Okay, so, I've been thinking about this for a little while. Speaking as an American, I can say that our country is incredibly large and diverse. The only region we have that's based on the US, though, is based on only one small portion: the New York metropolitan area. However, I can probably think of three additional regions of the US that would make for interesting Pokémon regions. The state of California, for example, with its multiple large cities, and diverse climate could be an optimal setting for a Pokémon game. So, I have to wonder, will the Pokémon franchise ever revisit the States? Or do they think that New York just covers it when it comes to America?

Tbh, I'm not sure why they take regions such as America or France, or even Japan to base the games off of. It's Pokemon, they have the liberty to make the towns and cities as creative as they want. I mean sure taking something like the skyscrapers and incorporating that into the city is fine, but making the entire region look like a country or using the Eiffel Tower as a gym? It baffles me.

I get your complaint, but honestly, since when is anything completely original. Even the Pokémon are based, however loosely, on real-world animals, mythical beasts, and objects. Look no further than Magnemite, Trubbish, and the like to support that theory. And designing an entire region is more complex than designing a new batch of Pokémon. Therefore, its kind of understandable that they look to real-life places for inspiration to design these regions. Plus, it does give each region and each generation a level of symbolic importance, knowing that it has a real-world counterpart.

I agree with you, Superfox. I think they've wanted to more and more make the pokémon world seem like an alternate universe from our own world, especially since they stepped outside of Japan. What New York and France might have looked like if pokémon were real, that's quite cool to think about.

Sure, North America has a lot more to show that could make for interesting regions. But I'd rather they continued through Africa or Asia or maybe more in Europe's shifting environments, because it's more fun to see more widespread places than to make all Americans happy seeing their home area turned into a pokémon game ;) I actually think Unova might be it for the US, yes.

I'm so rooting for a region based on Australia or Africa next. There are many already existing pokémon that would do well in Africa-region, and there are plenty of opportunities to make new species based on Australian wildlife. Plus, the great environments in 3D... Imagine that!

I think if they ever make another region based on America, it will be a place that is highly popular for tourists. LA or Miami. Sadly, I doubt any more interesting places in America will make it as Pokemon regions. I'm honestly hoping they do something based off of Alaska or a more snowy area. Scandinavian maybe. But I doubt it will happen.

Well, I can't rule out a possibility that Gen. 7 may take place in Alaska. It's such a wonderful shape with several surf areas for our West Coast. It looks like an m shape.

If it wasn't America, I guess it will be based on North Korea or somewhere else with two coasts.
