem, but Gyro Ball was the only good thing about it.

Last but not least, Aggron. I used it in the special August challenge and it, along with Haxorus, took down every opponent without a problem (besides Iris). Aggron is just plain powerful and makes up for its slow speed with high attack and defense.

I vote for Skarmory because I've used it a lot, in almost all of my Ruby playthroughs actually, and because it's a really cool looking pokémon on top of being strong and great in defense. I wish it got a Mega evolution!

I also vote for Metagross because it's so incredibly badass. Psychic/Steel and looks like an alien tank. Plus, I liked when Steven flew on it in the manga :3

Steelix, Skarmory, Mawile, Aggron, Metang, Metagross, even Jirachi, Scizor, Escavalier, and Bisharp. How am I supposed to decide?!

Skarmory - The first Steel type I ever used in a team. Initially, I nicknamed him Scarip (scar+rip), but then I changed that to Skyler because I thought it was more fitting for my flier. I love his design because 1) biirrrds and 2) blades for wings.
Metagross - Great typing, offense, bulk, movepool, agility, this one is a beast! It never fails me in-game nor competitive. I love its shiny form. It also was the first shiny breed I ever RNG abused back in April 2009. I thought the nickname Caesium was perfect, as it is a silvery gold metal.

Steel this round, eh? I like things that resist basically everything (which contrasts with my usual sweeper method of battling). How about...

Magne- line - I like Magnemite and Magneton's looks (Magnezone kinda puts me off in that department), even though I hated going against Watson's Magneton in Emerald. Magnezone is pretty reliable in battle (except against Ground-types without an Air Balloon).

Aron/Lairon/Aggron - Even though this line doesn't have much going for it in terms of Speed or Special Defense, I still somehow like them. Probably because of that high Attack stat on Aggron, or maybe because it can learn a whole variety of moves.

Beldum/Metang/Metagross - I use Metagross quite often in battling and my single-player experiences, so I can say that I am fond of this Pokemon.

Other: Empoleon - While I didn't choose Piplup when I played Pearl, I had a friend breed a Piplup for me. It turned into one of the starters I used (and still use) a lot.

Other: Lucario - I'm not sure if I can count Lucario twice, since 1) I voted for it in the Fighting round and 2) I would have two "Others", but if it counts, I'll vote for it as well!

On a side note, Mawile will get a belated shout-out if its Mega Evolution is pretty respectable in Gen VI.

I couldn't pick a favourite so I had to vote for everyone.

I'd say my first option would be to click Beldum because I like Metagross, then Bronzong for it's awesome design, and my last preference would be dat Pokémon you didn't include, EMPOLEON. So yeah, about every guy looks awesome, I think Steel is an awesome type XD.

It was a tough choice between Metagross and Skarmory, but I ended up selecting Skarmory. Skarmory is quite an awesome Pokémon design-wise, and when it comes to battling, it actually isn't so bad. It's resistant to grass and bug, and it's got complete immunity over poison and ground. It may be weak to electric- and fire-type attacks, but it can easily overcome them with its high defensive stats. Plus, it has an ability known as Sturdy, which, while it's at full health, always allows it to survive with at least one HP—regardless of how strong the opponent's attack is.

This Pokémon has a ton of moves in its arsenal that you may find to be quite helpful, such as Spikes, Roost, Whirlwind, and Brave Bird. If you put all four of these attacks together in a moveset, then you'll be able to stall your opponent for countless amount of turns. d:

I would've voted for Metagross, too, but I wanted to stick with only one Pokémon this time.

Here's my votes:

Mawile: I just love Mawile. It's design is interesting and one of my all time favourites. And X+Y are giving it so much more battling potential.

Empoleon: While not represented on this poll, Empoleon is probably my favourite starter.

For once, I have a clear favorite: Aron/Lairon/Aggron! Well, not so much lairon, but it's alright. Aron's my kind of adorable, and I like aggron for its coolness and... hmm, I don't know. I guess I tend to like the zigzag mouth design?

Not enough love for Aron...

After a long week of voting, it's just the second time in this tournament that we've ended in a tie! Under the rules of the tournament, it looks like I'll be making the tie-breaking vote to determine the winner. So- the Pokemon that managed to steal an extra vote to be named your favorite Steel-type Pokemon are...

Spoiler:

Thanks again to all who voted! Our next round of voting will be up later this afternoon, as we make our way to the most populous type- Water! There'll be a few Pokemon that won't make the cut due to the sheer number of them, but I'll do my best to try and pick the top 24 families for you to vote on. See you all there!
