Why do so many people not like Legendary Pokémon? many refuse to use them in battle and/or say they aren't as good as the other Pokémon! I like Legendary Pokémon the best!!! their design is so awesome and added bonus, they're strong, but why do so many people hate them??

I dislike the legendaries that have no actual legend about them, or are in stupidly obvious places (IE waiting in a cave where 20 other trainers are waiting to battle you).

Many are also either overdesigned.

Finally, the premise is just... flawed. I mean, there are legendaries that are rumoured to do huge, cataclysmic stuff and yet a rookie trainer can catch them? ;)

On the notion of the premise, I think it has always been inferred that the player character is special and not just any other rookie. It also seems to be the case that legendaries typically don't show up until the gym leaders have been defeated, meaning that you are capable of handling a diverse number of combat situations.
In Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire you're not even able to catch Rayquaza until after defeating the Pokemon League which means that you truly are one of the best trainers out there.

I like legendary Pokémon and have used them, but I prefer not too. It has a little bit to do with making the game too easy, but mostly because it's not a unique team and you might not even like the legendaries look. What I CANNOT STAND is when people use legendary Pokémon simply because they are legendary. Generation 7 doesn't even exist yet I'm sure people are planning to fill their team with whatever legendaries it has to offer regardless of looks, type, or power.
I don't use "uber" Pokémon, I don't calculate stat values, I don't use cheating devices, I don't breed my way to perfection, and I don't care about natures. I catch my Pokemon the way they are, and treat them like individuals instead of brainless drones. If you use this philosophy, copy & paste this into your signature.

What an odd thread title. "Race" isn't a term you'd associate with non-humans.

That being said, it depends on what kind of legendary it is. I don't like the Creation trio that much, but Lugia is my favorite legendary, perhaps even my all time favorite Pokemon.

I believe the term is actually specist when it comes to animals rather than racist.

Anyway, I stopped using them at some point since they were much more powerful than your average Pokemon, taking away some of the difficulty of the game. It also doesn't help that legendary doesn't quite have the same meaning as when there were only 5 of them, as I think were around or over 50 different legendary Pokemon at this point. All that said, I still like quite a few legendaries, I just don't plan on battling with any of them.

The only thing that comes to mind (I'm sure it might apply to a few trainers as well). First thing is that the legendaries are caught so late in the game and are too high leveled. By that time I'm too attached to my team, as we gone through many good and bad times, so much training too much bonding with them, it would be too hard getting rid of one for a legendary. To me replacing an attached Pokemon with another one just wouldn't feel the same.

[this one applies mostly to me] None of the lengendary are based on Pokemon I actually used, most of my team consists of Pokemon I like by their design - none of the legendary fit this category.

I wouldn't mind using legendary temporarily but I won't keep it permanently.

I don't think anyone would personally hate any legendary Pokémon, to be honest (well, unless there's a good reason to, of course!). There are some legendaries that many people will refuse to use on their team though, as they are generally banned from battling. These Pokémon have been banned because they're too overpowered, and they give an unfair advantage to those who utilize them. Not all legendaries are banned, though. There are quite a few legendaries out there whose strengths are equal to those of common Pokémon, such as Shaymin, Rotom, Jirachi, and Suicune—these are the type of legendaries that are not banned. You're free to use these Pokémon whenever you please, and nobody would complain.

As for me, I rarely use any legendary Pokémon, regardless if they're banned or not. The only legends that you'll ever see me using are Suicune, Zapdos, and Cresselia, since I'm able to handle them pretty well. I also like using Jirachi on occasion. This Pokémon has access to Iron Head, and thanks to its Serene Grace ability, it can take full advantage of Iron Head's flinching effect and block your opponent from attacking you. d:

I mostly think legendaries are too common and boring to use :] Having a team of non-legendary, preferably even a bit odd pokémon makes things much more interesting and makes your team more unique, imo. But one legendary on my team isn't a problem, if I can relate to it in some way and don't have it there just as a powerhouse. I tend to put backgrounds stories onto my captures in games xD

As for other media, using legendary pokémon in fanfiction is a bit overdone so I'm not a big fan of that... Same with RPing, unless there's a proper story and reason for why the legendaries appear.

I guess the reason why people tend to avoid legendaries is because they're either ugly or overpowered. Not all of them are like that, in my opinion. In stories or roleplays, I don't think they should be owned by trainers, they should be encountered like in the Anime, but in the games, you can catch them and use them in your team whenever, in which I try to stay away from with the exception of the Kanto games...where I catch Articuno. :P
