So in case you didn't already know, the pokéradar makes a return post-game. I never understood how to use it in the 4th gen and I still don't really get it :/
So,
1. What are your thoughts on the return of this item?
and
2. Feel free to help me out cause I wanna get me some shinies :)

Whoa REALLY- 8D
Does that mean chaining returns with it?
Cause if it does... time to chain me some shinies >w<

Anyway, if you want to chain, better pack up TONS (and by tons, I mean hundreds) of repels. Whenever a grass rustles, pick the farthest one. Repeat all steps until you reach a chain of 40 (40 ko'ed Pokes). After reaching 40, just keep running around without touching the rustling grass until you find a patch that sparkles.

Hope that helps~ ^_^

As shiny Gardevoir has pointed out, use repels to stop wild pokes from breaking your chain!

That makes no sense. Is your party leader at a high enough evel??

For Gen 4 there was a complicated set of rules to get full chains including how the grass shook (Only go on matching patches) and not taking patches next to the edge of the grass. Depending on where you were, it often resulted in lots of Radar use to skip ones you weren't sure about.

Even then it is not guaranteed.

If you want to know the most efficient way to successfully chain for shinies I would follow the guide on this website smogon.com/ingame/guides/chaining.

It is a little outdated because it is for DPPt, but it is thought that X and Y are following the same basic rules for chaining.

Some of this guide isn't all that helpful, so here is a list of the most important things you should look at:

Chaining Basics
Chaining Supplies (If you don't already know what you should have)
The Grid
Patch Formations
Chaining Strategy
Review: List of Ways to Break Your Chain (If you are new to chaining)

I hope this helps

Normal repels no longer keep pokemon away completely. You have to have super or max.

The problem I am having is I can't get a pokemon to show up in the shaking areas when I use the Radar. I know the one that hardly shakes, does not have a pokemon, but even the other dont have one.

Can someone explain to me how to use it in the right way? Because the pokeradar just find to me a normal random pokemons.
You have to chain (KO) 40 of the same Pokemon consecutively, without leaving the visual area.

Read the guides linked above... I'm not sure the rules are the same, as I myself am having some difficulty, but they should reveal some valuable insight.

(Wow... My syntax is odd this morning...)

A friend of mine managed to hit a chain of 40 and get a shiny, and he had the following observations:
- 4-space rule doesn't seem to apply; you just need to enter a bush that shakes identically to the one you first stepped into
- Edges may be safe (interesting if so, and would explain why there aren't so many large patches of grass then)
- Bushes that rustle a tiny amount will kill the chain if stepped on

Hope that helps you guys. I'll be trying it out myself, but I won't beat the game anytime soon. =/

I can't get past 10 or so. I'm having difficulty understanding the rules - some time they seem to apply but other times it doesn't seem to matter (for instance, going in to the piece of grass next to you instead of 4+ away).

So confused. It needs more ingame explanation ;-;

I agree that the 4-space rule no longer seems to exist. Edges are safe, too, but you're much more likely to get zero shakes and break your chain. I was able to get a shiny Skiddo a few days ago, but nothing since. There are almost no good spots for chaining. :/

Patience really helps. If you're unsure about your shakes, avoid them and try again. Sometimes I'd have to reset more than 10 times in a row.

I still haven't gotten past 1 yet lol. As I have said before, I use the Pokeradar, but when I move into the shaking grass, nothing pops up like it did in 4th Gen, though i didn't chain for shinies then.

Is there something I am doing wrong? Shouldn't a pokemon pop up right when you step on a bush that shakes?

i cant get past like 6 chains. this is so frustrating im one of the most impatient people you will ever meet but no matter how mad i get i cant stop. but this is just really hard. i try to go into the ones that look identical to me but then a different one pops up

and 40 chains seems to be too much for a little fella like me :(

If you're looking at old guides, ignore the stuff about 4 squares away, as that no longer applies from observations by other people. So you can go into squares next to you, as long as they shake the same way as the first patch you walked in.

This actually explains a lot. Might have to give it another go. Maybe start off simple with Static Dedenne.
